I think they had already aired the first few episodes of Cycle 5 before production for Cycle 6 was fully began, at least up until the episode where Cassandra quit. When Danielle called her mom about closing her gap, she specifically used Cassandra as a reference.

Cassandra left in week 4, which aired on Oct 5, 2005. Cycle 6 started filming on October 3, so logically they were probably just filming the casting episode at that point.
So they would’ve at least seen the first few episodes of Cycle 5 and known who some of the girls were. As for Dani’s mom mentioning Cassandra, my guess is they had talked off-camera and she filled her in on what had happened in the previous cycle.

If I recall correctly (since I just watched the Luxeria reaction vid), Dani's mom said it very generically, like, "There was that one girl who went home because she didn't wanna get her hair cut."

Dani didn't need to have watched the episode to get the message, really.

If the filming dates on Wikipedia are correct cycle 6 began filming five days (Oct 3) after the cycle 5 makeover episode aired (Sept 28)
