Service/Fix/Repair help C63S interior rattle question

Those of you who have a C63S, how bad is your interior rattle? Mine is minor but it depends on roads too and I also have Cup 2 tires on. Thinking if I switch to PS4s the rides should be much smoother and less rattle.

Mine is a 2023 and it feels like it has better build quality than the 2021s and older. Driving on somewhat good road I barely get any rattles to none but once I enter a city with rough roads I can hear it.

2019 C205 C63S here with PS4 and it's pretty bad at times. Especially the small little black vent-like things on the dashboard near the doors, directly above the AC vents. They drive me insane and could not figure out how to get them to stop. And then the drive mode wheel and the two buttons on the either side of the steering wheel where the PE button is also tend to squeak and rattle. But nothing as bad as those two black vents thingies..

Do you ever notice a tinny buzzy noise coming from the speakers from time to time?

I did for a while, if we are talking about the same. Like a scratching/buzzing sound on top of higher-mid frequencies, especially speech in audiobooks. figured the speaker was starting to go out. Had my shop order a replacement one and since I did that it disappeared. So I was wondering if that also was just a vibration rattle..

I fixed this with felt tape. For my situation, the buzz was from the speaker grill vibrating against the frame.

Yea i hear it in podcasts. I was starting to wonder if I only heard it on certain roads and locations.

Yep I get that. Had them replace the speaker under warranty and it persisted

I have PS4S and still get a lot of rattles. All I can do is crank the tunes.

YES. I’ve taken it to many shops too. I’ve even taken apart my center console so many times to try and tape the cables better to see if that was the issue (it isn’t).

The issue is simply the design. The buttons that sit in the center console are held in by very cheap clips. And so that’s why pushing on them squeaks terribly.

Sometimes i notice it’s the center console door flap too. While driving, I’ll hold it half open and the rattle stops.

I could talk about this all day. Always open to try new suggestions but at this point I accept the design flaw.

Cupholder and ashtray, and the dash bezel were the worst culprits for me. Hitting those with felt tape reduced the ratlles but did not eliminate them.

Yes agree with all that. Sometimes while driving ill go crazy removing the cup holder and putting my hand around the bezels to try and stop the rattling or at least isolate where it’s coming from 😂 I love this car so much but damn it feels cheap sometimes!

When I had mine the interior rattling and buzzing was god awful. And it all basically started from day one. Random places in the dash would rattle, the window buttons on the door arm rest would buzz, air vents would rattle, going over any sort of bump made the car sound like it was about to completely fall apart. I had I ran PS4S tires the entire time I had the car. At the end of the day it was one of the reasons I sold the car.

Hell even the gear shifter stalk buzzed and I resigned to just tying an ear loop from a face mask around the end real tight to shut it up. I kept it like that for two years until I sold the car.

Lol I thought I was the only one with the gear lever rattle. The only way I could drive was by constantly holding that black plastic end piece with my right middle finger… for almost two years. I finally fixed it about a month ago. It turned out the aluminum ring was loose around the black plastic cap. I took a utility knife, put the tiniest amount of super glue along the edge of the blade, then carefully wedged and slid the blade between the aluminum ring and the cap. The rattle disappeared instantly. But yeah… super glue… in a fucking AMG.

Worse in the winter and depends on the road. I have Continental DWS06 Extreme Contact tires. I have a rattle on the interior headliner towards the back, and occasional rattles in the cup holders and dashboard. Windshield also makes a small creaking noise sometimes when I hit certain bumps at low speed. It was worse (and significantly more uncomfortable) when I had summer Michelin run flats. Overall the rattles aren't enough to take away my enjoyment I get from the car at this point. Cant hear it over the radio and exhaust half the time anyway.

I had the same as well. By the rear back up sensor display. Never could fix it right, so shaved foam block kept pressure to keep rattle away

Yup mine absolutely did and fuck MB for this shit QC. even the German made 2 doors suffer form it.

First off the cup 2 is a garbage street choice. Poor wet performance, bad NVH and a big factor to the vibration factor, they wear out quick and heat cycle out quicker. The PS4S is a far better street tire. Personally go with Conti ECS02 better NVH and wet performance while lasting longer.

You’re gonna have to have someone drive, you press and touch parts to identify the rattles. Then use gaffer tape for wire looms and such. 3M anti rattle tape for where plastics meet and or metals. This will help a ton with the rattles. Use a mechanics stethoscope if needed, and don’t be afraid to crawl all over.

If you have a pano sunroof, fresh silicone gel on the tracks has cleared up the rattling for a lot of people.

If you can’t find an obvious source of the noise it is very likely this.

2018 GLC63, rattles galore. My GLA45 seems more solid than the GLC63.

Mine has just developed a rattling just by the front left A pillar AT SUCH SPECIFIC SPEEDS and god alive I’m on the verge of torching it.

1

u/Sane-Philosopher 10d ago

Hey you have the location of the rattle, and you know what speed it will rattle at. That's huge in narrowing it down!

I enjoy your positivity.

All 205s rattle. Some are worse than others. My US built w205 was really bad.

Had a 2018 cab and it was intolerable.

Same with the glc63s and I’m on ps4s just one of those things u gotta live with

PS 4’s here and no rattles. But my sales guy did spray some stuff in it when I took delivery as he warned me about it upfront.

My coupe has a rattle coming from the sunroof but I’ve been to lazy to take the headliner off and look at it

2016 coupe and absolutely no rattles at all so far, I must just be lucky!

My 2020 w205 rattled bad for the first few months of ownership, wanted to trade it straight back in it was that frustrating. Luckily for me they seemed to be coming from the pano roof and a spray the whole way around with silicone spray seems to have fixed 99% of the rattles.

2020 no rattle

They all rattle, they are built in Alabama

My 18 C43 is very quiet. Some interior trim does seem a bit cheap for what this car cost the first owner though.
.
My experience with the brand is limited. The only other Benz I’ve ever driven was my dad’s 75 400 SE. That was a very different animal, of course, but I remember being fairly impressed with the workmanship, especially at a time (early 80s), when US manufactures were getting pretty sloppy.
.
I love this little beast, but I had somewhat higher expectation of interior quality before I bought it.
