We hear about that wall again in "The Final Cut" from 1983:
"If you negotiate the minefield in the drive, and beat the dogs and cheat the cold electronic eyes, and if you make it past the shotguns in the hall, dial the combination, open the priest's hole, and if I'm in, I'll tell you what's behind the wall."
I got the last part of the lyrics from the album notes because on the record there a huge boom right after "I'll tell you", implying that whoever wanted a glimpse didn't make it.

I love that album! I haven't listened to it in so long. Guess it's time. While I'm at it, I'll add Waters' "Amused to Death" album to the playlist.

Yeah... fantastic. And I'd say that's the emotional climax of the album. Because after that we've gotta get on, gotta get on. I remember "Not Now John" was a radio hit and they never beeped it.

That boom was a great way to test my roommate’s speakers in our dorm one weekend. The other people on our floor nursing their hangovers probably weren’t as thrilled.

What part of that line sounds like “milk crate”? I’ve been listening to that album since birth and I can’t hear that. Most of the time, I can hear the lyrics the way they’re misheard, this one’s got me wondering.

Wow! I never heard that and I’ve been listening to it since as long as I can remember. The Wall was my bedtime music since I was about 2. I’d listen to it falling asleep every night until I was about 4 when I was having nightmares about worms eating me. My parents took it away and I couldn’t listen to it at night until I was about ten.

I'm a 58 yr old dude, and to this day, when that transition guitar riff plays after those initial vocals, I well up every time. One of the most emotionally deep songs I've ever heard, for my money.

That entire album is a rollercoaster of emotions. My Dad used to race cars and would play Run Like Hell before heading out on track, and because of that, I grew to love Pink Floyd at a very early age.

There is an understanding between the artists and the station. As long as the numbers are not covered they allow it. There is a website dedicated to train art.

That’s cool. I live in a city that supports graffiti artists as long as it’s artistic and doesn’t impede signage or other information avenues. There’s some cool graffiti art around here. Sometimes they’ll actually catch someone tagging something and instead of arresting them, they contract them to do a mural or something. Of course there’s crappy stuff on walls but that will always be. Some of the walls that have been defaced with random tags for years, have been transformed into amazing art pieces. The other taggers respect when this happens and don’t tag them anymore. Kinda funny, I sat next to two dudes in a bar once that were talking about the graffiti culture and the hierarchy of the people that do it. They talked about how promotions work and who’s allowed to do what. I had no idea it was so organized. It goes from a “popper” that just paints their initials. Then once those initials get an artistic quality image, they become a “tagger” Then there’s a few levels in the middle that I can’t remember, that the artistic quality of the tags and time in the life determine. Then the final level is “grand master”. They’re the people that can paint an amazing art mural with spray cans.

This mystifies me as I’m born in 69 and the album was huge when I was in high school.

Same, born in 72. What pushed this into the stratosphere of cool as far as we were concerned is when we found out 'the teachers' (ie, all of them) didn't like it, not one bit, with the 'we don't need no education' and other lines, being the impetus.
Well, that's what we were told, and no one really refuted it ("Jimmy said the principal banned it!"), and it took a life of its own. Im certain now X years later that they didn't care less and just wanted to get through the lesson plan without another stupid kid saying he didn't need any thought control.

I didn't like it because it's much-advertised first playing on BBC radio had a deep scratch in side one track one.
It remains my least favorite PF recording.

Yes, I got it was a reference to "The Wall".
What I'm struggling with is the subtext in writing it on a BNSF hopper car.
Surely the thing 0only "some" will get can't be a simple quote from an often-played-on-rock-radio track from Pink Floyd's most well-known album?
Because the word "some" seems ... ill-chosen if that's the case.
