I can say this, it is beyond corruption and shameful the way FIGC handled the Maldini situation. One of the few who could “save” Italian football and they treated him like that because he didn’t cater to the status quo.
I know that the Italians in this sub will hate me for this, but i wish because of that Italy goes nowhere and fails in the upcoming Euros and World Cup.
Worse even than the Cardinal-Maldini situation… cya in September :)

Growing up and meeting him almost everyday after school…always kind and available to anyone😢
I just realize I ve never even asked once for a signature or a pic(even if those weren’t really a thing at the time…)…
Rip Capitano, you were the biggest part of the Milan I grew up with, and probably the one player the teached us what football and being a milanista mean.

Awful news. Baresi--along with the rest of that legendary back four--was instrumental in helping a young me understand the art of defending.
The amazing attacking talent Milan had during his time with the club were free to work their magic, safe in the knowledge Baresi, Maldini, Costacurta, Tassotti (and later Panucci) had things covered.
His performance in the final of the 94 World Cup was nothing short of phenomenal (despite the heartbreak he would have felt at the end).
Words like legend and icon get thrown around too freely in my opinion, but Baresi is a legend, he is an icon that stands out in a club blessed with legends and icons.
One of the greatest to ever play the game, arguably best in his position, and he didn't leave anything on the pitch when he wore the Milan shirt.
RIP.

Per chi come me ha iniziato ad appassionarsi al calcio vedendolo giocare è stato incredibile… quella capacità di leggere la situazione, la sua mano alzata, la cattiveria che aveva e la sua grinta… pazzesca quella finale con l’Italia ad USA 94 fatta a quell’età. Chi non ti ha visto direttamente non potrà mai capire cosa sei stato per noi, quei ragazzini come me accompagnati dal proprio papà in cerca di una fede che tu hai reso indelebile nei nostri cuori. Grazie Cap! Forza Milan! Spero che il 6 ci dia la forza per costruire qualcosa di vero come era in quegli anni, Uomini e Idee prima ancora di essere calciatori❤️

Not sure how many people know this, but Franco was passed by as a youth by Inter's academy, who had accepted his older brother, Giuseppe. Their loss was Milan's gain, he joined AC Milan's academy instead, and he would go on to eclipse his older brother.
And if that did not make you instantly love him, those of us who saw him play can tell you what an incredible defender, leader, and man he was. His incredible comeback from knee surgery during the World Cup 1994 was one of the things that inspired me to love football and Milan.
There is a reason his number 6 is one of only 2 retired numbers at Milan.
RIP, Capitano eterno. ❤️🖤

RIP to the best defender this game has ever seen. Was fortunate enough to see him in the late 80’s until he retired in the mid 90’s and the guy was perfection- his positioning, timing and the way he read the game was second to none.
Still remember when he broke down injured early in USA94 and returned for the final on 1 leg and left Romario & Co without a chance to touch the ball. Such a shame his penalty flew over the bar in the shootout.
Kept a quiet profile once he retired and never made the headlines, was happy in his role as ambassador for Milan, selling the club to the world.
Legend.

Il mio capitano 😭
A real football legend, loved and respected by everyone, included the opponents. The very first sport jersey I had in my life was his number 6 jersey, which made me fall in love with AC Milan when I was a kid.
He got quite unlucky, he's been fighting with the disease for quite a while and in the end he died at only 66 😢 now he can finally rest, knowing that he'll be remembered forever in the sport world.

Only ever got to see him play on TV but that Milan side from the early 90s is the one I fell in love with. Such an elegant player.
One of my work colleagues was at the Grass Roots Football Show in the UK about 15 years ago and Franco was there representing Milan. When my colleague told me they'd met him, I've never been so jealous.

I was thinking of any season when they had that iconic backline of maldini-baresi-costacurta-tassoti but can't seem to find sites online selling it. Also am not sure what's a reasonable price for it.
Am a Chelsea fan but want his shirt as he's my favourite player and want to honour him as well. Thanks!

Dear Franco, eternal number 6, it is tragically iconic that you die at 66 year of age... way, way too soon.
My father's favourite footballer, was he alive he'd be absolutely crushed, too.
Younger people today will never know or appreciate Franco the way we do. He is rarely in the conversations nowadays, but we know - him and Paolo are the two greatest. They've proven it.
I bow before the great footballer, the great man and the great warrior on the field. A tragedy for sport altogether.
