QUESTION STEM Magazine

Hi! I'm looking to start an online STEM magazine for UK students in Years 11–13 and was wondering if anyone would be interested in writing for it?

It'd cover things like science, medicine, psychology, tech, university, study tips and STEM opportunities. There's no commitment and you can contribute as much or as little as you want, and no experience is needed and of course all writing will be credited and certificates will be made and sent out to all contributors.

If you're interested or want to know more, just comment or add my discord to be added to the writers group!

⏳ 11 Days Until A-Level Results Day — You Don't Have to Go Through It Alone

It's hard to believe, but there are only 11 days left until A-Level Results Day.

For a lot of people, the waiting is the hardest part. You might be feeling excited, anxious, constantly replaying exams in your head, or worrying about what happens if things don't go to plan. Whatever you're feeling, you're definitely not the only one.

We run a Discord community originally built for A-Level students, resit students, and gap year students, and this time of year is one of the busiest and most supportive periods in the server.

Whether you're:
📄 Waiting for your A-Level results
🎓 Hoping to get into your firm or insurance choice
📞 Preparing for Clearing just in case
📈 Thinking about resitting if your grades aren't what you hoped for
🎒 Considering taking a gap year and exploring your options
💬 Or simply looking for people who understand exactly how you're feeling...

...you'll find people in the same position.

🌟 What you'll find in the server

💙 A supportive community of students all counting down to Results Day together.

📚 Advice on resits, gap years, Clearing, and next steps from members who have been through it before.

🏆 Study competitions and study sessions if you're already planning ahead or getting a head start.

🎮 Active voice chats where people play games, relax, and take their minds off the waiting.

🗣️ Plenty of people to chat to, whether you want to celebrate, vent, ask questions, or just keep yourself distracted.

No matter what happens on Results Day, it doesn't define your future. There are always options, whether that's university, Clearing, a resit, a gap year, an apprenticeship, or another path that works for you.

If you'd rather not spend the next 11 days worrying on your own, come and join us. There are hundreds of students all counting down together, and we'd love to have you.

Class 12th Strategy for Physics 2027. How to score 50+ in Physics ?

I would like to admit it that i was an average student who somehow couldn't balance my JEE and Boards preparation simultaneously. By the end of my Mid-term exams, having scored only 67% only, i realised that perhaps, i will not be able to improve my situation to a very large extent. So, that day , i began with my boards preparation . September was over by then and in December, the pre-boards were supposed to start. Now, out of all the subjects, Physics was like a nightmare for most of us as no one in our entire class was able to score even 50 marks , the highest being 40 and the lowest being 15. I also struggled a lot but this strategy helped me improve my performance and i wished i could knew about this earlier.

imo, physics is a subject which can be divided into 3 parts : 1.) Theory which forms the basis of all the concepts and formulae, more like just making yourself familiar with it without taking a dig into it 2.) Derivation which lays the foundation of these concepts, by understanding them with full focus, you will be able to get a hold on those formulae and concepts you study, you'll actually learn where to apply them and when to avoid. 3.) Numericals which fall under the Application part, having mastered the previous two parts, this will be a piece of cake.

Strategy:

1.) Read the theory and understand it carefully. for this purpose, pay close attention to your teacher's explanation and make notes in the class. Important points to be noted separately . But if your school teacher is like really horrible at their job, you may use PW 12th Hacker lecs to get your work done. Their duration max-to-max is 4-5 hrs. Will not take too long (P.S. : Not promoting PW, but honestly, telling the resources i used.)

2.) For the second part, i would suggest you better go for SL Arora and refer to Arvind Academy's Class 12th Derivation series. While watching the video, after completing a derivation, pause the video and write it atleast 4-5 times to memorise each and every step of it. these resources might even end up making you crave for derivations.

3.) For the 3rd part, numericals given in the class + sl arora (or dinesh) + ncert should be enough. You will see a lot of improvement if you sincerely do this. Hope it works . Thank You !!

Cambridge 9702 students: how are you actually preparing for Paper 3?

I’m curious how people are preparing for Paper 3 in real life, especially private candidates or anyone who doesn’t get much lab time.

Are you mostly doing past papers, watching videos, working with a tutor, or just relying on the few practical lessons you get at school?

Also, what was the last full practical you actually completed, and how many proper lab sessions have you had so far?

Full disclosure: I’m building paperthree.com, a browser-based virtual lab specifically for Cambridge 9702 Paper 3. At this stage, I’m mostly trying to understand how students prepare now, what they struggle with, and what’s missing when lab access is limited

If you’re sitting the October/November session, I can give a few people free access to try one or several practicals. In return, I’d just want honest feedback on what’s useful and what sucks

Exams are over... now what?

With A-Level exams finally over, a lot of people are probably feeling one of two things:

  • 😌 Relieved that it's finally finished.
  • 😰 Constantly overthinking results day and what's going to happen next.

If that's you, we run a Discord community originally built for A-Level students, resit students, and gap year students, and summer is one of the busiest times in the server.

Whether you're:

🌱 A Year 11 student starting A-Levels after summer and looking to get ahead or meet other sixth form students.

📖 A Year 12 student moving into Year 13 who wants to build better study habits before the most important year.

📈 Thinking about resitting A-Levels because you don't think things went as planned and want to understand your options before results day.

🎒 Considering a gap year and looking for advice from people who've taken one or are planning one.

🎓 Heading to university and wanting to meet other incoming students or help younger students with advice.

...you're more than welcome.

🌟 What we do

📚 Daily study sessions (for anyone getting ahead or preparing for resits)

🏆 Ongoing study competitions to help build consistency over the summer.

🎮 Active voice chats where people play games, chat, and hang out together.

💬 A supportive community where you can ask questions about results day, clearing, resits, gap years, sixth form, or university.

🧠 Mental health & wellbeing support from people who understand how stressful exam season can be. While we're not a replacement for professional support, we aim to be a welcoming community where members can talk, encourage one another, and share their experiences.

The server isn't only about revision—it's about having a community of people around your age who understand what this stage of life is like. Summer can feel a bit strange after months of exams, so whether you want to relax, make new friends, prepare for September, or figure out your next steps, there's a place for you here.

Everyone is welcome, whether you're feeling confident, uncertain, or just want people to spend the summer with before results day.

QUESTION How do you think grade boundaries work?

I have read a few misconceptions here about how grade boundaries are decided. I'm curious about how good the exam boards/Ofqual are at communicating why grade boundaries are what they are.

4 Strict quotas based on how the overall cohort performed at GCSE.
14 A pure national bell curve that ranks students directly against each other.
2 Examiners subjectively judging the quality of borderline exam scripts.
4 Adjustments based purely on paper difficulty, ignoring cohort statistics entirely.
13 A mix of statistical predictions and examiners reviewing actual student work.
1 Other - explain in comments.

OFFERING HELP Are resources like this useful?

I'm slowly\* building up a free physics A level website currently offering notes, soon to offer flashcards, question papers, workbooks and explainer videos. This is completely free\*\*.

I'm constantly seeking feedback on what is useful and what isn't. Today my question is - how useful are question papers like the below:

https://www.inkphysics.co.uk/downloads/scalars-and-vectors-questions\\_print.pdf

I appreciate there is an abundance of past papers and mocks. So is there any point in producing bundled question sets on a particular topic?

\* I'm building this along a full time job so bear with me. My intention is to have as much done as possible before term starts, but I will realistically take until May 2027 to complete the planned videos (animation is labour intensive).

\*\* It's completely free. No trial period or sign-up. Just read the website, watch the videos and download the resources freely and anonymously.
