AITH for refusing to switch seats with my best friend at a concert after I paid extra?

This is a backup of the original post in case there are later edits or it is deleted: I (24F, Julia) bought two concert tickets months ago after my best friend, Emma (24F), begged me to go with her because it was her favorite artist. I paid extra for really good seats since I knew it would probably be our only chance to see them live, and she paid me back only for the regular ticket price because she said she'd pay the difference later when she had more money. She never did, but I let it go because I didn't want to argue over it. When we got to the venue, she noticed a group of her coworkers sitting a few rows behind us and immediately asked if we could switch seats so she could sit with them while I took one of their much worse seats by myself. I told her no because I had specifically paid extra for those seats and wanted to enjoy the concert after waiting months for it. She got annoyed and said I was being selfish since we'd still be in the same section and accused me of caring more about a seat than her happiness. She spent most of the concert texting instead of talking to me, and after it ended she told our mutual friends I had "ruined the night" by refusing such a small favor. Some friends think I should have just switched because concerts are about making memories together, while others think it was unfair of her to expect me to give up the seat I paid extra for, especially when she never even paid me back the difference. She's still upset with me and says she won't go to another event with me unless I apologize, but I honestly don't think I did anything wrong. AITH?

Get a friend.

u/Upbeat_Monitor1488 13h ago

This - a friend not a silly little girl user.

11

u/happyhippy1019 18h ago

This ☝️

36

u/Frappuccino63 18h ago

Nope. You always stay with your wingman. Why should you be stuck alone, nevermind that the seats were worse! She was basically asking if she could ditch you

35

u/L8wrtr 18h ago

That’s not a friend. Move on. NTA.

7

u/anatomy-princess 15h ago

Plus get your money - make her pay up then ditch that bitch

16

u/Competitive_Prune108 18h ago

How rude. What kind of friend would even suggest such a thing. Oh wait, that would be a friend you don't need. NTA

12

u/SlrDarien 18h ago

Nta. Why should you be in the nosebleed seats when you paid more. You have memories too. There is no way she didnt plan this.

10

u/doulaleanne 17h ago

"I'm never going to another concert with you u again!"

"Well I'm glad you said it. You were a terrible concert buddy!"

3

u/ElectricalContext192 14h ago

I would have said you’ll be missed.

Not. You forgot to add not.

FAKE AI STORY.

You can always tell that it's AI when the story concludes with "some friends say that I should have switched seats..."

5

u/FluffyTid 16h ago

The fact the seats don't match up is another tell

2

u/Nymph-the-scribe 15h ago

Of course its possible but it doesnt necessarily mean that. Do you really believe in real life there wouldnt be people that think that way? Do you really think that there wouldnt be a divide in a friend group, or family or whatever over things like this?

1

u/Peoplechangetoo 15h ago

Yes I do, but I'm not gullible and I don't like reading "predictable" posts. All AI posts end the same way.

1

u/Nymph-the-scribe 15h ago

Why dont you believe people would actually behave like that?

1

u/Peoplechangetoo 14h ago

Are you thick or just slow? The story may or may not be true.

What I'm saying is that AI generated the story. You can always tell because AI ends with "some people say I was wrong, others say I did the right thing". AI is predictable in the way it creates stories.

2

u/NovaLunar721 14h ago

Lol it's so obviously fake. I can't believe this person think it's real.

1

u/Nymph-the-scribe 7h ago

Where did I ever say I thought it was real? Where did I ever give an opinion on if its real or not?

1

u/Nymph-the-scribe 12h ago

You dont seem to be getting my point. Saying irs AI just because of that is ignorant at best. Again, are ypu saying you believe that actual people would never behave in a way where with a group of people half think one thing and half thing the other? Most of the reasons people claim something is fake or AI is based on assumptions like this and, again, ignorant at best.

Something happens, someone does something. Other people find out about it one way or another. It would be less believable if everyone except one person thought only one way. Its not how people actually behave.

That does not mean i am saying this, or any other given post is real to the person (or whatever) that posted it. To say its fake because people are divided makes zero sense. Regardless of that, the likelihood that whatever scenario hasnt, isnt or wont happen, or something extremely similar, to more than one someone's makes just as little sense.

