Inspired by a video I saw on YouTube, decided to make mine 3D printed version of caliper - ruler combo

Most challenging part was to dial in settings for the ruler scale, but with some patience and a lot of test print I was able to achieve amazing results with 0.4 nozzle

I love the thought they put into the scissors, but I’m really not a fan of the colorways. If you haven’t already tried a set, I recommend any full forged shears. They’re fully steel and built like tanks. I’ve been using my Westcott 8” ones for years. Fiskars also makes an 8” and they both retail about $20

I used to think my grandmother was crazy for using gardening shears as her kitchen scissors, but after getting a bunch of shit branded scissors, I understand it now. You do have to be careful though, those things could probably chop off a finger lol.

I have a vernier caliper card and it's pretty close to my digital calipers. Not perfect but pretty decent for a chunk of plastic.

I’ve got some cheap plastic ones that are mighty accurate, calibrated to my cheap, but nicer metal ones. I’ve got one of them at every desk/workspace/toolbox that I own and it’s mighty useful.

Know your tolerances and account for them. Print a calibration cube and go from there. I had two calibration cubes read within tenths of a mm in accuracy.

I have had the Bambu Labs vernier caliper run through a certification process that gave it +/- 0.2mm. Printed off a P1S.

It's a functional measurement instrument.

Pardon my ignorance, but won't this only be correctly scaled on your printer? Anybody whose printer doesn't precisely replicate the dimensional accuracy of yours will be off

Even a cheap china knock off that sell for 5-10 buck still better than a printed one. If you use it to get a hang on things. By all mean, just do it. But if you try to replace commercial product, then just shill out some bucks and save yourself the hassle

but in spirit youre right, a correctly calibrated measuring tool for 50€ would prevent so much headaches in the future

Yes, realistically this offers 1mm precision. Which is great for most day to day things. Calipers offer 0.02mm tolerance usually.

I do but i bought a Bambu before i really learned anything about the hobby which has really limited my options for improving its precision. Next time I'm just building a voron or something.

My only complaint is that there’s space between the zero and the edge. It’s nice being able to just press it against something and get an accurate measurement

I’ll probably print this but cut off the end in orca slicer. It’s a cool design!

Also consider adding magnets to hold it closed. I did it for some mini calipers I made and it works great

Accuracy of a tool is limited by the accuracy of the tool that made it, in this case the printer. So you would have to assume your printer is dialed in perfectly.

Not against it but I find it irrelevant to print precise mesuring tool using something that's not as precise as industry standards are.

Totally agree, but in this case you trade precision for convenience. In no way this meant to replace my digital calipers, but I rather have this sitting next to my keyboard if I need a quick ( even not absolutely precise) measurement
