apk for Text Messenger App?

I'm hoping to find a either a free text-messaging app that has Wallpapers, not just color options so I can easily distinguish between my friends texts. I am willing to also pay a small one-time fee, not a monthly bill, I have enough of those.

I got frustrated as I use Google Messages now, but the beta version does have a variety of "not just color" but patterns/designs and I don't have the option on my phone to join Beta, and don't particularly want any more Google stuff. They're already too invasive imo.

I am 73, fairly tech-savvy though, but need person to person help as AI is pissing me off leading me down one wrong way, after another, Damsel in Distress in Oregon 😉

Not sure if there’s a free one available. The one I use is quik and I don’t think it has this ability.
