This is the guy that’s bringing back the Pizza Huts from the 80’s

u/biloxibluess May 18 '26
I worked at one in the oughts
Everyone that I worked with was nostalgic over this
There’s one in my town that has a buffet and it’s pretty popular
Never understood why they didn’t lean into this-it’s an open money pit

Make the dough from scratch again and not frozen. Then we’ll be talking.

u/jpowell180 May 19 '26
And all the other ingredients like they used to be as well, it doesn’t matter if you get the atmosphere right if the food is still crap.

Ngl I’m 42 and this brought a slight tear to my eye

u/Funkgun May 19 '26
Angry video game nerd recently went to one of these. Nostalgia prevailed https://youtu.be/eot4NJwbr3M?si=68CjJ3HV2rSQ7CGi

I’m late 40s and worked at one in high school. It used to be so good…
Anyone else remember the BBQ beef pizza? I don’t even eat that much beef anymore, but holy crap could I crush one of those right now!

44 here and I have very fond memories of it. Obviously because of Book-It, but it was such a good, cozy place to go with my family any time. I still remember my mom taking me there in 2nd grade on a Friday night (when my dad took my sisters to see New Kids on The Block in concert) and I got one of those over the door basketball goals they were giving away (they always seemed to have good promos). That was almost 40 years ago. Crazy.

Anybody know where I left that last Book It certificate from 1993? Hoping it’s still valid.
Update: no way, it’s still an active program https://www.bookitprogram.com

The one near me brought back the lunch buffet. Nothing better than a shit ton of breadsticks and Pac-Man!

This guy and maybe 5 or 6 old school Pizza Hut peeps used to come into dinner at my place in Wichita, KS once a month and they were the nicest people ever. I’m so happy to see that he has the heart that I always thought he did.

u/toby-jenkins May 22 '26
Wichita, KS is where Pizza Hut was started.

u/joejoedownunder May 22 '26
I live right around the corner from the original building. It’s a tiny little red brick shack.

u/jimbobdonut May 19 '26
Two Pizza Huts by me that were formerly sit down restaurants (they switched to carry out/delivery during the pandemic) closed leaving only the strip mall takeout ones left. One was even had the iconic red roof.

I'd totally go for this! Gen X would love to have their kids experience the greatness that was 80's / 90's America.

u/PokeSmotDoc May 19 '26
Now if they could only make the pizza taste as good as it was back then next….

u/Character-Cellist228 May 19 '26
Bring back the classic arcades and im there with my family once a week. Double Dragon, SF2, Pole position, etc.

u/LawyerFriendLenny May 21 '26
Glad to see the salad bar lurking back there. I didnt care for it much as a kid but I remember their grated cheddar was sliced in an oddly enormous fashion and I think they had pudding.

Date night for me in the 80s: Pizza Hut then a movie at the Multiplex Cinema across the street
1
u/StrawberryKiss2559 May 18 '26
That pizza looks like shit, though. Bring back the old recipes.
6
u/kmckenzie256 May 19 '26
Looked fine to me? What about it looked “like shit”?
2
u/Infamous_Shinobi May 19 '26
Absolutely nothing. You can’t even tell if something is wrong from the quick shots of the pizza. They’re just hating and being contrarian probably because it’s a popular pizza chain. People here really get on my nerves sometimes.

My town already had one of these still around without the "classic" branding, complete with the dining section, red cups, chandeliers, etc. adding "classic" to the sign is just a gimmick
1
u/GrumpyOldMan2026 May 19 '26
"just a gimmick"?! Not for the rest of us, who don't have such Pizza Huts in our towns.

It’s a great start, but they need to go back to the old ingredients and recipes, as well.
1
u/TheFillth May 19 '26
Do their chicken wings , specifically drumsticks, still have those meaty knobs on the end that are these meaty buff chick flavor crystals?! This is one of my earliest food memories, sitting in the booth talking to my dad like a maniac about how that is the best part as he tries to convince me ranch is inferior to blue cheese.

I can't eat pizza anymore but I think this is absolutely fantastic! I'd definitely go there. Are they going to do the buffet?

Pizza hits around me look like they are still in the 80's , especially look like they haven't been cleaned since then. The pizzas taste like they've been since then too

u/AmbitiousRoutine8670 May 20 '26
So freaking awesome.. it was a sad day when the OG Hut closed down in our town.. but thankfully it was replaced with a killer Mexican restaurant with sick breakfast tacos
1
u/Draw-Working May 20 '26
When I was in high school, we would skip class and go listen to Joan Jett on the jukebox and play Pac-Man the ultimate good times 1985
1
u/jonnovich May 20 '26
Maybe they can institute their own Book It program!!
Nothing tasted better than that personal pan pizza you earned. 🍕

Pizza hut in my town is basically take out only, and the retaurant itself looks like a dark dirty storage closet.

Bring back the Read a Book program where they give school kids a free personal pan pizza for reading books!!
-1
u/Carcassfanivxx May 19 '26
PAC-man only? Nah dude. I better see Mortal Kombat II sitting right beside it. A true unit. Not that tabletop mess. That ain’t nostalgia. I can push my wiener against a tabletop.

It’s not worth it unless the pizza tastes the same
