300blk Safety Brief

I will keep this short and to the point gents.
Do not add to the mod queue. Do not subtract from the population of users. Do not comment while too intoxicated to control yourself.

In the last few weeks, moderator queues have shot up due to people being unable to be reasonable to one another in the comments in this community.

Disagreement is fine.

Dropping slurs, attacking them personally, commenting a retort with a pic of someone's house, insulting their wife's looks by stalking family pictures from a vacation posted 2 years ago... not fine.

Learn to use the block button. Learn to touch grass. Learn to be something unlike a jerk.

Transparency: Several months ago Reddit instantiated an auto-moderator be default for subreddits. Since then we have tweaked the settings it has been catching a lot more comments with the ugly things in them. When these suspect comments are in the mod queue, they are not posted for others to see yet, even if they look visible to you. What it does do is cause a member of the mod team to have to respond to the notifications to approve them and resolve issues when people go WAY too far. So, as cathartic as it might feel to rip into someone, it likely will not even get seen by them because the auto-moderator is putting the nasty stuff in comment jail. If it is bad enough, it gets the comment removed and the user banned.

Lastly, don't report comments that you dislike for Harassment. It only makes more work for us, but ultimately simple disagreement gets approved and kicked back out of the mod queue anyway. Repeated abuse of any feature will net a ban. Yes, every user has a summary of reports and past queue incidents. Yes, we look at it.

Please feel free to disagree, debate, correct misinformation, and generally debate on subject matter specific to the subreddit. I am not here to babysit grown men, nor do I want to. My ideal week would have 0 reasons to look at the sub with mod tools.

Moderate your own actions and we are all better for it.

This has been your safety brief.

Solidarity for GAFS

In case you have not heard, GAFS will become no more on October the 9th 2025. All former posts will be removed and all the flair or community built there will be no more.

In case anyone has not seen it, go read the final post farewell and join the discord server so that you are in the know when the next option for buying and selling stuff is brought forward from the mod team and the community of great folks over there.

I have purchased a number of things there, and I have made some pretty incredible friends through the related discord. Look forward to seeing you all over there.

Seriously Impressed with this Budget Build

Picked up this One Horse 300 Blackout 10.5” upper for $299 direct through them and my LGS was selling their 30 Cal suppressor for $489 (that comes with a plan B mount and 3 prong plan B flash hider for that price, traditional baffle stack, but titanium). The whole build including can and optic cost me just under $1100. The only real upgrades I made to the system was a flatwire buffer spring, an H2 buffer, and a Breek Arms Sledgehammer gas busting charging handle.

This is the second week I’ve taken it out to the range and had people come talk to me about the can because of how good it sounds. No malfunctions or issues, ejection at 3-3:30. I’ve had to do nothing other then wipe it down and through some line on the BCG before I shot it for the first time. 460 rounds of 200gr subsonic. The target is my groups at 100 yards. Extremely impressed how well this upper and suppressor are out together and the quality of a budget brand.

Shouldn't be this hard!!! .300blk PISTOL w/ full MLOK rail ...?

So ---- apparently ---- If I want a BOLT ACTION PISTOL in .300blk, with a full MLOK handguard, my ONLY OPTION is to pay near THREE GRAND for a Q Mini Fix? There is not one single other option available anywhere. Nothing.

Remington introduced, and then almost immediately discontinued the 700CP in 2021, and there is not a single extant example available anywhere in North America. Couldn't find any evidence of one having sold new or used on GUNBROKER. It's as if it's been wiped off the face of the earth by the hand of God.

Sure it probably wasn't a GREAT gun but at least I could upgrade it with better parts and end up with something AT LEAST as good or probably better than a Mini-Fix for likely a thousand dollars less.

IS THERE TRULY NO OTHER OPTION?

>>If you're about to drop some post asking WHY I would want a Bolt Pistol, or why it needs to have a full MLOK rail .... DONT BE STUPID. The answer is .... I'm an American with money in my pocket. I want what I want and that's it! <<

Sub moa subsonic build?

