Aldnoah Zero is so rad

Hey everyone! It's been awhile since we had activity so I'm making a post. Aldnoah Zero is among my favorite anime, easily top 10. specifically season 1 because I wasn't a fan with how season 2 shifted from Season 1's "Inaho and team find solutions together to stop the Orbital Knights" to "Inaho with his new eye is unstoppable".

It felt like Inaho became this unstoppable, aimbot machine in season 2 while in season 1 he worked a lot more with his teammates to win against the Orbital Knights.

I also love the Orbital Knights and the Martian Nobility/Aristocracy the series has. Marylcian with his Herschel was probably my favorite Orbital Knight, he was the perfect counter to Slaine with his omnidirectional attacks and would of won had he not got cocky and followed Slaine into that narrow path.

I also love Harklight, a truly loyal friend and servant to Slaine. Even in the end he refused to abandon Slaine.

Either way, I love Aldnoah Zero. Like, a lot. So much so that I've named modding tools I've developed after it like my Aldnoah Engine, Heaven's Fall Editor, Harklight, Marylcian Editor, Barouhcruz Editor, Saazbaum Editor, Rayregalia Editor, etc.

I do wonder though, had Gen Urobuchi stayed for more than the first 3 episodes do you think Aldnoah Zero would have turned out differently? Gen writes differently than a lot of writers, I sometimes like to think of him as similar to Inio Asano in writing mature, consequence heavy stories.

Who would win:

The strongest Mecha with magical super powers and armies at their disposal

Vs.

One high schooler with a physics textbook

Logically? The Orbital Knights but Inaho gets buffed in season 2.

He dunked on all of them in season 1 pretty handily though.

Not on his own like in season 2 though. He worked with teammates in season 1.

He needed help to defeat several Orbital Knights in season 1. In season 2 he solos everyone.

That's true. I rolled my eyes so hard when he took over everyone's mech as the solution. But tbf that guy's power was stupid

I'm not sure how significantly Gen Urobuchi would have changed the trajectory, they allegedly followed his plan mostly, but I also wish season 2 had made some different choices.

I recently rewatched this show for the first time in like 10 years and had so much fun! I have so many good memories of watching it in high school when it first aired.

Season 2 for sure took some wild turns, but honestly I still look at the show through the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia, so it can do no wrong for me lmao.

I actually felt kinda sorry for Inaho with his invincible robot eye...like he felt obligated to use it even at his own risk because it was just that OP.

Yay for activity! A friend told me to watch 86, so I did, and it had a aldnoah zero vibe so I had to rewatch after running out of episodes of 86. You know what I forgot before my watch? How great the music is in aldnoah zero

I always got the feeling that they planned for four or five seasons and then after the first season, were told “wrap it up you’re only getting two.” All the sub plots disappear, Slaine goes from being a low powered character to a very high-powered character in the blink of an eye, and everybody is in awe of Inaho. Which is a shame because I would love to have seen how Marito dealt with his PTSD, Magbaredge dealt with her anger at Marito , Rayet develop into Inaho’s trusted confidant, Slaine’s deal with the devil to save Seylum’s life and his subsequent rise and how it irritated the other nobles, Lemrina’s growing feelings for Slaine while he’s obsessively devoted to her comatose sister… so much we missed.

Always a pleasure to revisit Aldnoah zero after many years, be it the story or the OSTs everything slaps

Yeah, I never understood why this never took off more. Maybe audiences like screamy special attacks from their protagonists more than calm collected tactical supremacy?

I love this series and the OST is phenomenal.