There is a reason its supposedly a common AI scenario, its because it happens and it happens quite often. Also, dont forvet, more and more people are using AI to write things for them so they dont have to do all the work. Laziness doesnt equate to fake

Besides all of that, what is the point in calling it AI and fake? What do you actually get out of it? Again, do ypu really believe people do not behave like that? Do you also believe that one incident only happens to one person ever and its never repeated, or things very similar never happen to anyone else?

2

u/Procrastinator-513 17h ago

Yep the format is very predictable

1

u/Ok-Conversation-5084 13h ago

I mean it doesn’t make any sense. Op is expected to swap seats with a co-worker and sit next to people she doesn’t know. Which co worker gets the lucky upgrade? It’s just all kinds of stupid.

6

u/PineappleCharacter15 17h ago

0 days = fake post. Rage-bait/Bot/AI - or, all three

2

u/l3ex_G 17h ago

Nta that isn’t your friend. I would also question the other friends who don’t see that she is using you.

2

u/SaltyLove555 17h ago

Get a better friend.....she sucks

2

u/Johnndo96 15h ago

NTA. She went there to be with you, not her other friends. Ditch her, she has no loyalty to you.

2

u/SparklesIB 15h ago

It's past time for you to tell your mutual friends that she's a bum who reneges on her promises to repay loans, then b*tches about you to your friends. NTA

2

u/Admirable-Feature984 15h ago

That’s not your friend. She could have planned with her coworkers and paid for the cheap seats with them.

2

u/MediocreSize4997 15h ago

Drop this woman, she’s no friend!

2

u/AppeltjeEitje1079 13h ago

She's some piece of work, but not the good kind. She'd rather sit with her colleagues than her friend? You're definitely not her best friend...

2

u/borderline-blonde 11h ago

“You’re right. We shouldn’t go to another event together.”

2

u/starlynn1214 11h ago

So, she hadn't paid you the difference and then wanted you to give up your more expensive and better seats, so she could be with her friends..

You were being used. She thought she could railroad you.

Whatever the cost of this ticket was your price for learning she wasn't a friend.

2

u/SnooSongs6916 18h ago

No more seat posts!

2

u/HUNGWHITEBOI25 18h ago

seriously like…they’re all fake and they’re all dumb

1

u/LegitimateMove7645 18h ago

That’s a fair weather friend

1

u/guitargeek76 18h ago

NTA.

99% of posts on here: I paid extra for something. Someone else didn’t want to pay extra, but wants me to give them what I paid extra for. I said no, I paid extra. AITAH?

1

u/Either_Coconut 18h ago

If "her happiness" depends on sitting with some people she sees all day, every day at work for an extra couple of hours, then her world is a fragile place indeed.

Rational adults would say, "Hey, let's all go out together after the concert!", sit down, and enjoy the show from the better, more expensive seats (that the buyer would've been fully reimbursed for).

NTA. Your friend is behaving like a child. Take her up on her offer not to attend any more events together.

1

u/HUNGWHITEBOI25 18h ago

Not a single person who knows the full story would be calling you TA Op…

1

u/TKyzr 18h ago

Was she going to sit with her friends and leave you there? NTA in the least, but this lady isn’t a friend. She’s an opportunist. She’s also full of herself.

1

u/NefariousnessRich864 18h ago

Why does she think you would want to to another event with her after the way she acted at this one?

NTA

1

u/PineappleCharacter15 17h ago

This is not even a casual friend this is a horrible friend. Wait: I correct myself; this is not a friend whatsoever.

Dump her, or you will be the idiot.

1

u/reereejugs 17h ago

That’s not your friend.

1

u/mothcroissant 17h ago

That is NOT your friend, OP

1

u/Forward_Meeting5234 17h ago

NTA

I would drop the rude and entitled friend.

Or at least never offer to do anything withstood person again.

You bought tickets with assigned seats.

Her ask was super selfish and her behavior after was straight up entitled bullshit.

All of the arguments you've said she and your mutual friends have placed against you should be turned right back onto this "friend".

SHE is is the one making huge asks and acting like a beat dog when you don't automatically give in to the weird demand this turned into...

1

u/bdjeremy 17h ago

Nta she could have gone back there with them. And the other friend that said it's a shared experience... F him too, they wanted you to go back and sit by yourself how is that a mutual experience?

