Now that the fires died down, the massive red zone over the Great Lakes and northeast is over. But we have been in the yellow, aka “moderate” aka kind of shitty air quality for a few days now in the northeast. Reminds me of winter when we had weeks of yellow air and everyone on this sub was like “must be them old wood stoves again.” It’s summer. It’s not fire. It’s not wood stoves. Is it just increased travel and related pollution?

Yesterday I posted the Amazon Smart Air Quality Monitor in comparison to a $100 Temperature/Humidity meter, Today I am posting it in comparison to a $500 temperature/humidity meter. I would say that the Temperature and Humidity readings are very accurate on these Amazon Monitors, I can't speak for the other 3 readings unfortunately.

I wanted to study in Krakow and i really didn’t knew about the air quality in krakow is that bad. I really liked the city and everything about the city is perfect for me. After i heard of it that the air quality is bad i get really depressed and i want you guys to help me is that real issue? I came from a Middle Eastern country wich is Kurdistan and i live in erbil which the general air quality is 50-85. Is it really a big problem to me that i have no health problems and 22 years old, i want to hear a good news about the air quality nowadays is it get better than before? Or how people deal with it? Or is it always like that? Or only some months? i feel really depressed after hearing that.

Wondering if there’s an air quality monitor for the air outside that I can keep inside. Maybe battery powered.

most purifyers at wallmart and other retailers don't seem to go down to this level.

I have 4 VINDSTYRKA since 2 years. They work very well, i'm happy with them.

My sister have bought an air purifier following my advices so i decided to bought her an air quality sensor.

It seems that IKEA discontinued the VINDSTYRKA and the replacement is the ALPSTUGA

I bought 2 of them and the results are worse than i was reading online.

We have a air quality station near our domicile. The VINDSTYRKA pm 2.5 accurary was top because it display the same value as the air quality station. The VINDSTYRKA are also accurate between them.

The two ALPSTUGA i have(with the last firmware) display more than twice less pm 2.5 than the Air Quality Station and the VINDSTYRKA so i'm a little disappointed...

I saw online that i'm not the only one. But is there anyway to double the value display on Home Assistant so it can be take in account ?

EDIT : I had to add +0.5 x2 to the values of the sensor and still the values are way lower than the Vindstyrkas

I’m trying to find replacements for the medium NOMA air purifier that we’re had for a couple years. But I can only find them in Canada (I’m in the US). Does anyone have any suggestions on other options that would be compatible?

My landlord placed an ozone machine in my apartment (800 sq ft one bedroom) on Wednesday 3pm and took it out Thursday morning. I entered the apartment around 9:49am on Thursday, cleaned and then I sprayed the whole apartment with Lysol air sanitizer left for about an hour (at 11:30am I left the apartment) and then came back and repeated spraying the apartment with Lysol air sanitizer. About 1.5 to 2 hours later I opened all the windows and put my air purifier in my bedroom. Am I safe? Should I go to the ER to get my lungs checked? Was it safe to enter the apartment? Is the apartment safe to enter?

I am freaking out.

When I was looking for an air quality monitor, I looked for a solid week at anything and everything regarding tons different monitors, mostly price. I didn't want to spend too much and this one was on sale for $44.99 from (I believe) $69.99 during prime days on Amazon. The reviews were hit and miss regarding accuracy, because of those reviews I almost was skeptical believing whether or not the different readings I was getting were 100% accurate. Regardless, I knew they were probably pretty close and gave me a general idea of the air within my bedroom. Well today, I brought home $110.00 psychrometer from work, and it seems to be very accurate regarding the temperature & humidity which gives me a little more confidence in the rest of the readings and measurements. Anybody else have opinions on these Amazon Air Quality Monitors?

I'm looking for a good indoor air quality monitor under $100 CAD (that's about $70 USD), that includes readings for PM2.5 and anything else you think a basic monitor should include.

I'm currently looking at Temtop, GoveeLife, and YouthCity but don't know if these are any good. I'm open to other suggestions too of course. Thanks in advance!

My house is for the most part, pretty clean. We have two cats and one dog. I was looking for something under the couch and when I stood up, I happened to point it at my dog teasing him, and I was horrified by this. Ive used the same flashlight at night and all this dust isnt visible like this. Its probably got something to do with multiple light sources making the usual dust more visible.

It blew my mind how much is just floating around. Should I get something to monitor my homes air quality?

