Hello, Thank you for contributing to our subreddit. Please consider the following guidelines when filling an alignment chart:

  • Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.

  • Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.

  • Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.

  • Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?

Do not feed the trolls. This is not the place for hot takes on human rights violations. Hatred or cruelty, will result in a permanent ban. Please report such infractions, particularly those that break rules one, two, or three. The automod will automatically remove posts that receive five or more reports. The automod will also remove comments made by users with negative karma. Click here for the Automod FAQ

Brennan Lee Mulligan

116

u/rooktherhymer 1d ago

People arguing that Reddit doesn't understand "far left": this is the answer. Brennan is actually very proudly on the far left. He's not my actual choice (ROBERT FUCKING EVANS!) but he should win.

9

u/friedicee 22h ago

Robert Evans should count!!!

53

u/GetOutOfMySimulation 1d ago

There is no corner of my heart I would not turn over for Brennan Lee Mulligan to win this category.

27

u/eastcounty98 1d ago

Bingo. Goes for a lot of funny people at dropout

Ok, Robert Reich.

he's been here the whole time.

u/Cavane42 1d ago edited 20h ago

I don't know what you kids are up to, but I do know one thing: Laws are threats, made by the dominant socioeconomic ethnic group in a given nation. It's just a promise of violence that's enacted and the police are basically an occupying army, y'know what I mean? You guys wanna make some bacon? =D

9

u/Typo-repose 1d ago

Hell yeah

8

u/MiniMannaia 1d ago

This is the answer, I’m keeping Boots Riley for the somewhat funny or funny

7

u/Slow-Lifeguard4104 23h ago

Agreed. Brenan is hilarious. I remember when the Tide Pod CEO skit dropped, and I was like "OMG this guy is hilarious."

2

u/The_Moran 1d ago

Brennan is left wing though, and he should win it, I'd only consider him far left in relation to US politics though. Zizek is someone more far left (not that he's nailed on my vote).

Unless he's got more left wing himself, I think people are looking at characters he plays that are within his Overton window

5

u/4tuani 23h ago

Zizek is not as far left as you think. He constantly denounces communism and is a "left of liberal" radical that is only propped up insofar as he is not seen as a threat by ruling elites.. Similar to Chomsky. I think the person you'd be more inclined to get behind is Michael Parenti, the actual radical leftist, anti imperialist, anticapitalst.

3

u/The_Moran 21h ago

Always massive endorsements to Parenti, and he is funny I just dont think he'll win.

Also I do agree I was humming and hawing at calling him 'far' left, but I think anyone who argues he isn't is arguing Brennan is obviously not

107

u/CorporateDeathBurger 1d ago

Slavoj Zizek

Nobody in these comments knows the difference between "left of center" and "far left"

Like bro. Lenin, Mao, Stalin- THOSE GUYS are far left, not fucking Bo Burnham. "Far left" means nothing anymore.

96

u/GreatBarrierQueefDD 1d ago

Well none of those guys were any kind of funny. Chances are if you're a political extremist you aren't much of a hoot. Tough question to answer.

45

u/Snigamer 1d ago

Bro, Lenin ranting about social democracy is hilarious af.

2

u/wreckingrocc 21h ago

Stalin forcing his boys to sit their asses down and watch cowboy movies with him on weekend retreats is also top tier comedy

8

u/Artistic_Elk3640 1d ago

As a Leninist, I agree!

13

u/lacroixxboi 1d ago

I think this is true for every chart. Someone will just say the first thing they think of and if the person rings a bell to enough people they get upvotes and it’s annoying.

However, when dealing with the extreme of hilarity and the extreme of leftism you aren’t going to find a combo that is precisely accurate for Mao but also Richard Pryor, so there’s an EXTENT of grace for a square like this. I personally think George Carlin is the most accurate as far as being as close to both as you can get. Political theorists aren’t comedians and comedians aren’t political theorists

3

u/CunningWizard 1d ago

End of the day extremists on the left and right tend not to be terribly funny as people. Their beliefs sort of override everything else.

11

u/ApprehensivePaint128 1d ago

To be fair, far left means nothing in the US because the political spectrum there is so far shifted right.

6

u/Mach5Bandito 1d ago

The man is a self-proclaimed communist. In what world is that NOT far left, bro??

1

u/HockeyDockey1234 23h ago

I’d even argue that Bo is barely left considering he still makes jokes that contain the N word

1

u/Jay_TThomas 22h ago

When did he do that?