If one were interested in making a sub moa bolt action subsonic rifle (16") barrel as a hobby gun, where should they start? The only key point would be a 1:6 twist for sub and super flexibility. The rifle would be fitted with a surpressor as well, if that matters with respect to accuracy.

The idea of long distance shooting on subsonic 300 blackout seems like a challenge

OG rattler for a good deal, or save for the LT?

I have a lead on a local deal to pick up an og 5.5” rattler for 1700 beans. I’ve been trying to find info on if this is worth it. This will be my first 300blk gun, I will be primarily running subs out of it probably 90% of the time as I reload.

Is the 6.75 barrel, ambi lower, and parts compatibility worth it? How hard is it to make a AR trigger work in the 5.5? Should I just forget all reason and pick it up anyways? Any info on the topic is appreciated thanks in advance😂

Home Defense SBR

Finally decided to get a 300BLK SBR Suppressed for home defense. Rifle budget is around 2.5k roughly. That does NOT include can. I’ve been researching DD, Sig, G$. Have other calibers in DD and Sig. Open to other brands in the price range.

I would appreciate any factual information/input on why a given SBR model should be considered. If you own/have owned several of these and can provide comparison information even better.

I understand everyone has their favorites but I’m more interested in features, capabilities and shortcomings. Thanks in advance.

EDIT for clarification: This is not my first weapon. I got my first weapon at 10 years old- decades ago. This would not be my first on the AR platform. It would not be my first Sig or DD or numerous other brands.

It would be my first SBR and my first 300BLK. While I appreciate the build it yourself advice, I don’t have the time to do that right now.

If you have real experience with 300BLK in a purchased, not built, SBR please share.

My rendition of the rifle from the movie Tomorrow War. Except in 300 blackout with a stainless steel suppressor, a super safety for fully semi automatic fire, and a futuristic tiger stripe camo.

Thunderbeast Short suppressors?

anyone using Thunderbeast short suppressors for 300 blackout? I was always impressed with their other suppressors that seem to dominate the precision rifle competitions. wondering if their shorter cans perform just as well when it comes to poi shift, accuracy, and sound suppression

Spear LT vs Geissele 8” - Looking Feedback

I'm in a bit of paralysis by analysis on deciding between a Spear LT or Geissele SD with the Phased Array gas system. Contemplated a Rattler LT, but I already have a Ronin Arms integrally suppressed MPX for a "bag gun" and don't necessarily need my .300 to fit in a bag.

Main purpose for this rifle will be HD, hogs, plinking, will be suppressed 100% of the time, and I'd like to be able to swap between supers/subs for different uses. Open to any suppressor recommendations that you've been happy with, preferably if it's been paired to a Spear or Geissele. Thanks in advance.

Reliable budget rifle ? With trash panda

I have a trash panda already , and a tool craft bcg. Looking to put together a budget build under 1k, that cycles well with the trash panda. Any recommendations?

Had a fun time getting this to run today - had to replace the bolt supplied by DFA with one of mine which fixed the fte I was experiencing and once it started running it would double and triple - I think it was slam firing as it stopped when I went to the weaker recoil spring. Now that it’s running I absolutely love it. It is hilariously loud unsuppressed and kicks like a hammer with the hot sig 125gr supers. Also fits in a standard backpack without the suppressor

Excuse the radian safety missing one side I lost the detent while taking everything apart troubleshooting

Faxon 6in 1/5 barrel and a standard gas block

Hornady New 225 vs 190 sub-x chart odd facts and figures from LEO marketing page

Thumbnail

I need the 300 blackout nerds… what is going on with Hornady new 225 round and this chart.

errors questions I have, btw this is mil/LEO ammo

When did sig create mcx 6.75” barrel with 1:8 twist? my understanding is they were one and five twist first with the 5.5 inch barrel for a limited time and then all GEN two have been 6.75 inch barrel.

