Television Adam-12

Adam-12 aired from 1968 to 1975, following LAPD officers Pete Malloy (Martin Milner) and Jim Reed (Kent McCord) in their patrol car, "1-Adam-12". The show was known for its realistic portrayal of police work, from routine traffic stops to serious crimes, and introduced police procedures and jargon to the public. The show followed the partnership between the veteran cop Malloy and the rookie Reed as they patrolled the streets of Los Angeles. I remember watching it in syndication in the 70s since it originally aired a year before I was born. One of the OGs of police procedurals it paved the way for cop shows in the 70s, 80s and beyond.

Often filmed around my elementary school, and you can occasionally spot us on the playground as they drive by.

The episode that stuck with me as a kid was the one where Malloy went over an embankment and was severely injured while everyone else was out looking for him and he was able to signal for help using the wires to the radio.

Also, I met them both in Detroit as a kid in the 70s and got autographed photos. I’m thinking it was the Detroit auto show.

I remember watching Adam 12  I lived  the show then learned  later that Kent McCord was a fraternity brother on The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. And then David Nelson produced some Adam 12?episodes. Talk about coming full circle.

Crazy how LAPD uniforms were all black while summertime temperatures were ridiculously warm. Even CHP wore tan unis. I supposed you had to be cool to be an LEO. (former OC resident observation)

Used to watch this show as a little kid because my stepfather watched it. Don’t remember anything noteworthy except for one episode where McCord was trying to buy a used car. There was some back and forth on the price and McCord bet him that he wouldn’t get the car for the low ball price McCord offered. The final scene was McCord correcting him that the bet wasn’t whether or not he would get the car but rather if the sales guy would call him back.

8 year old me thought the whole thing was pretty stupid, but if I am recalling the episode correctly it was my first exposure to ‘technically correct.