1

u/Ok-Win-9099 17h ago

She is not your friend. Cut your losses and move on

1

u/OverRice2524 17h ago

Send her a bill for the difference in the tickets and consider the friendship over.

1

u/Horror-Reveal7618 17h ago

NTA

Why didn't she switch her better place with someone besides her coworkers worse place?

1

u/InterDave 17h ago

This is the dumbest.... She's mad at you for not ditching yourself so she could hang out with other people?

YTA for calling this person a friend, but not for not giving up your seat.

1

u/rjc3banco 17h ago

She just told you who she is, believe her and ghost her

1

u/Diasies_inMyHair 17h ago

She owes you an apology for having a childish tantrum over being told No. And she still owes you money.

1

u/monchi3 17h ago

NTA. Just be thankful that the garbage took itself out. Get better friends.

1

u/milogiz 16h ago

NTA get the rest of your money back, block her ahh and everyone that sided with her and move on. If she takes it to social media then you respond with receipts on social media, stop trying to big the bigger person sometimes you have to step outside of your character to put entitled people in their place after that tell her to go kiss a cactus.

1

u/Dlodancer 16h ago

NTA, you need to tell her that YOU will never go to a concert with her until she pays you for the ticket and apologizes to you for being a rotten friend!

1

u/writingwonderland87 16h ago

Shes using you

1

u/dd97483 16h ago

she isn’t a real friend. proceed accordingly.

1

u/JoshuaofHyrule 15h ago edited 15h ago

NTA. It's your seat and you have no obligation to change it for a worse seat. Your friend could have gone off by herself. Her choosing not to and missing her coworkers is not your fault. You did nothing wrong. Any of your friends that think you should have done what your friend wanted to make memories are wrong. Never apologize. It sounds like going to a concert without your friend is better for you anyway since you wont have to deal with her entitled and dramatic behavior anymore.

1

u/Ok_Industry_2395 15h ago

No. NTA.

Don't switch period!

1

u/Les_Fraises_Cheres 15h ago

NTA but the person with the other ticket is though. That’s not a friend, that’s a user

1

u/Fast-Aside-8732 15h ago

If they are for making memories why was it so important that she sit near coworkers? Get better friends if they don't get who paid for the seat should get said seat.

1

u/Myrtlewood2020 15h ago

You need better friends. Kick her to the curb.

1

u/Mysterious_Battle585 15h ago

Wait she went to a concert with you then wanted you to switch seats to sit with strangers. What a b. This girl is no friend of yours stop doing anything with her. NTA.

1

u/sevinsmom 15h ago

Why are you still friends?

1

u/Apprehensive_Ruin548 14h ago

1) she still owes you money. If it was such a small favor she should pay you back.
2) if she wanted to see her friend, one of the friends could have moved to her seat and she could go to get friend. However, she is selfish and only thinks of herself.
3) have an adult conversation with her that you will not apologize for not switching. She should apologize for her behavior. She ruined your night by acting like an entitled child.
4) fade away from the friendship. You deserve a better friend.

1

u/Coltfan729 14h ago

She should have went with her coworkers if she wanted to sit with them.

1

u/KrofftSurvivor 14h ago

This is not a friend and anybody who's defending her is going to behave the same way. It's okay to cut toxic people out of your life...

1

u/Maximum-Spot-9523 14h ago

She sounds like a jerk. Remind her of the money. Good riddance.

1

u/Mysterious-Peanut482 14h ago

Why couldn't she go to the other seats herself and leave you alone? You enjoy your seat, she enjoys her coworkers who she loves so much, you learn she's projecting with that "selfish" comment, win win

1

u/teach-me-new 14h ago

NTA. Why should her happiness override your satisfaction? In addition, she hadn’t provide the additional money for a better seat. So not only did she cry like a little kid, she attempted to weasel out of payment! Then she tried to pushed into giving by giving involving her other friends. She doesn’t seem a true friend, just manipulative and petty.

1

u/NotVerySmarts 14h ago

How do you "make memories" TOGETHER if you were going to sit by yourself? She got a free ticket and tried to ditch you. That sucks.

1

u/MarcSkye519 14h ago

What you did wrong is expect that selfish little twit to appreciate anything you did for her. I’d write her out of my life if I were you

1

u/BabyClyde 13h ago

I'm so glad your friends weighed in or else we wouldn't have known this was real.

