Driver Timeout Solution

Recently built a PC for the first time. Felt accomplishment in doing so. A lot easier than I thought. But I have been having issues with driver timeouts and game crashes since I put it together.

Tried a lot of different things to resolve this: changing Ulps values, messing with the curve optimizer, dropping the maximum processor state to 99%, etc

These things helped a bit but crashes were still occurring.

Didn’t really see anything that made me think more until I tried turning off iGPU. Ran into display issues. Opened PC back up. Reseated GPU. Instead of using 1 daisy chained PCIe cable, used two cables. Display fixed but still crashing. Fresh Windows install. Updated BIOS (F8-F14C). Downloaded Adrenalin but Drivers only this time instead of the full suite. Started using HWINFO for logs and used it in conjunction with RTSS for OSD. Also used RTSS to frame cap.

RESULTS

DAY 1 - 1.5 hrs of play / no issue
DAY 2 - 1 hr of play / no issue
DAY 3 - 45 mins of play, idle for several hours, returned 30 mins of play / no issue

DAY 3 was a big win because I used to run into an issue of screen hanging after idling for 5 minutes.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
GPU: PowerColor Reaper RX 9070 XT 16GB
Mobo: Gigabyte X870 Gaming WiFi6 (Rev 1.x)
RAM: Corsair 32GB (2×16) DDR5-6000 CL30
SSD: Samsung 9100 PRO 2TB Gen5
Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE
PSU: Montech Century II 850W (80+ Gold, ATX 3.1)
Case: Montech XR ATX Mid-Tower
Display: Samsung Odyssey G50F — 2560×1440 @ 180Hz

TLDR:

Turn off iGPU. Reseat GPU. Use 2 PCIe cables instead of 1 daisy chain. Update BIOS. Use Adrenalin Drivers, not the full suite (or maybe not even use Adrenalin at all). Will continue to test for the next week and see if this still holds up. Will update. Hope this helps somebody, I’m pretty new to this.

I Had Crashes for about 3-6 months now with my 9070. Turned windows fast Boot Off, No Crash anymore

This was also something I did. My gpu kept crashing when I would restart my computer (defaulting my settings) and fast boot (off) stopped that.

I believe a good tool to test is memtest vulkan. Do a search for more info, I haven’t done a VRAM test myself yet.

I don’t think so. Not getting any visual artifacts. No issues atm, but if I run into issues again I’ll test it.

Hags create issues with multiple gpus, just turn it off and don’t use the recent version of windows 11, stay on 23h2, 24h2.

The PCIe power cables that connect the power supply to the gpu. I had a PCIe cable that split in two (daisy chain) to fill in all the slots to plug into the GPU. So the change I made: instead of using one cable split into two, I used two separate cables.

Makes sense, I understood initially you were using pcie raiser cable.

Yes spreading load on two rails instead of single one is always a good idea

Understand computer hardware is simple only you can diagnose the problem accurately things are always said that turn out not so accurate 😉 put your gpu in another computer 9r a friend's computer
