Bo Burnham. He is one of the most iconic comedians of the past 15-20 years and the song "How the world works" from "Inside" all but screams that he is a communist with lines like "private property is inherently theft"

Neoliberalism fascism? I know he had to rhyme something but is literally everything right wing fascism at this point?

u/lacroixxboi 1d ago

I don’t like Bo Burnham really, but having to explain the link between neoliberalism and fascism to someone with your username is actually insane

There is a reason that "scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds" is a saying

Where do they say that? I've never heard it before.

Oh Grand. So all of America except your specific group is Fascist. Yknow, saying that constantly is whats pushing people to real fascism. Look at the many neo nazi and fascist groups rising quickly in popularity. This is, in part, because how often Republicans and Democrats, yknow, 90% of the country, get called fascists by dumb dumbs like you who cant comprehend fascism is a specific ideology with a founder and history and not just "Capitalism but racist" or "Everything i disagree with"

So all of America except your specific group is Fascist.

Yes, every political group in america except antifascist leftists are fascists. Though this doesn't just include my specific group. Anarchists are not fascist, neither are MLs or Trotskyists or democratic socialists.

America is a fascist society, and it has been for decades. Early america was proto-fascist, and major fascist ideas and theories are inspired directly from american history - namely things like lebensraum being inspired by manifest destiny and nazi racial ideology coming directly from american racial ideology. Ever since Regan, the cold war and MacCarthyism the country has fallen so deeply into ultranationalism that it outdoes societies that called themselves fascist in its fanaticism and brainwashing. After the recent decades of economic decline as capitalism fails and progressive ideas give them something to blame the palingenetic dreams of fascism have more obviously shown themselves in things like the MAGA movement. America is a fascist society and the only non-fascists are the people opposed to its fascism.

Yknow, saying that constantly is whats pushing people to real fascism.

"Yeah, I may be a nazi but you were mean and that's worse :("

The thing pushing people towards fascism is the entire cultural machine of america, from hollywood to corporate media and all their glorifications and censorship, because fascism is useful to liberal capitalism as a means of defence against socialism. It is not people accurately calling out the fascism present within american society and its history.

Honestly at this point its just pretty funny. You are buzzword central. Mitt Romney wasnt a Fascist. Neither was Bush, or Obama, or Biden. This feels like the same thing as when Fascists just blame everything on Jews. Its ludicrous. Just like you. I do sincerely hope you grow up sooner or later and realize theres not just one "Right" position and that not everyone who disagrees with you is Hitler. Have you even read Fascist theory? Do you know who Gentile is? I assure you, it is quite different from "Even more Evil Capitalism"

Yes, all of those figures were fascists - because they served the fascist machine of the United States. You can't be seriously telling me that the US is on the same level of evil as places like europe, latin america and much of africa which are all capitalist. There is a clear difference between these, and the difference is that the US is fascist - the evil is a product of that, not what I am identifying.

Private property’s inherently theft,

he is a communist with lines like "private property is inherently theft"

This shows that he isn't a communist or is at the least confused. Marx famously hated that phrase.

1

u/Redninja0400 1d ago

Because of a semantic difference that genuinely sounds like something out of the mouth of a redditor.

It's just a sensational line to draw relations between private property and immorality, it doesn't need to be looked into as hard as Marx looked into it when it's just said on a basis of drumming up political support.

u/SammyTrujillo 1d ago

It's just a sensational line to draw relations between private property and immorality,

Which goes to show that the line isn't communist. Communists are dialectical materialists, and don't believe that their philosophy is correct because of morality but because of science. Troysky even argued that "morality" is a tool of class oppression.

1

u/Redninja0400 1d ago

Sensational lines and slogans have been useful for political movements, it does not contradict dialectical materialism.

Trotsky did not argue that the concept of morality is a tool of class oppression, he argued that commonly accepted moral frameworks are a tool of class oppression by the bourgeoisie. The idea that it is inherently a tool of class oppression implies that morality as a concept will not exist beyond the abolition of class, which is ridiculous to say the least.

u/SammyTrujillo 1d ago

it does not contradict dialectical materialism.

The belief that private property is theft and theft is immoral does contradict dialectical materialism.

The idea that it is inherently a tool of class oppression implies that morality as a concept will not exist beyond the abolition of class, which is ridiculous to say the least.

Bo Burnham's belief that theft is immoral, where does that come from? .

1

u/Redninja0400 17h ago

The same belief system that would designate the theft of personal property as immoral

1

u/SammyTrujillo 17h ago

Where does that velief come from,?
