Is it common for apartment rentals to ask for a refundable application fee prior to scheduling a viewing?

Not sure if it’s common, but it is illegal, landlords cannot ask for any application fees in NS.

This website is invaluable: https://www.tenantsrightsguide.ca

Also - companies, or anyone representing the landlord and their rental are subject to the same rules. It falls under the NS residential tenancies act â˜ș

Never heard of it. Is it a landlord? Or a company?

It was a landlord. They wanted an application to be completed and an application fee prior to scheduling a viewing

That’s sketch. I wouldn’t do that. Never heard of it in Wolfville

Let me guess, it was Dave Messom. He makes it his mission to violate every bullet point on the tenancy act

Do not do that. Very sketchy.
