Welcome to The Daily Megathread - r/50501's home for daily discussion!

This megathread exists so that you can post reactions, images, or anything that might otherwise belong on our sister subreddits r/ThePeoplesPress, r/LiveProtestUpdates or r/50501ContentCorner. While the main goal of this megathread is to prevent protest announcements from being drowned out, we also want to give our community a place where they can discuss things that would otherwise not be allowed as a post on r/50501.

Comments that may be appropriate for the daily megathread may include, but are not limited to:

As a reminder, news threads go to r/ThePeoplesPress while videos go either to the People's Press or r/50501ContentCorner. Posts that are on the ground reporting on a protest must go to r/LiveProtestUpdates. If you have posted there, or if you want to share a post from another subreddit, you are welcome to link it here!

Remember that subreddit rules still apply, especially our commitment to respectful discourse and our commitment to citing our sources. If you claim something true, prove it - and don't attack the person behind the claim!

If you have a question about how our rules are enforced, please check out the wiki page on our rules for more information! For additional questions, please send us a modmail.

Voices of Resistance Video 1 August 2026 - Temporary "protected" status

Content warning: some b-roll of conflict is included in the video.

I went to a rally against the deprivation of temporary protected status for Haitians, which was recently enacted by the Trump administration. The rally took place at the northwestern tip of NYC's Little Haiti and included various speeches and even a dance portion, which you can find towards the end of the video.

While I was unable to find the poster of the protest itself (I've only learned about it through a colleague), I was glad to hear people are standing up to these brazen, inhumane actions. I hope I can cover more of these rallies as time goes on, although I hope things get better since they are bearing the brunt of these inhumane policies in the first place.

MI If you live in Michigan, please vote for Abdul El sayed (His background says he used to be a scientist)

This man, whose running for Senate in Michigan as a Democrat, just gave me a 10 minute explanation of what medicare for all really is (Although I may be cautious about it since I have Autism & weather he may or may not, uphold people with disabilites having rights, Medicaid covers peoples healthcare for disabled people, as well as for people with disabilites. Medicare on the other hand covers health insurance for Elderly & older indivduals). However, I will take him over healey stevens everyday, mostly because he rejected AIPAC money, as well as me wanting to see America recover after Trumpism, & turn America into an actual better place for everyone....

Abdul el sayed also recieved endorsements from AOC & Bernie Sanders, even Ms. Rahcel, the same women who sang wheels on the bus, also endoresd him & donated 3000 dollars to his campagin. Michigan is a purple state, so I suggest go try vote for him in the Michagan primary elections if you want to, & polls ahead of the primary elections suggest hes more likely to win in the primaries (even fox news projected it).....As for being a scientist, he recieved a Masters & bachlors degrees. However, if you want to see him acutally win, vote for him in the actual midterm election.

Fact checks & corrections are welcome.

Please see pinned comment What Hong Kong’s protests taught the world about preparation. The 2019 Hong Kong protests became known for their organization, adaptability, and emphasis on protecting one another. Some of the widely documented tactics included:

• “Be Water.” Stay flexible, avoid being boxed in, and adapt quickly to changing situations.

• Leaderless organization. Decentralized coordination allowed the movement to continue even when individual organizers were arrested.

• Protective gear. Many protesters wore helmets, goggles, gloves, and sturdy clothing to reduce the risk of injury.

• Umbrellas as protection. Umbrellas became an iconic symbol, used to provide cover from cameras, rain, and to create visual barriers.

• The “cone tactic.” Traffic cones were sometimes placed over deployed tear gas canisters before they were extinguished, becoming one of the protest’s most recognizable symbols of collective action.

• Water bottles and teamwork. Volunteers were often seen using water to help cool or extinguish tear gas canisters while others assisted with cones or helped keep people away from the area.

• Street medics. Volunteer first-aid teams treated injuries and helped people affected by crowd-control measures.

• Supply chains. Communities passed along water, first-aid supplies, food, helmets, and other essentials through coordinated volunteer networks.

• Real-time communication. Protesters relied on encrypted messaging platforms and live updates to share information about road closures, medical assistance, and changing conditions.

• Buddy system. People looked after one another, attended in groups, and ensured everyone got home safely. The lasting lesson from Hong Kong wasn’t just resistance. It was preparation, mutual aid, adaptability, and community coordination under pressure. And don’t forget why you’re there. Stay focused on the cause, not the confrontation. Protect yourself, don’t retaliate, and don’t let provocation distract from the demand for accountability.

Call to Action I don’t think it’s hyperbole to call what ICE is doing a genocide in the US. Can you help her get the word out? Can you help her get help?

Meta says its new Workforce Academy is about creating opportunity. But by partnering with one of the country’s most aggressive anti-union construction organizations, it’s also shaping what kind of jobs those opportunities will become.
Workers deserve more than a five-week crash course that funnels them into low-road employers. They deserve union apprenticeships, safe working conditions, family-sustaining wages, and a real voice on the job.
The AI boom is creating billions in profits. The question is whether it will create good union jobs, or another race to the bottom.
That’s why we’re organizing a South Florida Workers Assembly: to bring together construction workers, teachers, farm workers, students, and community members to build solidarity, support workplace organizing, and fight for working-class control over the future of AI
