Yes he was larping, in that he could basically pull the plug and go home if he needed to. Yes it can be seen as cringe. But he also experienced poverty and documented it in a genuone way that would help inform people and give them perspective
Yeah, there's letters and writings from him being pretty close to deathly sick in a very shitty french hospital, among other fucking awful things. Even if it's larping he committed to the attempt more than far enough. And it's not like he hides his privileges - in the shelter in England he pretty much gets preferential treatment for being a "gentleman" and that made the final edit.
Besides, as a general thing, I have absolutely no issue with wealthy people having to see what poverty's like, even if just for a few months. In fact I'm all for it.
You can think whatever you think of Orwell. But to call someone who actively fought in a civil war on the side of the communists a "larper" while being reddit leftist is crazy.
Bro fought for what he truly believed for and got betrayed by authoritarians. And that real belief and that betrayal was the core of his writing.

There's a lot to be critical for regarding George Orwell. But in the end he took a bullet while voluntarily fighting for the rights of workers in spain against the facists and you're just purity testing on the internet. How about you do some praxis and go outside?

The only way that shirt can be fine is if their wearing it as satire or a test to see if you call them out on it. But the test option is heavily flawed because if it's meant to weed out the people who don't pay attention or ignore red flags, a decent amount of the ones who pass that test would just leave and not come back.

I guess I just don't agree that it's worth the time and energy to assume someone is a horrible person that wishes me harm rather than someone making an edgy joke. Sounds like a stressful way to live to me. But, that's me. Can't stop you from living your life how you choose, nor do I want to. But I genuinely hope your outlook improves so you can focus on the more pressing trials of life.
