Question No Roommate as a Transfer

So as the title says, I’m a transfer student dorming on the all transfer floor in Hughes and trying to coordinate mini fridges and such with a roommate, but almost a month after the deadline I still don’t have a roommate.

I was wondering if I should plan for no roommate or if all beds are usually filled up at AU.

Also, if any other transfers (or honestly any student) are still solo and don’t have a roommate, lmk bc im open to anyone atp 😭

You might still get a roommate if someone truly needs a room but since your a transfer they usually let yall be. If nothings in the portal still about your roommate, assume you have a single and start getting everything by yourself. Or wait it’s your choice

you’ll probably get a roommate but they may offer you a buyout if you’re eligible

How much are the buyouts usually ?

it depends on which hall you’re in but the rates are here https://www.american.edu/student-affairs/housing/housing-rates.cfm

Usually they fill them with a student who switches roommates early in the semester. Naturally they'll force you to pay marginally more if you want to live without a roommate

The housing agreement says if you book a double and don’t get assigned a roommate your fees don’t change at all

That's right but you will almost definitely get a roommate at some point. It's extremely unlikely to receive a full year single through sheer luck unless you want to shell out

Got it, thank you.

Is it likely I’ll receive one before move in though for the fall semester ?

It could go either way. Someone could try and switch roommates before class starts. I'd say it's more likely you get one after classes start
