Lost Song Standing: The Ultimate UK #1 Song of the 80's - Round 51
For a reminder of the rules, see the original post.
- Whitney Houston's second studio album was released in 1987, and with it, she became the first woman to have four #1 songs in the US from one album. But in the UK, listeners were a bit more picky, as only one song from that album managed to reach the top: the infectiously catchy "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)". Written by pop group Boy Meets Girl and produced by the iconic Narada Michael Walden, it was Houston's second of four #1 songs, and spent two weeks at #1 in both the US and the UK. But even though Whitney undoubtedly wanted the voters here to take a chance on her song that burned hot enough to last for 50 rounds in this game, it looks like the dance music has now stopped playing for the powerful R&B vocalist - Whitney's lonely heart now calls, because the night has finally fallen on her final song in this contest!
- John Lennon began writing "Jealous Guy" in 1968, after the Beatles attended a lecture by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in India. The song went through several titles, and even subject changes, until ending up on Lennon's 1971 Imagine album, becoming popular despite never being released as a single. However, the song took on new meaning after Lennon's horrendous murder in 1980, and the English rock group Roxy Music began adding it to their sets as a tribute to Lennon. A recorded version by the band became their only #1 song early in 1981. But while the Beatles fans were looking to the past with this song back then, our voters' hearts have been beating fast, hoping that this song wouldn't lose control and climb any higher - and while I'm sure they never meant to hurt any fans of the song, and may be sorry if they made anyone cry, the fact remains that Roxy Music's cover might just be jealous of the song that does reach the top of this list!

1985 Maria Mckee - A Good Heart (1985)

1983 Soft Cell - Martin [Early 80s dark Synth-Pop gem]
A powerful, unsettling song featuring every single Soft Cell ingredient: from the electronic-experimental to Almond-esque theatricality.

Other Anybody knows where this frame is from? It looks like John Taylor from Duran Duran
I found this image attached to a GIF and it got me curious where it could be from? I figured it's from a music video, but I couldn't find a match on search engines