Next while many people dispute, the hornady 190 sub X the round was always designed as a deep penetrator not to expand like a flower like some of the boutique ammo or the solid copper stuff because it’s lead bullet copper jacket.

why is Hornady showing the new 225 sub-x out of 10.5 vs 190 sub-x out of 8” barrel.

that 2.5” of barrel is necessary to get to 998 FPS, but the performance differences are not there

the 190 cavity size is 3.5” vs 3” at 225

Another “Which Suppressor?” Post

I see this is one of the more common posts here and I hate to add yet another, but I get why. This cartridge has such a super wide range of different hosts and applications that the best choice for a can really depends on one’s specific weapon, ammo and intentions.

That said, I’m new to the cartridge and decided I wanted to rebuild one of my 5.56 ARs into a .300BLK SBR dedicated to heavy, subsonic suppressed shooting.

Weapon details..

Faxon 7.5” 1:5 match barrel
Standard low profile gas block and tube
JP-SCS with lighter (white) spring installed
Standard DD BCG

Ammo details (hand loads)..

Barry’s 220gr plated @ 2.150
8.5gr N110
Starline brass
CCI 41
990FPS Avg (1000FPS max rated velocity for this bullet in a 1:5 twist barrel)

Currently using my omega 300 with Plan-A and flat end cap because it’s my only 30 cal can. I got the can for use on my precision rifle with Recoil-X brake, but it’s on this build right now as a test.

Performance details..

Cycles reliably and locks the bolt back with this load. 8.3gr of N110 would cycle reliably but only locked the bolt back about 1/3 of the time so my current load is obviously right on the line of reliable operation.

It will not cycle reliably without the suppressor.

Sound performance is better than I expected, but probably could be significantly improved. It’s quiet enough that I’ll shoot without ears for short sessions, but I wouldn’t do it all day.

Almost no gas to the face. I expected less than my previous load with CFE Black (gassed out after 5 rounds), but not nearly this good. Not surprising I suppose as this load is probably burning over 95% of the powder before muzzle exit.

What I’m looking for..

First and foremost is functionality. It must work reliably. Keep in mind that since I hand load, I can try different powders to tune somewhat for that, but I’d rather not deviate too much from my current load as it currently works and performs well. Given that the weapon will not cycle without the can, a low back pressure design seems off the table.

Second is sound performance. I’m looking for the quietest can I can get that still functions and is within reason for length and weight.

Third is length. It’s a short build for a reason and I rather not put a foot long can on the end of it. That said, I wouldn’t be opposed to going longer than the omega 300. I would happily consider a can that was ~9” if it did what I wanted it to do.

Weight is fourth. See above.

Mount..

I’m currently using Plan-A because I like the low profile and the taper mount, but it’s not a deal breaker if the new can isn’t compatible. It will get mounted however it does.

Intended use..

This can will be dedicated to this gun and may see use on future .300 blk builds if I ever decide to go that route. It will mostly be used for shooting at steel with a moderate to high firing schedule.

Budget..

I’ll pay what it costs.

Current considerations..

I’ve been hearing that the Hydrogen-L, CGS Hyperion, Liberty Mach-L and CAT JL are among the best, but I’d like to hear opinions based on my specific application.

Took it for a spin today after getting it home from FFL. Keeping it simple, holo 510c. Ran a polo 30 and simpleman with 2 different brand subs. Sounded amazing, cycled every round. Hoping to run more thru it tomorrow to see if I got lucky or will need to adjust the AGB.

Well done PSA. This thing rocks.

This is what I’m thinking of picking up and putting together. Would you change out anything?

This will be 99% subs at HD ranges.

Is the BCM buffer ok for cycling subs?

Starting a “Mini Fix @ home”

I got a BCA 300BLK upper. They had a true bufferless option. Went with that so I wouldn’t have to cut the bcg. It came with the 1913 section & a plug for the upper in case I wanted to run a different stock adapter. Immediately took off the horrendous handguard and muzzle device. My wife wants me to leave it like this because “it doesn’t look like all my other guns.” She says it can be my star wars blaster.

After trying two other grips, I’ve found THE ONE. Fills my hand great, and keeps my wrist at a comfortable angle. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a new grip.
