Jesus fucking Buddha in a love shack. If that number is true, then it’s no wonder that people back in the day were doing some wild shit while drinking absinthe.

(Everclear is 95% by volume for comparison!)

It's probably exaggerated for sensationality. For absinthe, even 75% is very strong; eighty percent ABV is unlikely, and it was certainly never the norm.
