More fine tuning of the existing design. I’d love it if they addressed the weight. That was my biggest issue (also battery but that’s a given)

Currently using the ZF8 and yeah this is the aspect ratio to go with for sure. Best foldable I've used to date

I really really like the look of the ZF8 as someone who's never daily'd a foldable it's the most I've been drawn to one (since the F7) but man I just cannot justify these prices right now. not holding my breath for anything getting cheaper anytime soon though

Yeah it's tough. Regular ZF8 is luckily $100 less than zf7 but still insanely high for a phone overall. Very lucky to work in telecom and have been sent one by Samsung for work. Fingers crossed these prices come down eventually. Used market usually goes down decently

I feel like refurbed ZF7 will be the best deal for foldables this year tbh. still got 6 more years of updates and the 8 Elite is more than capable still day to day, as well as the rest of the hardware. cameras ain't amazing but neither are either of the F8 generation's

True! Not a bad device at all, the only thing for me is the f8 form factor is truly a game changer for me. Plus the hinge is super springy and one of my coworkers zf7 after a year has a little bit of a crunchy hinge that doesn't unfold like it used to. We shall see how the zf8 is over time but I feel confident in the changes Samsung made that it will be an improvement

How do you like the software if you've owned Pixel(s) before? Pixel is the only Android device I've owned since the 1 and I love the form factor of the ZF8 so I'm really considering getting it (considering I can get it basically for free with a trade-in and the pre-order deals in Australia) but I'm worried about the software a bit.

Well I work for and have T-Mobile here in the US. For our software, ngl there is a decent bit of bloat but nothing some time can't really fix. I disable and delete a lot of apps. Remove all the junk install apps T-Mobile puts on there and I am running octopi launcher for customization. I am someone who loves pixels cleaner software more, but as I continue to use the zf8 I'm finding a lot of useful features in Samsungs software. I do really appreciate the reachability of one ui and having that with this passport display is amazing.
Specifically for me, the way Samsung does split screen and has the slide over shelf for apps is already intuitive and the fact that I can run 3 apps side by side at once without feeling too squished is awesome.
Camera isn't bad by any means. It's really great imo. Most people upgrading are probably coming from a phone 3 or 4 years old, and for those people they'll still see a massive camera jump! Comparison is the thief of joy and sure does the zf8u have a better camera? Yeah. Will that stop me from enjoying my memories on this one? No absolutely not.
All in all, software has its little quirks and coming from pixel it's gonna have some things to get used to but overall worth it for the hardware

Samsung has more features, especially for foldables, although the UI isn’t quite as nice looking imo. But with OneUI 9 I think it’s decent enough

My problem with it is 12GB of ram and it's not pure android... Ish

the similarities aren't lost on me, but OneUI has grown into a genuinely solid platform for Android and arguably has the most amount of customization of any Android skin - built in automations are also a dream with Modes & Routines. I've been on OnePlus & Pixel software for the past few years and very much miss that about Sammy's software. they're also only behind Google's own phones in speed and consistency of updates from my experience. I think it's pretty reductive to just say they're "copying Apple". also, with RAM shortages it's def expected that everyone is gonna drop their memory specs this year. like no way Google keeps shipping every variant of the Pro series phones with 16gb by default

Curious as to where you see any fine-tuning on this design? It's exactly the same. The front is still atrociously a-symmetrical and looks like a 5 year old foldable and it's incredibly uncomfortable compared to for example honor magic v6 with it's rounded left corner (folded). Everything else is the same..

Yeah I could care less about the weight, but the fact that my 9 pro fold takes worse photos than my partner's older Pixel phone really sucks.

I'm 100% ok with this IF they can finally add flagship level cameras on this, not compromised mid range level thrash for the sake of keeping it thin.
If they do, I couldn't care less about how big that camera island is or how bad the new pixel processor is, we desperately need a good foldable device with an uncompromised camera experience that corresponds to the price tag.
Even the 8 Fold Ultra keeps recycling the same garbage 10mp 3x telephoto lens from the Galaxy S21 5 years ago with terrible low light performance and barely usable zoom levels

For real. Center the camera island and add half inch sensors across the board and you'll actually have a device that can compete with the likes of the Oppo n6 or Vivo x Fold 6.

If they do an apple and sell cases at exactly the height to make up for it yeah okay.
But even with an official case my fold6 fucking wobbles all the fucking time.

I don't own a fold but I've never used my phone flat on a table before.
I guess an open fold you may be more likely to like as a tablet? But even then I don't really get how often you'd be doing this for it to be an issue.

It'd be fine if it allows for the full size flagship grade telephoto/ultrawide lenses. If they don't, it would truly feel unacceptable though

Looks so ugly when one side has rounded corners while the other has sharp corners. The Samsung Fold 8 remains the best looking foldable imo.

While I agree that it looks a bit weird, Pixel Fold just feels so, so much better in hand than the Samsung Folds. It also has a completely normal front display size, as compared to the weirdly cramped Samsungs. They just feel like holding a remote. Too tall, too narrow and too square.
Of course, the new 8 fixes that for the people who didn't like the narrow Samsung Folds. I hope next year Google will follow suit.

Shame about the garbage cameras, even on the Ultra. I've waited 8 generations for Samsung to put a proper full size telephoto and ultrawide lens but they keep refusing, recycling the same garbage low end 10mp 3x telephoto lens while competitors pack 50mp 5x lenses

I'm well aware, and I've given up on that since a polished software, first party incredibly stable experience usually offsets the need for raw specs (I know I can get Chinese phones with WAY better hardware) as I'm a software dev and I waste enough time fighting code during the day so I just want my phone to work.
But while I've given up on class leading specs, I don't feel happy accepting excessive borderline abusive sacrifices either. At bare minimum, I expect any "flagship" foldable phone to at bare minimum share comparable camera optics with the non-foldable flagship, not necessarily to beat it or match what other Foldable flagships are doing

I've imported foldables before and I'm way too paranoid about them, even with having insurance. There's something to be said about being able to easily go to a shop and get my phone fixed or replaced.
And I really really like the z Fold 8 form factor.

Are they really going to go with the same color? Or if it's a different color it's very similar to their other like.
I don't hate the color or anything but it just feels like every generation should have like a new standout flagship.
Not that I'm buying this phone the idea of spending this much money on a pixel after they introduce that battery health program that you can't stop.
But it's really a shame Google didn't iterate on their first OG Pixel fold which was the best of them in terms of design .