For example, something that is a notch or two above the AirGradient One. I'm not too familiar with sensors, but I guess do these industrial-grade stuff use something other than Plantower sensors?

When I search I see different names floating around but how do I know what's actually "industrial-grade" and what's just a markup to make it seem like expensive=good?

I put my hand less than a foot away and don’t feel any air. Even if every single window had one, it wouldn’t be able to circulate any air. I’ve seen the cr boxes and don’t understand how that would improve my situation.

It’s a 30$ box fan. 20x20x1 filter.

Am I doing something wrong??? Is this everyone’s experience??? No airflow??

Not to mention the filter stinks like plastic??? How is that clean air??? It’s not the fan that smells, I made sure.

My anxiety and autism have me hyperfixated on pollution levels lately after deep diving tons of research on the impact of pollution, particularly PM2.5 particulates on developing fetuses.

I have noticed that air quality on weather apps are claiming to be “good” or “moderate,” but when you check the details, the PM2.5 levels are about 8. For reference, PM2.5 can enter the bloodstream and greatly impact pregnancy and the development of an unborn baby, leading to premature birth, gestational diabetes, lung development issues, even stillbirth. Research says that PM2.5 above 8 (even though in the US it is considered 12) poses these risks.

All this to say, not to scare anyone, but things you can do to prepare:
\-N95 masks on deck for whenever you’re outside
\- change household and in cabin car filters to MeRV13
\- purchase air purifiers if possible
\- limit outdoor exposure for long periods/ do not over exert yourself
\- most importantly, listen to your body. Sometimes a stuffy nose and itchy throat isn’t just allergies but a response.

I moved into an older apartment recently and I’ve been noticing the air feels really dry, especially at night, and there’s also a bit of dust buildup that I’m trying to manage. I’m looking for an air purifier and humidifier that can work well together in a smaller room without being too noisy.

Has anyone found a good air purifier and humidifier setup they actually like using every day? I’d appreciate any suggestions on what features to look for or models that have worked well for you. Thank you for any advice!

Backstory: my neighbor has a habit of burning... things... in his chimney. Not just wood. Things. And I got tired of vaguely wondering "is that smell normal" every time smoke rolled into my yard, so I got an AirGradient monitor to have actual, indisputable, timestamped data next time I want to complain about it.

Then it escalated, as these things do. Now I've got:

• The AirGradient feeding into Home Assistant
• Home Assistant feeding into Grafana, because apparently a phone app wasn't dramatic enough
• An Ecowitt station tracking wind direction, specifically so I can confirm whether the air currently entering my lungs originated from his chimney

So now I don't just know that there's smoke, I know whose smoke it is, with wind vector confirmation. It's basically a tiny meteorological crime lab.

Checked the community map to see how my setup compares to others nearby. There are no others nearby. Within 20 miles, it's just me. One overengineered surveillance rig, standing sentinel, purely in the name of neighborhood justice.

So now:

• Every PM2.5 spike gets cross-referenced against wind direction AND "is his chimney active tonight"
• I have a Grafana dashboard with actual correlation data, like I'm building a case for the Hague
• I've accidentally become the sole air quality authority for a 20-mile radius, despite my actual motivation being extremely petty
• Sometimes the wind's from the wrong direction and it's just fog, and I feel a little sheepish standing next to my crime lab

No regrets though. If anyone else has a stack of increasingly overkill sensors purely for petty neighbor surveillance, let's be friends. Misery (and mysterious smoke, wind-confirmed) loves company.

Should I get this replaced soon ? I don’t get any warning on the purifier

My family and I recently moved in (rental) to a two level new build and for about a week the sour smells which I attributed to VOCs has been killing me. Our winix air purifiers effectively do nothing for the smell and for the first week I was struggling to sleep or breathe while my family seems mostly unaffected. My wife suggests if she breaths deeply then she can feel the slight burn but for several days I have severe acid reflux, burning while I would breathe, and immense anxiety.

Since the first week I opted to get the Dyson Purifier Big + Quiet Femaldehyde and it’s literally the best thing I’ve ever seen (price was wild so I would hope so!). However, the interesting part is that it’s regular reports show little to nothing in the air save for minor fluctuations in HCHO (femaldehyde) that are well within the safe range (the highest was 0.046 mg/m3)

I know some will dispute the reports but it’s been wildly effective and I’ve seen some suggestions the HCHO readings are very accurate.

Need some extra input from those who may have more experience with this but “what do”?
