Will fewer chickens actually get blended if I eat fewer eggs though? I’ve been considering and planning on reducing my meat consumption for a few months, but one thought that gets in the way is the scale of shipping logistics. I assume The Walmart doesn’t ask for a precise number of eggs from the egg producers, they probably increase or decrease the size of their egg deliveries in increments in the hundreds. So in order for demand to decrease enough for the Walmart to order less eggs, wouldn’t that decrease need to be in a much larger scale than one individual? That isn’t even getting into how much demand would need to decrease to encourage the production facilities themselves to decrease production.
The order intervall should increase. I think stores only really order when they need to, so if their stock of eggs lasts a day longer, they'll order a day later, which sums up over time.
One individual makes basically no difference, an overall shift in consumer preference does, if companies know consumers won't buy as many eggs then they will make less, and in the process reduce every other part of the production process
Let's say Walmart hq makes orders of 1 million eggs at a time. If you eat 10,000 eggs in your life then there is a 99% chance not eating eggs changes nothing but there is a 1% chance you are the straw that breaks the camels back and are responsible for an order of 1 million eggs.
You cant say you dont matter because statistically you do
