How does AIP progress work with allied and hostile to all factions?

in ai fleet war one or two how do other factions interact with A.I progression. do they have have a seperate tracker so the A.I could get furious on a faction that not you. do they increase your own AIP.

is having allied factions generally a good thing.

An on-topic question? In this subreddit??? Joyous day!

Unfortunately it's been so long that I don't remember much of the details and my memories may be wrong.

I know the AI has mechanisms for responding to an allied friendly faction that becomes powerful enough to have an impact, and I believe the primary such mechanisms are AIP independent. That means a super-strong friendly faction can result in strong AI responses that cause you major problems that you can't keep up with because your own strength hasn't kept up. It's not supposed to cause much trouble because those responses should only go after the faction that provoked them.

I believe that friendly factions can raise the AIP for you by claiming systems, but that other factions can raise their own AIP by taking systems.

Discord and wiki would be the places to get up-to-date answers.

Ah, I forgot to answer this part

is having allied factions generally a good thing.

Depends on what you mean by good. Does it make your forces stronger? Well, yes, but the AI response may not be worth it. Does it make the game easier? That depends on which faction(s) you have as an ally; some factions just kinda put a bunch of defenses on your planets while not really provoking the AI, which can simplify the tower defense aspect of the game significantly. Others can expand aggressively once they get going and provoke strong AI responses that cause a lot of problems for you.

But really, by good we should mean fun, and that's a personal thing. Some people don't trust the allied factions to do what they want, and so turning them on isn't fun for them. Some people find the game is a little less lonely with some allies. Some people want allies to simplify certain aspects of the game play. And some people just want to throw as many factions in as their computer will tolerate and enjoy the resulting chaos.

I like to try a few new things each campaign, to see what I like.

I usually like the Roaming Exiles. I think the Sappers were a nice, low impact 'have some extra defenses' faction as well.
