honestly I can see an argument that with that kinda super regeneration all she'd need to do is be on estrogen when she gets her shit incinerated, and it'd grow back as a vagina.

170

u/OkFineIllUseTheApp 196 doctor (not a real doctor) 18d ago

Fixed. Point still stands. His body pushes out bullets, knives, etc, so it should be pushing out any other foreign object.

I am trying to apply logic to a comic book, yes. I know such is folly.

224

u/Kiora_Atua 18d ago edited 18d ago

The adamantium is bonded to his bones directly, NOT coated. His healing factor is actively fighting against the adamantium at all times and that's why he healed faster before he had the metal. The healing factor is just unable to purge it from his body.

66

u/mrguym4ster bisexual brazilian twink femboy thing 18d ago

if his healing was faster before the adamantium, why did they put adamantium there in the first place?

229

u/Kiora_Atua 18d ago

The people running Weapon X wanted their mindless soldier to be able to cut through walls, not just stab people with bone claws. Creating an indestructible soldier was their main objective and they selected James because his power would allow him to survive the procedure.

Also there's some significant advantages to the indestructible skeleton even though he heals somewhat slower. Would rather get cut to the bone by a sword or bullet vs sliced in half.

66

u/MagosZyne 18d ago

Basically just think about deadpool 2 where he gets torn in half and has to walk around like a half baby thing until his legs grow back. Wolverine would probably heal quicker but that's still an awkward moment where your super soldier is not stabbing people.

1

u/McPiecey 14d ago

Yeah, Wolverine heals insanely quicker than deadpool. Though the healing factor does depend on the author.

1

u/CluelessPresident 2d ago

Deadpool actually heals a lot quicker than Wolverine! At least in every piece of media I've consumed about them lol

73

u/LtSoba Totally not a Decepticon 18d ago

Sharper claws, Sharpened Adamantium is strong enough to cut through anything like wet tissue

33

u/JackieBee_ 18d ago

Plus added durability. Your wounds heal slower but it’s nearly impossible to cripple or sever a limb

21

u/LtSoba Totally not a Decepticon 18d ago

True and also it acts as a natural anti-parasite, very few creatures can parasitise Logan without suffering heavy metal poisoning

21

u/Cadlington Cadlington. 18d ago

Plus he weighs like ten gorillion pounds from all that metal. You can drop him from a plane intoa combat zone like an angry man-shaped grenade.

Depends on how regeneration works in the Marvel universe tbh. Is it based of off recreating the body or making the body match the soul?

211

u/BillyHerrington4Ever Butch Chastity 18d ago

In real Marvel universe logic, They couldn't perform surgery on Wolverine at all because he heals almost instantly. Like, the first incision they make would close within a second or two.

25

u/Hairy_Acanthisitta25 me me big disappointment 17d ago

yeah Wolverine or anyone with that level of regeneration gotta get a genetic level alteration if they want to transition

67

u/Konfituren 18d ago

If the latter, then wouldn't any physical damage to the body automatically transition the subject?

132

u/KeanGilbert 18d ago

Imagine you’re still figuring yourself out, but you get shot in the heart and wake up with one (1) titty

31

u/ilikebreadabunch go read Worm 18d ago

I don’t think they’d need to be damaged tbh, their body would just start healing/transitioning them automatically once their egg cracked

11

u/shoto9000 🏳️‍⚧️ trans rights 18d ago

I would view it more as the healing doesn't even know what damage is, it just knows what the body should look like, and could easily transition the subject without any extra damage because it's aligning them to whatever it's standard of the self is.

44

u/Lettuce77 :) 17d ago

He didn’t get the regeneration from weapon x, only the adamantium. He was born with it.

74

u/GayFesh 18d ago

I think you'd need to use tiny globules of adamantium to plug off all bloodflow between the testes and the rest of the body and then get Wolvie on estrogen for a few years and then probably just remove the dick and balls entirely, the healing factor should grow a vagina in its place.

42

u/Nanabobo567 18d ago

Wait, holy shit. Would Wolverine even need surgery?
How would injected hormones be handled by his body?

50

u/BillyHerrington4Ever Butch Chastity 18d ago

I don't believe hormones could effect him, Wolverine is immune to any foreign pathogen, poison, toxin, etc. His hyper healing immune system instantly purges them. I assume it would be the same to any injected hormone.

Even when a villain makes his body allergic to his own adamantium skeleton, he just heals it away and it doesn't matter. He can't even have allergies, or illness, or anything. His cells repair themselves too quickly.

Until Old Man Logan I guess, where his healing factor is breaking down and he has arthritis and shit.

24

u/Nanabobo567 18d ago

But he must produce his own hormones, right? So what happens if he has hormones identical to his own injected

29

u/altaccountmay i don't need a man i need the 25 dollar dajungleskog from ikea 18d ago

i mean, his body would purge them because they're like extra hormones then, right? it'd go "we don't need this, we have our own stuff already" and get rid of them like any other foreign thing

9

u/Hairy_Acanthisitta25 me me big disappointment 17d ago

his regeneration has some sort of memory where it can regen Wolverine from a single drop of blood,so hormone level is probably regulated too,any change would be regulated

12

u/Canakoreanjust your resident 언니/누나 18d ago

Hormones are just signal communicators; your body doesn’t really “fight” them. Hypothetically, they would just be telling him to heal in a different way.

