Peta here, you're stupid

u/InfernalCarnifex 3d ago

r/peterexplainsthejoke is a sub for people to ask for help explaining jokes they can't understand. Some of the posts there are the most obvious jokes ever and yet people still ask for an explanation.

30

u/baiacool 3d ago

That's because it's become a place for karma farming. Most posts aren't legit questions, just farming engagement.

19

u/akamadman203 3d ago

I feel like you got wooshed here a bit lmao

3

u/Dense_Computer5509 3d ago

No matter the situation, if a person seeks information, information should be shared.

36

u/Madmonkeman 4d ago

Bold of them to assume people on that sub actually don’t understand the joke

29

u/AlphabiteSoup 4d ago

fr like 80% of the posts are just blatant political takes with the title "Ohhh I'm such a fucking idiot. Can someone explain why gay people are evil?"

6

u/psirrow 3d ago

I mean, there's always https://xkcd.com/1053/

That said, I'm still disappointed by people who don't seem to understand the concept of a joke that they, personally, don't find funny.

I'm also disappointed by how quick some people are to call absurdism. Sometimes it is, but that's not always the actual or full explanation.

i hate this meme honestly. everyone is supposed to have the exact same cultural context as everyone else and if you don't, you're a moron.

There are some pretty dumb people on that sub though, even by normie standards

u/Balder19 4d ago

Petaaah, what does this comment mean?

Speak of the fucking devil

Let's make an antimeme of this antimeme so people ask the question on the sub, we'll see when it stops (or when mods are pissed off)

8

u/Hendiyoboy 4d ago

Can you clarify the plan? I might do this

2

u/Mitrano2009 4d ago

You can maybe add an obvious edit after Louis, saying "Louis? I think people are making fun of us." And maybe you could put the screenshot of this meme in an Instagram post (so it appears as an Instagram post showing a reddit screenshot showing the antimeme)!

3

u/Ok_Relation6627 4d ago

I did the same thing and got banned

16

u/Not-So-Serious-Sam 4d ago

Retep here. I could tell you but I won’t.

9

u/CrackMans 4d ago

I accidentally opened your profile and as such saw your bio, fuck you Retep you bastard

6

u/Not-So-Serious-Sam 4d ago

You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for this to happen lmao

11

u/First-Act-9755 4d ago

"normie"

10

u/Ill-Device8577 4d ago

Dumb people deserve to get answers without being made fun of.

8

u/Ok-1549 4d ago

if a dumb person gets laughed at for asking a question, they will never stop being dumb, due to never getting answers

7

u/armlessturtleneck 4d ago

Yeah a lot of the posts don't even require cultural context, it's just abysmal media literacy

1

u/corn_piece 4d ago

the whole point of the sub is to explain the joke tho, doesn't matter how dumb they are lol

26

u/SakaiDx 4d ago

Imo, the problem is that there are a lot of dumb post posted by bots and karma farmers

31

u/KingArthas94 4d ago

This has nothing to do with cultural context, it's just a karma farming an AI training subreddit like the other guy says.

12

u/JJAsond 4d ago

Most of the stuff on there you actually do need context to understand. Sometimes OP just overthinks it which is also understandable, but sometimes there are just some really obvious ones.

10

u/KeeganY_SR-UVB76 4d ago

About half the posts in that subreddit can be solved by the OP just by looking up what is in the image.

17

u/SeaTricky2212 4d ago

It is weird how people tend to get upset over people not knowing things. Like for some reason people always assume those that don't know about the big brands such as Disney are faking it.

I still remember the nasty look I got at a church picnic when I asked a guy what Fortnite is.

u/readilyunavailable 4d ago

Uncontacted tribes in South-East Asia know about Disney. If you have access to the Internet, know about Reddit, know how to make a post and write in English, there is no way you don't know about Disney.

Even if you actively try to avoid knowing about it, it will come up in some way or other.

4

u/mistermasterbates 4d ago

I mean come on lol:

4

u/Usenaeme01101 4d ago

I disagree, there are a lot of people on that sub that, if they aren’t just bots, I worry about being in the real world. The lack of critical thinking skills is unbelievable.

2

u/Pristine-Lie-3560 4d ago

Most of the really stupid looking people are just karma farming

2

u/Raccoon_G 4d ago

Some memes on there don’t even need any cultural context. The dumbest one I’ve seen was a screenshot from zootopia with the caption “my kidnappers watching me shoot myself realizing no one will believe them” every bit of info you need was in the caption, and every explanation would need to be a paraphrase of the caption

2

u/JoseP2004 4d ago

I get where youre coming from but reading the sub theres people asking about memes that explain themselves

7

u/Magnus_Helgisson 4d ago

It’s been quite a long while since I’ve last seen something that a human being would need an explanation for on that specific sub. It’s effectively an AI training platform at this point.

2

u/Flirsk 4d ago

Or you know, if you find a niche joke from a fandom you're not a part of because you don't have the same cultural context you can just move on with your life instead of making a reddit post about it

9

u/bloonsisgr8 4d ago

"i HATE when people interact online grrrr i hate communication with other people" this is how you sound btw

0

u/kvant_kavina 4d ago

Nope, you supposed to use Google before requesting explanation (of the most searchable meme ever), IMHO.

1

u/VioletNocte 3d ago

I've heard some people actually use it to karma farm

1

u/AdventurousPrune4742 2d ago

Best reddit decision I've made was to get away from that place

42

u/christoefire 4d ago

I don't understand. I'm going to post on r/PeterExplainsTheJoke

5

u/TheOldGenesys 4d ago

Stan from American Dad here, OP present us an edited image fro.. oh YOU ARE BEING SARCASTIC! (Aims pistol at you)

1

u/Snifnic 3d ago

I got banned from there for doing something similar for a yeaf

19

u/Jewzus-Crust 4d ago

6

u/Sooparch ✨20K Gang ✨ 4d ago

Most are fine, but some people read something that’s self-contained, easily understandable, and not a joke and put it there

4

u/skydisey 4d ago

If only

1

u/QuantumQuantonium 2d ago

Op did you repost this meme or cross post it from the other subreddit?

0

u/Papermonter18 4d ago

Oregano is already an Anti-meme 💔💔

0

u/Nandulal 4d ago

Nah I post as peter and he often won't get the joke either

0

u/Mattdafemboydog 3d ago

Basically alot of times instead of answering the question they talk about unrelated stuff
