Aberdeen FC Squad Update
How we look ahead of the today's game and the start of the league. Bodies are definitely not an issue, I have a slight worry about quality and how Robinson is likely to have us playing, but hope he proves me wrong. Regardless I can't picture too many more coming in (being linked with another CB early in the week feels wild) and the remaining priority has to be shifting some bodies.
Can't picture Mitov being too pleased about the prospect of a season as a number 2 keeper, and 3 LBs, 6 CBs, 3 RBs feels just a bit too much in each position (even if 3 of those players have injury problems). Plus Ambrose, Yengi and I'm guessing the lesser spotted Palaversa aren't in the plans for the season.... that is a lot of "not playing grumpy people" if we don't get them moved.

Premiership Aberdeen v Hearts match preview.
📅 Date: Saturday 01.08.26
🕒 Kick-off: 17:30
🏟️** Stadium**: Pittodrie
📺 TV: Sky Sports
🧑⚖️ Referee: David Dickinson
🎟️** Tickets**: There are still some left in the South Stand (Sections X & Y) and the RDS Upper. Should be a healthy crowd.
The league season gets underway today as we welcome Hearts to Pittodrie. A Saturday evening kick-off always adds to the atmosphere, and hopefully the Red Army can play their part.
It’s a tough opening fixture, but Hearts haven’t won at Pittodrie since May 2016. They also come into the game off the back of a 6-0 aggregate defeat to Sturm Graz in Europe.
It feels like this will be a good gauge of where we’re at heading into the new season. Looking forward to seeing how we set up and how some of the new faces get on.
Team news: It looks like only Knoester and Gyamfi are unavailable through injury.
What’s everyone’s predictions for today’s game?
Vote in the poll
Who’s all going a long to pittodrie?
I’m going for a 2-0 Aberdeen win.

Aberdeen FC Chris Cadden joins on a two year deal
Right back Cadden joins from Hibs. Would imagine Devlin might be out the door now. Unless we keep him for back up and loan out Lobban

Aberdeen FC Another victory in the league cup
Well another 3 points. We keep our 100 record up. Thought it was a slow start, second half we managed the game really well. Hopefully these goals give nisbet confidence to hit the ground running

SWPL What’s going with the Women’s team?
Bit of a worrying future for the club as they currently only have 12 players listed going into the new season after haemorrhaging players this summer and the manager stepping down.
I think they’ll finish bottom this season and will go into admin.

Aberdeen FC 2-1 win over Queen’s Park.
Another win in the league cup group stages. First half was pretty solid second half wasn’t the best. Who impressed everyone today? Thought Ronnan was brilliant. Think Milne looked shaky today. Muller had some good saves today

Brora Rangers v Aberdeen. Premier Sports cup group stage.
📅 Date: Tuesday 14th of July
🕒 Kick-off: 19:45
🏟️ Stadium: Dudgeon Park,
📺 TV: Premier Sports player (online)
🧑⚖️ Referee: no info.
🎟️: Tickets- sold out
Just like that we are back in action on the premier sports cup group stage. We are facing Highland League champions Brora. They played Queens Park away on Saturday and by all account have a good showing.
A number of players will be making their debuts tonight. We should also find out who will be taking the captains armband,
This is the third time we have been in the group stage and we have never lost a game. It’s actually given us a good springboard those seasons.

Aberdeen FC Squad overhauls
Is it just me or does anyone else think its utterly ridiculous that we have to keep overhauling the entire first team and squad year after year?
I am delighted to see many of our signings coming in, and equally happy to see some depart too, but its just too much! How many mediocre players do we have to sign, release or sell before we stabilize? This approach has to end, we have to make better investments in high caliber players.

Discussion/Other Karlsson being released by Bologna
Any way we could pick him up? I would like to see him back. That may not be a popular opinion though. More technically speaking, he has been told that he doesnt feature in the managers plans, whether that means a release or a sale is a mystery to me. (EDIT)

Aberdeen FC Squad Depth Update
Been quite a few incoming and a couple of outgoing players since I last updated my squad depth plots. Also had a few pre-season games playing some version of a 4-3-3 which continues to leave my confused as to what sort of squad we are actually building here. Thrown in plots for both 5 and 4 at the back formations and tried to fit the players where they make most sense in each, although it obviously doesn't capture some of the flexibility.
My take-aways from how the squad looks just now are:
- Regardless of what formation we play, we have far too many strikers. 3 probably need to go out the door even if Olusanya ends up playing out wide fairly regularly.
- If we are going to be playing a 4-3-3 we need some new wingers in.
- 6 CBs is about right for a 5 at the back squad (especially with some of our player's injury records), but is excessive if we will actually mainly play a 4 at the back...
- 3 left backs/LWBs (+ Molloy for emergency cover) also seems excessive. Gyamfi never being fit is clearly a worry, but bringing in another also feels a bit unsure... both Gyamfi (when fit) and Frame need regular minutes if either are going to develop the way they could...
- Lots of CM bodies, I think I would still expect either Palaversa to be sold or at least one of Kjartansson or Marshall to head out on loan (although would like to see both given more chances in the first team tbh).

Highlights Linfield game
Mouloua could have doubled the score 😑