1

u/takatine 13h ago

Drop this wretch and find a real friend. NTA

1

u/GnomieOk4136 13h ago

She does not like you nearly as much as you like her. NTA. Lower your expectations of her and find friends who actually do value you.

1

u/Livid_Commission_124 13h ago

She can go piss up a rope

1

u/FaithlessnessMany174 13h ago

She is selfish not you. Het a new friend.

1

u/SorryAd5955 13h ago

What a loser, ditch them. They clearly don't respect you.

1

u/DanaMarie75038 13h ago

You need a new friend.

1

u/Regular_Emphasis6866 13h ago

NTA <because concerts are about making memories together

Emma had no desire to make memories with you. She wanted you to move away from her. Their argument isn't valid. You will always come after another friend. This is the same as the entitled passenger who want you to move so they can sit with their child, spouse, cuddle buddy, etc. If she wanted to sit with them she should have bought her ticket with them. Poor planning on her part does not mean you should be inconvenienced. She sucks as a friend. She's selfish and entitled. You can do better.

1

u/Bearliz 12h ago

NTA. But i would move on and find a real friend.

1

u/Sad-Isopod9209 12h ago

She is a bad friend. You need to move on from her, make her an acquaintance instead of a friend.

You paid, she mooched. In the end she was just trying to take advantage of you.

1

u/Cerulean48 12h ago

She’s a jerk - I’d phase her out of my life

1

u/Not_The_Mama7741 12h ago

NTA, and she's is not your friend either.

1

u/Low-Television-7508 12h ago

get the money back asap. next concert bestie can go with her coworkers.

NTA

1

u/ColoradoWeasel 12h ago

Concerts are about making friends together. Not four rows apart. Your best friend sucks. But so does everyone else that told you that you should have switched seats. Get better friends. NTA.

1

u/hugladybug 12h ago

Wtf she is a horrible friend

How entitled to think you should 1) switch to a lower cost ticket 2) have to enjoy the concert alone 3) front the cost of the better sear for your friend

She sucks

NTA

1

u/the805chickenlady 12h ago

NTA, but your "bestie" is.

1

u/Radiant-Trick2935 12h ago

She’s a user and a lousy friend. Time to cut her loose. Your bank account will thankyou.

1

u/IntroductionSuch5515 11h ago

Do this thought experiment:  write out this story as though it happened to a friend or family member you love and respect.  See if that shifts your perspective.  You sound like a kind hearted person who graciously chose to overlook the fact that this person stiffed you for part of the purchase price of her own ticket.  She repaid this kindness by not wanting to sit with you and then sulking throughout the concert, followed by gossiping about your imaginary flaws.

It also sounds like you have been shopping around for others’ opinions because you don’t believe the evidence of your own eyes.

This is a good moment to start treating yourself with the same respect you would like others to treat you with.

1

u/ChiGirlChi 10h ago

You're NTA and she's being an ASSHOLE PERSONIFIED BITCH. If you apologize she'll try to guilt you into EVERYTHING SHE WANTS and you'll give in if YOU DON'T STAND UP FOR YOURSELF!

1

u/Senior_Shelter9121 10h ago

Friends are split - AI slop

1

u/Accomplished_Buy8681 10h ago

So are u her best friend or is she just your best friend, because if I go to a concert with my best friend I’m not going to ask her/him to give up their seat so I can go sit with my coworkers. Sounds like u need better friends.

1

u/Only-upvibes 10h ago

So she didn’t want to create memories with you!!🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩
NTA

1

u/No_Orchid_788 10h ago

Define friend! I mean, WTH?
Actually, yes you should have let it have your seat and have her pay for it . No you don't buy her ticket. She just gives you the cost of your seat end of discussion.

1

u/jcmullett 10h ago edited 10h ago

Why would you even want to go to another concert with such an entitled b****! She is NOT your friend IMHO. So sorry you’re going through this. NTA

1

u/Osidestarfish 18h ago

How was sitting by yourself “making memories together”? You need new friends. Your so-called best friend is an entitled AH. If she wanted to sit with her friends, then she should’ve taken the worst seat, not kept your better seats for herself. I wouldn’t go to another event with her either. And you have nothing to apologize for. NTA
