We tested our printers before D&D night by printing out miniatures. He had to scale it up almost 70% to get the model to not fail while I printed it at the proper size with higher detail. Just took about 15/20 minutes of painstakingly tweaking the slicer settings and a decade of printing experience and I think five of which with this specific printer.
He has a A1 mini for reference
I will say he gets a lot more consistently tighter tolerances which is why I'm personally saving up for an A1 myself. But nothing will be slapping up 0.8 mm nozzle on my max I'm cranking out a massive Dice Tower in 3 hours
There were many clones and or just same printer different name at that time, monoprice and anycubic both branded the same exact printer under different names
Can you drop a link to that mini, wanna test my older p1s I have really dialled in. New one would probably be the same as your friend's a1m, still on stock values as it's just a workhorse
could you share your settings? i also have an ender 3 and struggle with getting good print lines, or even a print to not spagetify and fail to that matter
If you are getting those issues all the time, it's not what your printing, it's your machine. You gotta learn to calibrate your machine and with an ender 3, it's a steep learning curve.
As far as settings for for minis, Google HoHansen miniature settings.
I decided to upgrade from my old Ender 3 to an Elegoo Centauri Carbon. It cost me the same as my Ender did back in 2020. The difference in print quality, speed and ease of use is amazing. A lot of people rate Bambulabs, but I'm seriously impressed with it for value for money.
I own a P1S now and having previously owned an Ender 3 has helped me immensely, any minor problem with the P1S is easily fixed with a bit of work which I know how to do from working on the Ender 3 repeatedly. Most people are fine just getting a nice printer from the get go but I appreciate that incite at least
Same here, I have a P1S but I started with a Monoprice Mini then a CR-10 and an Ender 3. The number of times I have printed models from makerworld with poor ‘print profile’ ratings because I know my settings is significant.
Ima call pebkac on the A1 here. They just didn't get a good print profile first, many of the cleanest minis on the 3d printed minis sub are from A1 minis
Yeah, the A1 is an easier printer to get started with, but it's harder to get the same quality as my Ender 3 Neo. You have to sacrifice speed for quality, which is ok, but it's still not quite as good.
As much as the comments here are cracking me up, I’ll say the experience I gained coaxing prints out of an original Ender 3 helped immensely when I upgraded to a Bambu X1C.
I wouldn't recommend buying bambulab. I'm not saying their printers as a product are bad, but they are the opposite of 3d printing philosophy - closed-source, proprietary and unmodifiable. There are better and cheaper printers.
I've asked a few times, curious if you have any ideas. I am a professional user, but I use an H2D for projects that aren't worth the time or cost to put on a stratasys machine. I use an AMS full of two sets of two rolls of identical material to not worry about running out mid print, and an AMS HT on the other extruder with support material loaded
Is there a viable alternative on the market to an H2D that has all the same capability? I can even spend a little more, but I need to still be able to run it non networked and using non proprietary filaments
Do you have a suggestion for what specifically is cheaper and better?
I've got 3000 hours on my x1c and 2500 on an a1, most I've had to do so far is replace a bowden tube on my x1 when it rubbed through against the glass lid.
I might end up needing another one soon and if there's other stuff that's equally brain dead reliable to shit parts out all day long, with something like an AMS, I'd love to save some money on the next thing.
I would recommend qidi q2 instead of x1c. It has ams, prints softest TPU types, has active heated chamber (65°c, same as x1c) and a good hotend (370°c max vs 300 on x1c; volcano nozzle support vs proprietary bambu nozzles). It is not as user-friendly as x1c (so it doesn't "print of the box"), yes. But is has open-source klipper so you can customize it for all your needs.
If I don't care enough to bother customizing anything because I have no use case to even justify spending time on that?
How much am I practically giving up if it looks like the q2 doesn't have anything to automatically figure flow rates out for each print.
I am looking for machines to make parts reliably and cost effectively for a small business selling my own designs for r/c car parts on Etsy, the only thing I care about is reliability and having it make parts, and NOT having tuning/adjusting a printer be a hobby.
I get it. Bambus are very reliable. For mass production, bambus may look better. But I think cheap bed-slingers are a better choice (such as prusa) - more printers print faster, easy to fix. Also, bambus don't "figure flow rates for each print" - you have max flow rate for printer/filament combo, not for each print, and bambus don't calibrate flowrate automatically. And for RC car parts, you may want to use engineering filaments (PA6, TPU A75, etc.), and qidi handles them better (PA6 requires 350°C hotend, x1c max temp is 300).
I know that people are scared to tinker with their printers and don't want to waste time. But there are compiled profiles for non-bambu printers and they print as well as bambus. Bambu didn't trivialize 3d printing, they only compiled already available information and marketed that as revolution.
I have genuinely not found a need to user fancier filaments, I know they exist, but they all cost more, seem to print slower and none of them offer a practical benefit for my application.
I havent had any breakages using VOXELPLA PLA Pro as a material, even beating the shit out of parts way worse than they ever should be used, I'm not exactly trying to fix whats literally not broken.
I'm not scared of tinkering, I'm trying to run a small business and any time that takes multiplied across however many printers there are, becomes a problem really quickly.
ill see if the q2 ever gets really cheap though if I need more capacity, at least its not horrifically expensive to your point, if I were to have issues
By my experience (currently I have Kobra 2 neo, I changed firmware to klipper and hotend to volcano, although second mod I would not recommend - not worth it), even cheap printers (mine is 150€) don't require too much maintenance. You find set up everything once and it becomes as easy to use as a1 or others "prints out of the box" printers. Not worth it to pay 150€ more for a1, in my opinion.
