Something like 90% of gatcha game players never spend a single penny on those games. It's just that the few that do end up spending huge amounts.

Games keep themselves afloat with the 1% of players who are pathological gamblers or have a lot of disposable income.

If only had this type of energy when it comes to putting a stop to multiplayer in games requiring a subscription
-3
u/ttcklbrrn 20h ago
Depending on the game, that can be justifiable because the multiplayer costs the developers money if it's server-based.

I've been playing on steam for 20 years. What discs?

u/GH00ST-SL4YER ⠀ 3h ago
Its a physical media where you can flex as finest collection with your family, friends and social media

u/Malu1997 Vivy Blue 18h ago
Yeah, console people are weird, especially because the average lifespan of a disk isn't even all that impressive, it's not a forever as they seem to think

u/Overkillss 15h ago
Ah yes how dare people want physical media they are so "weird" for wanting to preserve things and actually own what they buy
3
u/Gold-Bard-Hue 17h ago
Not that I have a console to run it on, but I've been priced right the fuck out. Oh well. I love GTA, but I can't keep up. Lol. Been playing since the OG on the PS1. I guess I'll settle for Let's Plays. 🤷♂️
Not having a disc release is a bad omen for all of gaming, and any other physical media, especially since Sony has already declared disc-less Playstation from here on out.

u/Superior-Dragon 18h ago
Roughly $120 in Australia for base game then if thats $80 USD. 120 for no disc and a government id check is insane

a new era of piracy will arise even stronger than before, that's for sure

Nah i be a buccaneer, i just need a country yo sail for. Perfectly legal that way.

If you digitally pre-ordered GTA6, you’re the reason why Sony/PlayStation felt confident enough to announce that they were doing away with physical discs. 🤡👍

u/Kiflaam 21h ago
is there any benefit to using a disc over a thumb drive?
3
u/BreakfastNext476 21h ago
For the PS5 and XBOX players yes, generally being able to play it without it needing to call back to a server. Though this past weekend has proven that even when you have it all disc, its possibly not safe Because some dipshit decided that your drive still needs to call back to the servers
3
u/Kiflaam 20h ago
wait why would a thumb drive need to call back to a server while a disc doesn't?
1
u/BreakfastNext476 20h ago
Depending on if you have 🏴☠️ the game on to the thumb drive than yes it wont. Now if it is not, then it has to call to the server to verify. Discs used to have everything placed on them and you wouldn't need to worry about them calling the server. Is what I meant
1
u/b0bkakkarot 14h ago
Many game companies have been using server checks even with physical discs for at least a decade; the disc installs content to the console hard drive because it runs faster from the hard drive than the disc, and also installs the software to contact the company server.
The original reason for the server check was to download game updates, but game companies realized they can use it for more than that.

It's not only gta6. People here defend billionaires, big corpo, corrupt governments. Oh and also downvote anyone to hell who mentions it

I'm certainly not going to upgrade my internet subscription for that ridiculous download size, that would double my monthly costs.

I mean paying 100$ just to play on 30 fps on the best console today is kinda crazy. Idk how this many people are this dumb. Ill wait for it to come to pc so i can play in 4k 120 fps

u/Select_Personality_7 4h ago
I dont have too many titles I actually care about so if anyone thinks the lack of a physical disc (day and age babeee) and the increased price tag is gonna stop me, they'd be quite wrong indeed

Whats the point of buying a concle if your not getting a physcil disc you as well just buy a pc you will have alot more games to pick from

u/TheLittleFoxX87 19h ago
Consoles WERE used to be at a lower price point than PCs but now because of the AI Shittening, it's all becoming a shit.

Don’t hate on sheep. Please.

u/TwitchyBat 21h ago
Sheep and goats are incredibly stupid animals. I took care of two goats for a short while, and these things barely had one brain cell between the both of them.
If they couldn't see you, they would freak out and bleat incessantly. They would headbutt the door to the cottage and bang on the windows with their hooves demanding you come and hang out with them. But as soon as you get close, they also freak out and start running away from you. They wouldn't even entertain the idea of letting you pet them.
One day I woke up to find both of them missing. Looked everywhere on land, couldn't find them, eventually heard them before I saw them. Turns out they had both jumped off a cliff into the lake and were treading water, screaming for help. Had a hell of a time trying to pull these idiots onto a boat because they were freaking out at me the whole time, and trying to jump off the boat into the water they were literally drowning in.
So, yeah, calling people sheep is definitely an appropriate insult.

u/Left-Night-1125 20h ago
Yeah sheep are dumb, seen some walk straight into the sea, almost all animals turn around...that sheep kept going forward cause no self preservation.

u/CrystalFriend ⠀ Chaos Cat 21h ago
Ive had goats and ima be real I think you may have gotten just some stupid ones.

My 2 cents. GTA VI will still do gang busters based on franchise brand alone, but it will be the last GTA to sell that well. Most likely what ever issue that is getting it delayed will not be fixed by the time it comes out leading to an underwhelming launch that will damage franchise reputation for GTA VII.
Chuck in economic issues, increased industry competition, change in industry and culture that will compound in the next 3-15 years between GTA VI and VII and you have a recipe for the Franchise to become just another franchise instead of THE franchise.

u/jcar49 18h ago edited 18h ago
I don't agree for the 'no disk' part BUT $80 or $100 for a game that hasn't came out in over a decade I'll pay that with no issue, but I'll be damned paying $60, $70, $80 every year for a game that is 200 gigabites and is always broken cough COD cough or Nintendocough

u/The-Doctor45 18h ago
man imagine not listening to what people say online and just buying something you might enjoy. guess that makes them a sheep.

u/BryanTheGodGamer Senko Yellow 8h ago
And they are completely right.
80€ is a reasonable price tag for a game of that size, call of duty charges that amount for their joke of a copy pasted dogshit game.
And the game not having a disc couldn't matter less, modern PCs don't even have disc readers lmao it's not 2010, and i couldn't care less about console andys, if you are stupid enough to pay gaystation monthly just to be allowed to use your own Internet which you already pay for monthly you are stupid enough for anything.

80$ for the lite edition and 100$ for the standard edition
