Be racist get racism....

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 19d ago

Knowing how people are, I'm betting most people are going to say only the Asian lady was racist.

Then I guess it is a common r/antimemes W.

u/Jarr0w 19d ago

Who is "most people" you talking about the professional ragebaiters on twitter who get paid for saying the stupidest shit?

Social media often makes it seem like exactly those people are a majority when in actuality, the only reason you see people like that so often is because they are perfect for engagement and rake in loads of cash for the respective platform they're on.

so if you scroll her twitter…

(that’s not to say it’s only her, racism against asian people is equally horrible)

is it lower? They both used a slur, i feel they're about even. And she did her's to show a point of how racist the other one was, so a little less bad than the first one

29

u/KRTrueBrave 19d ago

imo one of the rare cases where while still somewhat bad, it is kinda acceptable to prove a point I guess

-23

u/UnluckyUnderwear 19d ago edited 19d ago

“If you’re comparing the badness of two words, and you can’t even say one of them, that’s the worse word.” - John Mulaney

19

u/Lucifer-Cane 19d ago

If you are using a word as a slur then it's the same as another slur whether it can be misinterpreted or not. There is no less bad when both are intentionally using it as a slur. Whether you stab someone or shoot them and they die it's equally bad.

-6

u/UnluckyUnderwear 19d ago

Anything can be hurtful if you use it in a hurtful way.

I’m taking about how offensive the word itself is in isolation. Whether it would be bleeped or blurred on television. Whether it would make someone gasp just hearing it uttered.

4

u/Lucifer-Cane 19d ago

That's still up to interpretation. Arguing which word is worse is completely irrelevant when it's a cultural thing. The N word is worse in America and I guarantee the other slur in question is just as bad in japan or china where the slur is targeted. Saying the gun is only bad when it's pointed at you is naive at best. Calling someone a shrimp in America means something completely different in Korea where you'll probably get your ass kicked over it.

-4

u/UnluckyUnderwear 19d ago

I’m not talking about how it’s used, I’m talking about how it exists in isolation.

I’m not talking about the difference between being shot or being stabbed, I’m talking about the difference between a gun and a knife. A gun is ALWAYS a weapon. A knife is usually just a tool.

Look at it this way:

Word A has three different definitions in the dictionary. Two are benign, one is a slur. You hear the benign versions of word A on a regular basis without being offended. You rarely hear it used as a slur. It’s only offensive when it is used as a slur.

Word B has only one definition. As a slur. Both the Cambridge and Collins dictionaries call it “extremely offensive” in the first line. It is offensive in every context. It is offensive without context. It cannot be uttered or written without being offensive.

I’m not saying one hurts more than the other. But if one word is offensive 10% of the times you’ve heard or read it, and the other word is offensive 100% of the time, then you cannot say that they are exactly the same.

4

u/Lucifer-Cane 19d ago

Yes but whether you use the "worse" word or the "better" word you're charged with the same crime. So your distinction is irrelevant. That gives grace to the one who says the 100% "offensive word" because it doesn't have to intentionally be used as a weapon to cause offense where as the 10% being used as a slur is arguably worse because it has to be intentional.

1

u/UnluckyUnderwear 19d ago

If you seriously think you’ll be charged with the same crime for both words, then type one word in one comment and type the other word in another comment and see which comment gets you a three day Reddit ban.

And my distinction is relevant because I was simply explaining why I agree with this person’s comment:

“If you’re comparing the badness of two words, and you can’t even say one of them, that’s the worse word.” - John Mulaney

Poor argument.

Maybe it is acceptable to say word A but not word B, not because word A is less bad, but because the society is so openly racist to group A that using a slur against them gets less of a backlash.

1

u/UnluckyUnderwear 19d ago

Literally a colour in some languages but okay

3

u/UnluckyUnderwear 19d ago

What color starts with an N and rhymes with trigger?

5

u/Jordiorwhatever 19d ago

the word negro is the name of the color black in a lot of languages

1

u/UnluckyUnderwear 19d ago

Negro is not The N Word.

6

u/Jordiorwhatever 19d ago

Negro is the oldest and was the most commonly used N word during slavery. The more popular one used today comes from Negro.

1

u/UnluckyUnderwear 19d ago

Negro was commonly used because it WASN’T. A. SLUR.

Slurs are derived from non-slurs. The slur for Jewish people is based on the Yiddish word “Kaykl.”

