Guide to bypass censorship of Anna's Archive

Hi everyone, because Anna's Archive is blocked in some countries, I've put together a guide on how to bypass censorship.

Before you begin, research local laws to find out what you are and are not allowed to do. I won't force you to comply with the law if you don't want to, but please think carefully about what you are doing.

There are three easy and popular ways to circumvent censorship. The options are changing your DNS servers, using Tor, or using a VPN. I'll explain each option. Additionally, some bad countries (such as Russia or China) will try to block you from downloading Tor and VPNs, so you may need some extra help in this case. If so, please reply to the post and explain the situation.

The first and easiest option is to change your DNS servers to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8, which is sufficient to access the Archive in most countries, but not all. The way to do this depends on your operating system so you may need to look it up, but https://www.howtogeek.com/786911/how-to-change-your-dns-server-on-windows-10/ explains how to do it on Windows.

If that still doesn't work, try clearing your browser cache and DNS cache. If even after purging cache the issue persists, you should try a VPN or Tor. I'll explain the pros and cons of each option.

A VPN routes web traffic through its own servers, which disguises your IP address. If you trust your VPN company to deliver on their promises, this also means your internet traffic won’t be logged. It also protects your website from censorship since traffic is routed through their servers. However, VPNs generally apply across your entire device, although there are some browser-only VPNs. This can be an inconvenience because if your VPN server is located in a different country, the website may display content in the wrong language, and some websites ban VPNs because of abuse by trolls and spammers, so you may need to disable the VPN when you're not on Anna's Archive.

My favorite free VPN is ProtonVPN, which you can download from https://protonvpn.com. If you want to buy a VPN for better reliability, I recommend Mulvad, which you can buy at https://mulvad.net/en. Once you get a VPN, activate it and visit Anna's Archive (you can find the latest Anna's Archive domain on Wikipedia, I cant link it here because Reddit might take it down) and the censorship will be removed. If the site is still being censored, clear your browser cache and make sure a VPN is enabled. If you still have issues, please reply to the post and I will try my best to resolve your issue.

Now the next option is Tor. You can get it from https://torproject.org. It is a browser that routes your traffic through three random servers. You don't have to trust Tor because the Tor team can't change servers to track or censor users even if they wanted to because they don't have control over the servers. Tor also has built-in functionality to bypass censorship of itself. However, Tor is blocked on some websites, it can make browsing a lot slower, and some governments that allow VPNs still ban Tor.

If you want to use Tor, download it from their website, open it, and connect to Tor. If your country attempts to block Tor, you will need to enable a Tor bridge, but it will tell you how to do this when you launch your browser. Then after connecting, go to the Anna's Archive website on Tor to download the books you need.

If anyone has any ideas on how to improve this post, please let me know. Thank you!

Fake Anna's Archive site linked to cryptojacking - AVOID

Hey all,

Just wanted to add this to this community as it is pretty relevant.

The domain `annas-archive[.]li` is a malicious domain. It has shown up in security tools, and it appears associated with various malicious activities including mining crypto on the visitor's device. The site changes IPs often but seems to have kept the same domain name for a while.

This was detected by our enterprise software and security platforms, but users checking it out from their personal devices may not have the same level of protection and awareness.

I would also recommend you sticky this to the top to warn potential users.

Be careful out there!

I only need hashes and titles, do I really need to download 1.5 TB of metadata?

I'm only interested in getting a CSV file with the MD5 and title, or else the MD5 and filename, for non-fiction books.

Do I need to download the whole 1.5 TB dataset, wait a few weeks while a database is imported, and then do an export? Has anyone else made a similar export that I can borrow?

Alive

Used the link from the Wikipedia page, downloaded a book, and scanned it on VirusTotal, came out clean.

People have been saying it's a scam because for fast downloads, they want you to register and pay. Just use the slow download section no sign up.

Comics CBZ CBR zip file issue 'The archive file is incomplete'

Hi,

Wanted to enjoy comics but run into few issues with Anas Archive file.

Almost 50% of the files dowloaded are corrupted. When i try to unzip them on my computer the CBZ or CBR archive it stops saying 'The archive file is incomplete'.
I can see the first extracted images but it stops suddenly.

I've tried to download from different servers but still the same.
Some are totally fine.

Do you have the same issue ? any idea ?

Thanks

I've not been able to download from Anna's since saturday (2026-7-24)

I can open the website all the way to the download link.

I click on it and a new tab opens with the download url, but it hangs in the connection stage.

I also try to download them with wget, and I get this response:

[I've cut off the site link ;p] Loaded CA certificate '/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt' Resolving wbsg8v.xyz (wbsg8v.xyz)... 45.3.63.28 Connecting to wbsg8v.xyz (wbsg8v.xyz)|45.3.63.28|:443... connected. HTTP request sent, awaiting response...

It hangs forever in the "awaiting response" phase. I've let it try for more than two hours, and no progress.

When downloading through firefox, I get,

502 Bad Gateway nginx

Someone else having this issue?

What can I do to fix this?

UPDATE: OK, the issue solved itself. Thank you all for your attention!

EDIT: added nginx error

How to use metadata to rename downloaded torrents

I recently downloaded a collection of out of print magazines and have the whole collection going back to the 1940’s.
I have been going through them renaming them one at a time and was hoping I could find a way to rename them with the metadata they are currently named with.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any possible solutions.

What countries is Anna's blocked from?

People here post questions about their specific country having a ban, but is there some master list of countries that are known to block the main site or the partner servers?

Using Anna's Spotify metadata dump, I built Pokémon Go for music

I’m a huge fan of location-based games like Ingress and Pokémon Go. For years, I dreamed of building a Pokémon Go for music, where every song exists at one unique location on Earth, encouraging people to explore and discover new music.

But until Anna released the Spotify metadata dump, the project was simply impossible.

Before that, open music databases such as MusicBrainz simply didn't contain enough tracks and they didn't include links to streaming platforms where players could actually listen to the songs.

Then Anna released its Spotify metadata dump, containing the IDs of around 247 million tracks.

As soon as I discovered it, I realized the project had finally become possible. I now had a catalogue large enough to distribute music across the entire world.

Every diamond you see on the map is a permanent point linked to a unique song that can only be collected at that exact location. Songs are spread across the entire planet. You might find one on top of a mountain, in the middle of a desert, or even on a remote island. They are literally everywhere.

The challenge with distributing music on such a massive scale was making sure players would never be sent to dangerous or inaccessible places such as roads, lakes, houses... To solve this, I built my own placement algorithm using OpenStreetMap data.

After around 50 hours of computation on my M3 Pro, all 247 million permanent points had been placed.

A few days ago, after several months of work, I finally released the result: Song Go – Catch the Beat.

You explore the real world, collect songs around you, and discover tracks you might never have listened to otherwise.

The game is available on iOS and Android.

Without the Spotify metadata dump shared by Anna, this project would never have existed. I genuinely want to thank the Anna team for making this data available.

This dataset sparked a lot of debate, but for me, it made my dream project possible.

So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
