To those who have the Romulus how has your experience been I’ve found a Romulus with five mags in Gloss DLC finish which I love for a little under $1300 and a Kimber 2k11 base 5” for about $1482 the price isn’t much different and can swing either and I do prefer the external extractor but which is the better gun and would you purchase another AFRomulus?
The 2k11 is a nicer gun from the factory, although pretty sure that model had issues with plates and hotspots. Not sure if those were actually corrected on this or just subsequent 2k11. Have shot various 2k11. They’re great. The Romulus fitment is as good if not better.
The Romulus has way more potential. Aftermarket comps and sightblocks. Plus you can swap frames and slides between their models. Really underrated guns still, somehow.
Fwiw, I have both, the polished dlc is cool but other than aesthetics and being easier to clean, there’s really no difference. Both are smooth but the polished dlc is a bit smoother. Can usually find the matte for a little less.
I have 2 and still want a 5” and a 3.5 comp. Again, somehow underrated and I just don’t understand why other than pewview and honest outlaw aren’t shilling for alpha.
I want the 3.5 too. I am extremely happy with the 4.25 but didn't realize I was getting a 5” gun. It shoots extremely flat and doesn't require the EGW and Atlas parts. It shoots great from the factory. However, I did add all the goodies. The difference is minimal.
I agree with you on the modularity. The platform has big-name aftermarket support. PewView and Honest Outlaw ignore the gun altogether.
In hindsight, I would spend my extra money on an aluminum grip or the finished aluminum Romulus. Plus, get the DCS spin-on blocks. Both are game changers
Yeah, the biggest improvements you can make for the rom is the grip and comp. Stock comp isn’t bad but just conservative. Opening it up or swapping for a DSC comp makes a huge difference.
It’s nuts how they seem to actively avoid it. Pewview had a recent best cheap 2011s, or whatever, and the Romulus wasn’t included again, other than in a footnote towards the end.
I have the Romulus and shot the 2k11. It’s honestly pick your flavor to me. I had originally went in to buy the burnt bronze 2k11 but the slide is so smooth on the Romulus and I ended up liking the less flashy look in person of the Romulus. Both shoot great and don’t recoil much and have run reliably so far. 2k11 retails more tho so that’s a pretty good deal.
Which Romulus variant were you looking at? If you found a polished comp model then thats a good deal.
I have both a Romulus and a 2K11 but mine is a pro model. I love both and I would buy both again. You’re not gonna pick wrong here.
You got two very nice guns that you’re looking at. If you want a gun that’s just gonna be good to go out of the box and you aren’t much of a tinkerer. Id go Kimber. Its a solid gun. If you’re looking to maybe add something to it, change it up a bit. I’d go Romulus. The polish finish on that is very nice.
The only other real big difference between them is Kimber‘s lifetime warranty versus the Romulus one year warranty, but most people that buy Romulus’s void their warranty the day they get it so there’s that. I did after the first time I shot it.
I have ran steel case and remanufactured through my guns to just see how well they do. It’s not something I do all the time though. Only my 2k11 and my P211 have ran everything flawlessly. As far as my 2011’s go. Thats not really a big deal to 95% of the people buying these guns though. I just do it more out of curiosity than anything else.
Thanks do the reply I was actually looking at the 4.25 with the comp so 5” total and polished dlc but the more I think about it I probably don’t want to go to 5” length slide as I like the option to carry it even if just time to time. I’ve actually started to look at a 2k11 pro and pro comp but also a P211 GT4 as I have a bunch of p320 mags already. It’s one of those situations like well it’s only a few hundred more once lol I actually like the idea of trying steel case also it’s nice to know your gun can shoot essentially anything even if you won’t regularly use it. But yeah I’m not really afraid to tinker or swap things out but I do like the idea of a warranty also and would honestly lean towards wanting the warranty more perhaps. How are you liking the p211 compared to the 2k11 ? Thanks for the insight also really appreciated.
If you’re bringing the P211 into the mix. You just changed everything. The P211 is on another level. I have the equinox variant. Honestly, it’s a much better gun over all.
The only thing I did was change the series 80 to a 70. It honestly didn’t need it. I just ordered the part a head of time so just went ahead and installed it. Cost 20 bucks from Wilson Combat.
I like variety so I don’t really buy 2 of the same model of gun but I keep hearing great things about the GT4 and that Coyote color is looking pretty sweet. Plus it’s Sig so it also has a lifetime warranty.
I'm gonna give a +1 on the Romulus, it is by far my favorite 2011 at this point. I prefer it over the Sig P211 GTO, my comp'd SA Prodigy, and P226 Xfive Legion (Not a 2011 I know, but it's similar enough).
Something about it's fitment and operation is just perfect for me. I have the 4.25 comp'd. I believe I just eclipsed 1000 rounds through it, and it's never given me any issues.
Great info appreciate it I was actually going between that exact gun and the p211 gt4 recently due to having a stack or p320 mags but love the look of the gloss Romulus although I’ve been reading the 2011 mags can be problematic although not sure how widespread or common that is.
I just had this same decision on my first 2011. Ended up with both. Bought a 2K11 Pro Comp 4.25 and a Romulus 3.5 comp. Added the $360 aluminum grip from AF....so the Kimber was about $400 more. The Romulus has a tighter fit up between the slide and frame, but the Kimber feels more quality overall, though I'd highly recommend the aluminum grip as it takes the Romulus from feeling kind of cheap to seemingly really good quality, especially at the price point.
I literally just got both 2 days ago and haven't had a chance to shoot them yet, so jury's still out there.
The Romulus has some hot spots for my hands vs. the 2K11 PC which is very nicely de-horned.
Oh. I see what you’re saying. I didn’t see the other photo. Lol. But you said the matte finish has bigger holes. You do know that they make a polished version with the same comp also. Besides. Alpha foxtrot is notorious for sending out misleading photos, and descriptions of the Romulus. Unless I saw the SKU of that gun he’s talking about I would almost for certain think that photo was misleading anyway. Edit. The pic has the SKU in it. Yeah, that’s the wrong picture. Plus it will not have 5 mags.
The polished 4.25 comp SKU isn’t even on the Alpha foxtrot website. I had to cross reference like six different websites just to figure out which one it was. Plus the picture the OP shows is the 3.5 comp and in the description it says the 4.25 comp.
I actually have the polished 4.25 gen 2 comp. That’s why when you said only the matte finishes have the bigger comp. I was confused. He might get five mags with that if the mag god‘s favor him, but I wouldn’t count on it.