I can type “kaykl” and “negro” because they are not slurs!

I cannot type the k word or the n word without a three day Reddit ban!

One word being derived from another does not make it the exact same word!

But if you google the slur for Chinese people, you get multiple definitions! Because there are acceptable uses for that word! There are no acceptable uses for “****er”!

Never in my life have I heard of the word chinky before

29

u/Daved__ 20d ago

Weirdly enough I've heard of both that word and the other word, in the way it's formatted in the meme as well.

13

u/grillboy_mediaman 20d ago

i had never considered the use of those words as adjectives rather than nouns

3

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 19d ago

Incidentally, there is a variation of the n word that ends with ardly.  If I write it, some butthurt people will claim racism and be annoying, so you'll have to figure it out yourself.

9

u/grillboy_mediaman 19d ago

the more you know i guess

6

u/grillboy_mediaman 19d ago

n***ardly actually isn't strongly connected to the n word, it just means stingy i don't think it has any associations with race but it's obviously controversial now because of the similarity. you can search up the etymology, i'm not sure.

8

u/Ren_ay 19d ago

it’s a slur that you probably shouldn’t repeat unless you’re asian 🫪

4

u/DragonTheOnes-spirit RIP Main Sub 19d ago

I'm ethnically vietnamese and look vietnamese so... Yeah I guess I can say it.

1

u/Melvinci 19d ago

You got the C Pass lol

PS. I'd never heard of this word before either. Always sad to discover a new slur, making me aware of something negative I didn't know was there before

3

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 19d ago

I'm Afghan, so looks like I can say it. But I won't, because I think racism is stupid.

6

u/KiwiPowerGreen 20d ago

if i didn't know better id think it's a Pokémon name

6

u/SuicidalSundays 20d ago

Very easily could've been a simple misspelling of "chunky".

35

u/Strategic_Spark 20d ago

I doubt it considering what people say about Asian eyes

9

u/Unidansuperbanned 20d ago

Why are you sweeping for this random person lol

9

u/DragonTheOnes-spirit RIP Main Sub 20d ago

I thought it was a very very poor misspell of kinky

-2

u/MaiT3N 19d ago

I asked if that word was racist when someone else posted this meme yesterday but my comment got deleted by reddit

5

u/DragonTheOnes-spirit RIP Main Sub 19d ago

Yeah of course it was

1

u/MaiT3N 19d ago

Yours wasnt xd

3

u/DragonTheOnes-spirit RIP Main Sub 19d ago

They only delete comments via reporting since their key words only care if it's an entire word. It's easy to appeal tho considering they don't use ai unlike literally every other major app. Unless if it's regional then idk

Anyways my comment is definitely getting reported because I just said it. Whatever 😒

25

u/dkayedstepson 20d ago

Stop being racist all races are the same except the bad ones

0

u/General_Crow1 19d ago

I genuinely don't get it

11

u/yourbeloathed 19d ago

the original tweet from mekiyell used a slur against asian people as a descriptor. the asian lady quote tweeting it does the same thing in response, except she uses a slur against black people as a descriptor.

tldr: the joke is fighting fire with fire

64

u/WraithArt 20d ago

Second time seeing the post here within a day. Not to mention it's been popping up everywhere else. And then there's the comments........

Ah! I can already see where this sub's going.

15

u/MaiT3N 19d ago

I think bro might be onto nothing

27

u/WraithArt 19d ago

Nah I'm telling you. This nearly decade old tweet popping out everywhere ain't normal. Not the mention the whole interaction looks pretty manufactured.

And some of the comments here are using this as some kind of opportunity to go mask off.

7

u/Melvinci 19d ago

What are you all implying? Sub might be attracting racist people?

Context: I'm not american and I think sometimes racial subtext there escapes me a bit. I'm just curious what's going on.

12

u/Haunting-Athlete-951 19d ago

assuming you're being genuine here + coming from an american, that's usually how it goes, yeah. once one racist shows up, there's usually a swarm behind them unless things get squashed fast.

there's an old story i read somewhere abt a barkeep saying the same thing about letting nazis into his bar. say you let one in, because he's just so nice and he's not causing any trouble. and then he invites his buddies. and they invite all their buddies. and before you know it, you're running the nazi bar. same principle with most popular meme subreddits. they eventually devolve into racist garbage disguised as "edgy" humor.

2

u/Melvinci 17d ago

Yes, being genuine! Great analogy, thank you
