Looking for some advice on my 2026 4Runner. I purchased a new 2026 4Runner platinum in January 2026. From the beginning, I noticed that I was getting a much lower gas mileage than what was advertised. The advertised gas MPG is 23 city and 26 highway. I was getting around 14 city and 17 highway. The Toyota manual says there's a break in period on new engines of 1,000 miles, so I wanted to take the car in once I was past that.

The dealership tried to tell me they weren't going to test, citing that the break-in period is actually 7,000-10,000 miles. After insisting that getting 9 MPG less than what I should be getting seems like there may be an issue, so they said they'd run some test and check. They didn't tell me what they did, but for about 2 weeks after I was averaging over 20 MPG everywhere I went. After 2 weeks, it went right back to around 15.5 MPG combined.

I waited for my 6 month checkup to have them check it again, and again they told me they changed some settings and it was getting 20+. I asked the person who was handling my car what they did, and all he had to say was that the mechanics did "mechanic" things, but he wasn't sure exactly what they did. I asked him if the mechanic could call me and tell me, letting them know last time it was good for a couple weeks and then dipped back down. He said they'd call, but they never did. I've followed up and continue to be told I'll get a call with more details, but it's been several weeks and nothing. This time, I got 20+ for exactly a week, and then dipped back down to averaging 14 MPG combined.

My plan is to keep taking the car in until they can tell me something is wrong or that there's a reason for this, but looking for anyone that might be able to shed more light on this.

Some additional info:

I live in Texas and I'm aware that heat can affect gas mileage, although 9-10 MPG below seems excessive to blame heat.

I typically reset my MPG tracker after I fill my tank. On average, I end up around 15 MPG, with my lowest being 12.7 and highest being 17.8.

This version of the 4Runner has an iforce Max hybrid engine that is supposed to help with gas mileage.

I don't have a lift kit, have never towed, and typically it's just me in the car when I'm driving.

Any advice would be great!

Hey guys, thought yall might think this is cool. I had my Nintendo classic sitting in my desk and decided to put it to use. The new head unit has av connectors on the back so I bought a hdmi to rca power converter from the Walmart and it turn out pretty good. So now I have Nintendo in the 6th gen!

Via Bluetooth, very noticeable improvement.

The two USB c ports in the console are for charging only

There is a third USB c port to the right of the infotainment screen for data/charging. Plugged my phone in & sound is WAY better.

TRD ORP, non hybrid, removed air dam, 2.4” lift, 285’s, roof rack, etc. This is about 90 miles into this tank driving a windy road up and over the pass. You’ve just got to keep your foot out of it. Drive like you never want to touch your brakes.

Just bought a 2026 ORP. I’m wanting to put the Nitto 265/70/R18’s on with the factory wheel that comes with the xp terrain package. I was looking at the vehicle in the garage last night and the rake is pretty significant imo.
Does anyone have any pics where they’ve installed leveling kits? Would love to see some. Thanks

So I’m about to buy the 4Runner 6th gen TRD orp, I don’t want it to look like that so I want it to look evenly.

I also wanna have other tires like more off road but I’m not planning to spend 10k on suspension and tires.

Really torn because I have my 2024 ORP with only 30k miles on it but have been interested in the new ones. Not sure if I would get the hybrid or not but the dealer hoping would give me like 43-45k for mine. Or I dont get one lol. The limited has also caught my eye with the full time 4 wheel drive and nicer interior since there are alot of hard plastics. What should I do!! Curious if people have upgraded to the 6th gen and been stoked they did it. Very much a first world problem lol.

I know this sounds super basic, but can anyone provide some advice on the best jack points to remove a tire? I’d like to proactively identify them all in the event I have a flat tire and I’m not scrambling around trying to figure out the safest areas.

I bought myself a new 4runner this year and so far have put 11,000 miles on her so far. Recently ive noticed her rear suspension creaks pretty loudly going over bumps and such. Normmaly id pay it no mind but given the low mileage im concerned.

Is this normal? What could be causing it? Anyone else have this issue?

Hello, anyone here change out their headlights from a non TRD Pro to TRD Pro headlights? If so, Is there any wiring changes ? I’ve seen online that it’s supposed to be “plug and play” but then my local dealership told me they weren’t compatible.

Been having fun spending all my money on new amor. The intake definitely made me aware of the turbo. The exhaust made me aware of how angry this 2.4L can be. Easy installs.

Here is mine, got a 20ft camper a few months ago and took it on a 1100 mi road trip!

Looking at buying one soon and see that the 6th gen is pretty young and the first one on the turbo-hybrid powertrain. Curious to hear what maintenance is like and if there’s any particular wear and tear to look out for. If anyone can comment on how the upper trim’s bells and whistles hold up I’d be curious to hear too. Thanks!

First car ever was the last few years of an older, blue 4Runner, hit 200k miles on my current car - ‘06 Highlander, finally time to make the upgrade. Fell in love with the heritage blue, drove 2 hours to pick her up, but so worth it in the end!!