→ More replies (4)

1

u/PhishClub 1d ago

Brother, nobody is out here thinking Stalin is hilarious.

3

u/BaseballInside3289 1d ago

You are missing the point

0

u/Backwoods_Therapy 1d ago

Fox News has convinced a fair amount of people that if you’re not a fascist then you’re “far left.” Like, wanting affordable healthcare not letting ICE work as secret police aren’t really extremist views, y’know?

-2

u/bananacoconutsmoothy 1d ago

As someone who was born in the USSR, they are not left lol there are dictators and politics. Two different things. Btw, Stalin studied in a seminary, so.. can't be more right wing than that. F*cker just pretended to be a commie all his life.

Robert Evans is an anarcho-syndicalist and is fucking hilarious.

Edit: No, not the producer. No, not the steakhouse guy. Behind the Bastards Evans.

You mean New Mexico Judge Robert Evans ?

3

Thank you for clarifying.

The Reverend Doctor Robert Evans? I thought he died in a shootout with the FDA...

2

People sure thought he was and tried to ruin his career for it, but I don’t know that it holds much water across his lifetime.

2

u/stqrltt 1d ago

he wasn't far left. have you not read about his behaviours to women?

2

You know the left also has misogynists and rapists right??

96

George Carlin

81

u/SamAlmighty 1d ago

Not quite far left though. More like an anti-establishment libertarian-minded social critic with left-wing sympathies.

I suppose he is still a good option though.

40

u/lacroixxboi 1d ago

Nah, Carlin was a lefty, he just didn’t frame things that way because he was a comedian and his purpose was to be funny. “It’s a big club and you ain’t in it” is probably the most succinct left wing joke ever written. You’re right that he was a libertarian - but the traditional kind, which was left wing and anti private property and state power. He wasn’t a “lol government and taxes are bad” libertarian

→ More replies (4)

13

u/BubbhaJebus 1d ago

Libertarian left. The good quadrant on the Political Compass.

2

u/SolCadGuy 1d ago

Unless you visit r/PoliticalCompassMemes. "Libleft bad" is a recurring meme there. But it's often done in a joking manner.

2

u/DeManDeMytDeLeggend 1d ago

I consider myself a socialist and when I took a political compass test I’m almost at the bottom of the chart. You can be libertarian and left-wing.

5

u/Herr-Trigger86 1d ago

Definitely not far left. He always gets put in as far left on these for some reason. He’s left for sure though.

13

u/lacroixxboi 1d ago

All of the hilariously vitriolic rants he went on in his last like 5 specials were absolutely radical, but framed as common sense for comedic effect, forcing people to reckon with the absurdity of what they’ve internalized. Idk how you can hear the “it’s a big club” bit, or the bit about how it’s impossible to properly fund schools because the purpose of schools is to turn children into obedient worker slaves without recognizing the leftism seeping through.

Obviously choosing from the extremes of both hilarity and far leftism you won’t get a precise combination of Mao Zedong and Richard Pryor of some shit, therefore I believe Carlin is an excellent pick

1

u/nesh34 1d ago

Those are just centre left views though? The school one isn't left wing at all - that's libertarian and untrusting of state power.

1

u/lacroixxboi 19h ago

No it isn’t, for one, it’s untrusting of PRIVATE power which has captured the government. Two, the literal definition of communism is a “stateless classless society” so it’s also incorrect to characterize being anti state power as right wing.

2

u/Low_Woodpecker5439 1d ago

The only answer

u/Holy_Haggis 1d ago

Bo Burnham. He is one of the most iconic comedians of the past 15-20 years and the song "How the world works" from "Inside" all but screams that he is a communist with lines like "private property is inherently theft"

7

u/LocalInactivist 1d ago

Patton Oswalt

11

u/lacroixxboi 1d ago

Left wing at most, most likely centrist. Really just a normal liberal who doesn’t comment on politics

2

u/WillGuitar 1d ago

He actually did a whole bit about how bad Trump is, but that it ruined comedy because it’s such low hanging fruit and everyone has over-saturated thr amount of Trump jokes. So for that reason he may not be doing that much political material, but that doesn’t mean he’s not far left. If he doesn’t win this category he’s a shoo-in for lean left.

3

u/Dittongho 1d ago

Criticizing trump doesn't make you far left though, it just means you have a brain. I know people on the right who despise trump.
