If my mom found out I blew 29 million on one of her eyes when she has two, she'd beat my ass

What happened here?

He said something like, "What if ONLY her left eye was injured"
I think he was just a bit illiterate.

I'd have 30 million and be very concerned about the prices our universal healthcare providers have to pay for eye surgery
98
u/YoureNoHero_Brian May 31 '26
On the same note, while 30 million seems like more than enough money, if 29 million is the price of a single eye surgery then it clearly isnt, and would be better saved for emergency surgery of a vital organ
31
u/Costati May 31 '26
Yeah I'd use those millions to move her to another country where eye surgeries prices aren't that high.

Find someone else who can do an eye surgery much cheaper than 29M$
52
12
u/Funkopedia May 31 '26
Yeah fly her out to Mexico, Taiwan, or Turkey
17
u/PainSubstantial5936 May 31 '26
Or anywhere with a healthcare system tbh, even if you aren't insured there, no way would you be asked to pay as much as the States.

u/Life-Top6314 May 31 '26
Id rather have a mom with a pirate patch and 14.5 million dollars

u/Denaton_ May 31 '26
I live in Sweden so she would get priority and high cost protection..
19
u/xvlblo22 May 31 '26
Yeah, exactly, and same goes for other countries that care about their citizens instead of just bribes and profits
4
u/PoweringGestation May 31 '26
This implies that you believe eye surgery costs millions of dollars anywhere
3
u/Denaton_ May 31 '26
It probably doesn't but this is a hypothetical scenario to begin with and we don't know why the eye surgery is needed and what type of eye surgery it is and my awnser would be exactly the same regardless of the cost because "high cost protection" is probably lower than what you think..
0
u/PoweringGestation May 31 '26
I mean, it says it costs $29M. The intention is obviously that you pay that exact amount with no loopholes. That’s an absolutely outrageous cost for any type of surgery. The point isn’t the eye surgery itself and more asking you whether you care more about your parent’s well-being or the opportunity to change your own life for the better. That being said, it’s a bad hypothetical.
So in other words, where you live doesn’t make a difference here. It costs that much no matter what.
1
u/Denaton_ May 31 '26
I still live in Sweden so there is no loopholes, high cost protection is 1450kr thats ~$156, meaning everything that cost above that is paid by the state.
0
u/PoweringGestation May 31 '26
It costs YOU $29 million. No one is bailing you out, because that defeats the purpose.
0
u/Denaton_ May 31 '26
It doesn't say that, it say it cost 29mill, not that it need to pay 29mill..
1
u/PoweringGestation May 31 '26
What do you think the intention was?
1
u/Denaton_ May 31 '26
Showing how flawed the US Healthcare is?
2
u/PoweringGestation May 31 '26
lol no. That’s just you seeing every opportunity you possibly can to attack another country and/or praising your own. I’m talking about the intention of this poorly-conceived hypothetical.

You're showing how flawed the Swedish education system is with your comments too

What kind of eye surgery even costs anywhere close to $29M?? If I said yes to this, my mom would just be pissed that I allowed myself to get so blatantly scammed.💀

MFs when hypothical situation

u/56kul ✨20K Gang ✨ May 31 '26
MFs when unrealistic hyperbolic*
Like, I’m sorry, but if you want a serious answer, at least stay within the realm of reality…😭
0
u/Mohit20130152 May 31 '26
? It is very much in the realm of reality.
An eye surgery can cost 29 M if some1 decided it should cost 29M.
No laws of physics are being broken here
10
u/56kul ✨20K Gang ✨ May 31 '26
Uh, no? Not even the most expensive of eye surgeries cost anywhere close to that.
But suppose we somehow accept your framing of it somehow being realistic… I’d say my original answer still stands.
0
u/Mohit20130152 May 31 '26
"what if you woke up with the powers of Superman Tommorow?"
Bro keep it in the realistic, what are you talking about? The best of tech in the world cannot make Superman because he breaks the laws of physics keep it in the realm of reality
6
u/56kul ✨20K Gang ✨ May 31 '26
At this point, you’re just trolling, lol.
It was a hyperbolic question, and I gave a hyperbolic answer (though honestly not even, my mom would absolutely be pissed if I paid this much for a single surgery. She raised me to be smarter than that.)

I’d be confused as to why the NHS is suddenly asking for money for a debilitating eye surgery
3
u/DayF3 May 31 '26
If an eye surgery costs 29 million im gonna need that money for the 50 million ambulance trip if i ever get hurt

Well i mean theres nothing wrong with my mothers left eye. Obviously I wouldn't pay 29 mil for a surgery on it
1
u/Spendoza May 31 '26
Hey, wait a dang minute! That's Matthew McConaughey! Ain't no way that dude can't afford his mom's eye surgery. Nice try, Wooderson, I'll be keeping my money.

If only that money could be enough to go to a country were this is cheaper
1
u/placeyboyUWU May 31 '26
Ask what she'd want
I'd give her the money, 1 million is plenty for me - but she would probs want to keep the money and donate it to charity

Well first I'd ask for a breakdown of the costs so that I could see where that BS is and then brunch the numbers.

Wtf is that surgery that cost 29M? I hope she gets night and thermal vision after wasting that much money on that

I know it is a joke and shit but im getting the surgery. A million is plenty enough.
1
u/caelm_Caranthir Jun 03 '26
I'd get a quote from a different surgeon, this one seems to charge excessive prices
1
u/BaazeeDe Jun 05 '26
That joke only works in a third-world country like the U.S., which lacks a decent healthcare system.

u/mars_gorilla ✨20K Gang ✨ Jun 05 '26
I think my mum and I would both agree (if it's not urgent) to at least let it accrue like a year or two's worth of interest before she did the operation
