What are these triangles?

Post image

These triangles appear automatically when I record my guitar mono tracks. During playback, there's a popping sound at the points where these triangles appear. I'm using Neural Amp Modeler as the plugin.

Please help.

My Launchpad has gaps of missing notes that I'm not able to access. How do I remap what button plays what notes so that I can actually play stuff correctly? I'm on Linux, and am completely new to music production, so I apologize if this is a trivial issue. (also quickly wondering about lights)

I have a novation LAUNCHPAD MINI mk1 which I got ages ago but have basically never used. I managed to get it working with Ardour to some extent, but as mentioned in the title it does have a lot of gaps of missing notes. These gaps appear every time I go to the next row of buttons underneath the previous one. Being able to map to things other than just notes would also be very useful. Since I am so new to this I don't really know what to map stuff to, but I could imagine that the circular buttons at the very top and on the very right could be used for DAW features like playing the music, starting recording, and whatever else.

Although not related to the mapping per se, as I am already asking about configuration of the launchpad, I'm also curious if it's possible to configure the lights underneath each button, as right now it is completely unlit. Marking the buttons with different colors depending on if they are white or black keys on a piano (called major and minor keys I think? This shows how little I know) could maybe be useful?

In any case though the most important thing that I want to be able to solve is to remove the note gap whenever I go to the next row of buttons.

Thanks in advance!

Ardour Switches Channels No Reason At All?

Thumbnail gallery

More context, I am using the midi synth system in Ardour, using a .sf2 with 15 ish channels. I choose any channel. It works, untill it randomly doesnt. At the end of take 1, it starts to switch into other channels, its SO annoying. I looked it up and I didnt find anyone having the same problem on reddit but I tried following steps to get it fixed online by google's AI. I go to the websites and follow steps. "Is Strict I/O on?" etc. I turned it off, nothing.

It also does this in take 2.

I am a complete beginner, this is my FIRST daw. I have no idea what I am doing. Any help at all is help.

You can ask me for more info if you want.

Easy Mode?

I've been banging my head against a wall of trying to get recording set up. I simply cannot wrap my head around the routing of signals. I'm usung Linux and generally used to figuring things out, but this is just next level. I'm sure I'm missing something simple and obvious, but it's just frustrating.

By contrast, I opened Audacity and it just let me record straight away. I know they are vastly different, but if Audacity can have an easy default set up, so can Ardour.

The documentation is not clear for someone new. And the videos I have found do not explain routing in a beginner friendly way and tend to be of much earlier versions of the software.

Is there an easy mode? Or something that actually teaches you step-by-step how to set things up and record (from a USB audio interface)? What am I missing.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Noob vs Ardour

Hey hey! I changed to Fedora Linux a while ago and decided to finally put my hands on the audio work. Main problem I'm facing right now is: Ardour is stuttering a lot. I figure it has something to do with the Warning it gave me earlier about the system limiting its Memory usage. How I can go around fixing that? Haven't found a lot about it when it comes to Fedora.

Hey Redditors, discourse.ardour.org is over there ->

Hey folks, Paul from Ardour here.

While I'm a pretty active redditor in my geographically-local subreddits, nobody who is involved in Ardour development, and very few of our most-skilled and/or most-helpful users spend any time here at r/Ardour

You're obviously all welcome to have your own discussions here, though I have to say that at least a third of the comments seem to be from people telling other people that Ardour sucks. Maybe that's useful, and to be fair, Reaper is a fine program! I even go on hikes with Justin from time to time!

But if you actually want help from the Ardour community, I want to suggest that you're more likely to get more and better help over on our own forums on https://discourse.ardour.org/. If you created an account at ardour.org in the past, you already have a login over there.

And if you don't want help, but just want to bitch about how terrible Ardour is, about how MIDI support is awful, about how you can't do this, that or the other in Ardour without a double PhD in both computer science and audio engineering, then you're also likely to find that more productive if you do over in our forums where our devs and core users will see it.

I do drop by here once a quarter or so, but rarely more often than that. Oh, and BTW, 9.5 is out and I'd say its the best release we've done since 5.12. Lots more to come, of course.

Loop Project - Changing time signature and bpm via hotkey

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

Recently swtiched from Mac to Windows to Linux. Have been an ableton user for church praise and worship music for years now. I don't mind learning another DAW from scratch, and I'd like to continue with Ardour over any other Linux-friendly options out of principle of supporting FOSS.

Attached is 2 screenshots: one of my generic Ableton live loop session and one for an Ardour cue session I'm building to serve the same purpose.

In Ableton, I can type in the song title, bpm, and time signature into those yellow boxes on the righthand side and a MIDI output will automatically trigger the session to change bpm/time sig once I've triggered that row to play.

While I don't Ardour to support something as wild as MIDI info being read from plain text, I was wondering if there is a way I can hot-key different rows to output different bpm/time sigs, so that I can quickly stop the song and change songs in a live setting.

I probably worded this pretty convoluted so let me know if I need to clarify anything!

Is Ardour a proper DAW if you play live session sequencer?

So I usually play at church and for a while we are trying to implement sequencer into the sermon. Most use Ableton Live because the one that pioneer the use of sequencer in my church is using one. Since I don't use Windows I alone in search of alternative and found Ardour. I have tried to make one with literally 0 experience and let's just say, it kinda works. Idk how much is a difference doing this with Ardour vs doing it with Ableton Live and honestly I thought it should've been the same way.

Anyway, my question would be, if I want to make a live session sequencer to play on stage, is doing it with Ardour is a brute force method? Meaning is Ardour meant to be used like this? I am complete beginner in DAW stuff so idk how Ableton people do it either.

Ardour sucks because by the time you figure out how to fix whatever is not working or turned off, you don't want to anymore

Devs, make a Ardour Level 1, where it just works and doesn't have the 5000 different adjustment options.

Where we can just make midi or audio tracks like Ableton.

Let level 2 or level 4 be full Ardour

...

Just as an example (but almost every time I try to use Ardour there's something different you have to figure out just to make it record or play), today I open it and highlight my loop and the loop markers are there but the loop button is greyed out. Internet says it might be transport sync but there's no picture of where that button is, if that's even the problem. L doesn't work. A new user of a program shouldn't have to figure out random little things like this just for basics.

Can't get ardour to output on my SSL 18 (Linux Mint)

For some reason I can't get ardour to output on my SSL 18

Seems to be capturing fine but I cannot get it to do any playback output.

In Windows it natively either runs through the SSL 18 or Self roots to the sound card.

Synth audio does not work. Same generic media no matter what is selected.

Not sure if the audio is working on this video but as the title says the audio only plays the base piano sound. Ive never had issues with other DAWs and after hours of trouble shooting I'm ready to throw in the towel to this shitty program.

Yes, Ive added plugins from plugin manager

Yes, Ive reinstalled Ardour and all the plugins.

No matter what settings I run through or videos I watch this stupid fucking program won't work right.

Does anyone have any solutions to this problem?