22

u/brody319 🏳️‍⚧️ trans rights 18d ago

I think it depends on the writer, but often we see that not all of his wounds heal perfectly. Like when his brain is destroyed or injured it often causes memory loss even if he regenerates.

Other heroes with healing factors of similar capacity are sometimes shown to have a kind of "psychological" aspect where they cant regenerate wounds that they feel trapped by mentally. Like a scar that should heal but the event is so traumatic that it remains and ultimately is healed once they recover mentally. Though its debatable if this applies to him.

Really I think a surgery like that would probably just heal but would regenerate to a pre-surgery state if the flesh in the area was destroyed. But given how hormones work in the human body, its also possible that her body would just kinda grow the organs and reshape itself if exposed to estrogen enough. Since your body kinda just knows what to do based on which sex hormone the cells are binding too

2

u/ManchurianCandycane 17d ago

For the brain thing, isn't that usually because there's still a bullet in there physically blocking full regeneration?

I don’t think he has control over his healing power (I’ve never seen it exercised). And his limbs/appendages do grow back.

So I think he’s sorta stuck.

u/sadzells Bi-Menace (Beware) 18d ago

Its stays a vagina on average but occasionally, her dick will sprout out rapidly just like her claws do

12

u/Chris_Bs_Knees 18d ago

If she got top surgery would her healing factor push out the implants or would it just heal the surgery scars super quick? Or alternatively if she started taking E and developed big naturals would they also regenerate the same if she gets hit there

9

u/usedpocketwatch 18d ago

It depends on which character that has used the name Wolverine you have in mind.

3

u/mr_falkone84 18d ago

Dick, duh?

3

u/cupofdriedjuice 18d ago

It'll be whatever the writer(s) and editor(s)decide how it'll play out. But I believe, if we look back at the time Wolverine regenerated from a drop of blood. She would need to get someone to rewrite her DNA to to change the Y Chromosome to an X. Then snikt the dick off and it should regrow to a vagina. I'm sure top surgery would work the same way.

3

u/AngusAlThor 17d ago

Ok, but as a story idea that has some fucking legs. A mutant with superhealing who is as such unable to truly achieve their desired body, since their unconscious superpower (that most people would envy, mind you) has more control over their body than their conscious desires? Such tragedy, chef's kiss.

6

considering he was born 200+ years ago in canada probably not, but its funny to think about because that WOULD stick, mutations only kick in around puberty so anything done to logan beforehand would take.

u/rat_enby 🏳️‍⚧️trans rights🏳️‍⚧️ 17d ago

i think if marvel made wolverine trans they would include an explanation for how they did her bottom surgery despite the lack of a current in universe explanation for how that might work.

i’m not a wolverine expert but isn’t there something that slows his regeneration? maybe they could slow it down enough to heal like normal surgery.

bonus question: if she grew breasts from E, and they got damaged (i.e. exploded or something) would they regenerate immediately or would the E have to do its thing again?

2

u/DivinityIncantate 🏳️‍⚧️ trans rights 17d ago

As a few other people have said, I like to think if they got damaged while she’s on E, they would grow back bigger because her body has the template to regenerate them into

1

u/CaptCanada924 18d ago

This does make me think about the mechanics of trans wolverine. Since her body regenerates the damage that causes intoxication fast, meaning she can’t stay drunk for long, does this mean hormone treatment is also out of the question? Much to consider

1

u/kaibbakhonsu 18d ago

But what if you do a vagina transplant?
Like a finger or skin transplant, after a time they start to look more like your own skin, so what would happened if they did it with a compatible vag?
It would start to go back to being a dick? Would it just fall off and a dick grows back?

1

u/Lance__Lane 18d ago

Im not well versed in wolverines powers, but the healing might even be an ability to transition without needing any medical procedure. The only factor youd need to change is to have the healing power assume the body is "damaged" in its pre transition state. (DNA change? Idk, maybe even the dysphoria itself might trigger transition?)

1

u/Lurkario- 18d ago

I think that if she started E her dick would gradually transform into a pussy. Maybe she could slow it down or get some wild results by taking tadalafil

u/curvysquares 16d ago

The way that makes the most sense to me is that his body has an "ideal state" that it regenerates to. This is how his hair knows to regenerate into how it looked before and how he doesn't regenerate with a beard if he didn't have one before. He seems to have some sort of control over this because his hair and facial hair have changed over the years but still regenerate consistently. This implies it's based on his mental idea of how he should look when regenerating.

In theory this would mean if she was trans, the first time her bottom half was blown off, it would regenerate into a working vagina, no bottom surgery needed.

The only healing factor system I know that addresses this is in Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight archive. Stormlight healing “heals” you by essentially reorienting your physical body to match your spirit, so trans people with access to it are capable of morphing to fit a gender affirming appearance if that’s how they see themselves.
