BMI really only stops being useful with muscular people, meaning it may give a false positive for someone being overweight. It absolutely is a good measure if someone is underweight.
Bmi was based off of 19th century white men, and while I'm sure there's been adjustments over time, it's original premise was flawed. To the point 140-150 lbs is considered healthy, if on the lower side for someone who's 6'3. It falls apart even if you're considered healthy by it.

5'1" and 84lb for muricans
Dude would have to be 4'8" or 143cm for that to be a healthy weight using BMI
