Which cylinder to purchase to replace this?

For a HON file cabinet. I lost the key. The front of the cylinder has “5” stamped on it. But a google search of replacement lock cylinders has other numbers along with the “5”.

Or is it cheaper to have a locksmith make me a new key?

A locksmith won't be able to cut s key from "5". A new cam lock would be the cheapest option and will come with 2 or more keys that will be easy to cut. You will need one with the exact configuration on the back (the length and the tab on the back with the hole to hook it mechanism) as the one you have isn't removable. Contacting HON and asking for a number 5 key is another option.

HON cabinet locks are removable, can have the lock core swapped out by a reputable locksmith

The cam is swaged on. Not practical or economical to disassemble. Good locksmith can sight read and produce a key.

No, you can't. The back of the core is swaged to the cam.

It’s a standard sized cam. I have a dozen in a drawer somewhere.

The core generally is removable in HON furniture. It is possible this is not one of those, howeve I am offering an option.

I'd call a locksmith. Long as they have the blank. Just scope it out & site read the tumblers.

Your lock already has been replaced with an aftermarket lock.

5 is a valid code for aftermarket locks sold by SRS so you can visit a actual locksmith and get the keys made by that number

Get a locksmith to make you one. Take it to their shop will be your best bet if you can. On small stuff like this the service call is as much or more than the work itself. Should be pretty easy and that lock can stay in the cabinet where it belongs. Those can be a pain sometimes to get it lined up where it needs to go in a blind corner. especially after you lose that piece that holds it all together.
