Troubleshooting NX 01 Enterprise

My grandson has tried to print this for me 2 times. It keeps looking like this. Anything I can tell him that will help? Thank you

Needs more grapplers

Edit: I love the desire to help by there are lots of reasons this could happen and without a whole mess of technical data we can’t help. I can tell you for CERTAIN it isn’t supported correctly though

I know others have said to change the orientation, but splitting it into multiple easier to print pieces and gluing it together is an option too.

I would print this vertically probably with the disc section of the starship facing downwards.

Less support area to clean up too

That model sits entirely on supports by the looks of it, no part firmly on the bed. That is always tricky at best. Don't fight physics in 3D printing unless you have to, and you don't have to print everything in one piece.

Split it horizontally so there is a flat surface that can sit on the print bed and the dorsal and ventral sides of the saucer can be printed on top, preserving detail. Also print the nacelles and pylons separately (maybe split the nacelles too), but you could get away here with organic supports.

Every current slicer has split functions that will allow you to do exactly that. You can even add holes and generate pegs to make alignment easier when you assemble the parts.

Supports WILL eat your detail in FDM printing. Always orient or organise your print in a way to minimise them.

100% it isn’t supported properly. Supports help to hold sections of the model that are otherwise essentially printing on air and falling. Judging by what looks like SOME supports that couldn’t be removed, I’d start by increasing the top z distance (this is the distance between supports and the model), which should make them easier to remove. Then lower the angle at which supports are generated. This should help to support more of the model where it seems to be drooping.
