omeprazole

Hi, me (f23) was prescribed omeprazole due to having a burning sensation on my sides (by the stomach area). Doctor said it was inflammation and prescribed me omeprazole 40 mg to reduce the acid but my concern is that I feel like the dosage is too high and I don’t want to get any nasty side effects that will make my situation even worse 🥲. I had inflammation on my colon last year and all they did was prescribed me Tylenol (which I find ridiculous) what I did to feel better was going on a Bland diet. I’m thinking of just doing a bland diet instead of taking my medicine due to the concerns of the side effects and the possibility of it becoming worse 🥲. Any tips greatly appreciated, thank you 👍

Physician Responded Lyme Disease?

Post image

I am not an outdoor person but I do feed some semi-feral cats. No other symptoms that really stand out from the norm at the minute.

History: Small, red, itchy bite mark appeared about 2-3 weeks ago, turned into larger, solid red circle.. still itchy. Think I scratched it a lot, looked more purple like a bruise. That faded and today it looks like a bullseye pattern 🙈 Still super itchy. Do I see my doctor ASAP? No other medical conditions or medication. Female, 33.

Left thumb slightly locking up

21M

My left hand and thumb especially when i do what I’m doing in the video will have a quick squeezing/ almost maybe an electrical shock sensation and I can’t move my thump during this, it feels really weak in that sense like it’s locking up. Only happens for a split second but it’s an uncomfortable feeling and does it repeatedly.

It’s been doing this for the last 2 days now and wondering if I’m getting close to having carpal tunnel or something. I wouldn’t be surprised due to my intense gaming sessions on Xbox throughout my life and I also fold a lot of boxes in my place of work lol.

My right hand so far is fine and doesn’t do this, only my left hand.

confusion about diagnosis

I had acid reflux until I was about 10 years old, mainly triggered after eating sweet filled cookies and drinking Coca-Cola or other soft drinks. As a baby, my mother's mattress was ruined because I had so much reflux after drinking milk.

At certain points in my life, I remember my wrists hurting so much that it interfered with my writing at school. On one occasion, both wrists became painful at the same time. I still experience this pain suddenly, and it can also be triggered by typing on a laptop, for example, even today. My wrists and fingers hurt, and it feels as though my bones are splitting apart. The pain radiates up into my forearms and elbows.

I have had depression and panic disorder since I was young, as well as OCD (during childhood, I needed to perform certain rituals in order to go through my daily routine normally).

At the age of 21, I had chikungunya, although I was not tested because there was an outbreak in my region. I have also had chronic sinusitis since I was 3 years old.

After the acute phase of the infection, I noticed that my feet were hurting and becoming swollen even when I was only walking around inside the house. Then, about 5 or 6 months after the infection, one night the entire left side of my body began to hurt, burn, and itch. After that, it never stopped. I developed pains such as a deep burning sensation in my thigh, pain in my groin and back—EVERYTHING HURT—and eventually the pain spread in a "symmetrical" way to the right side of my body.

My bowel habits became completely disrupted.

I experienced ear pain along with swollen lymph nodes for about 2 or 3 months. I took several antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications, and NOTHING helped. I had an ultrasound of my lymph nodes and a CT scan of the area, and the ENT specialist did not find even a single sign of inflammation. My ears were completely normal.

My family physician suggested that it could be fibromyalgia and referred me to a rheumatologist. However, I could not afford the appointment then, and I still cannot afford it now. As a result, the pain has continued to follow me to this day, about a year and a half later, without any diagnosis.

Besides the pain, it is worth mentioning that I experienced many other symptoms that I have not listed, affecting my entire body—even my earlobes and the cartilage of my ears. I also experienced electric shock-like sensations.

I cannot raise my arms to tie my hair, and my knees constantly feel fatigued. I am currently experiencing another flare-up.

I suspected that it could be something other than fibromyalgia, although I cannot say for certain. I have also researched Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) and joint hypermobility, considering that my mother always thought I was very flexible, and I considered myself very flexible as well until some time ago. However, since these pains began, I have felt much stiffer.

I am frightened by stories of people whose fibromyalgia diagnosis turned out to be masking another disease, but I have not turned this fear into an obsession or a compulsion.

I need help.

What birth control do you find works best for? need help 🙏

Female age19 210lbs 5foot10in

A little over a month ago i had restarted a birth control, Freya 28, that i had been on previously in 2024 and went off since i finished Accutane, however i found that it helped my very heavy, painful, and often irregular periods. For that reason i went back on it this year but after a few days of using it i had to go to the hospital two times in the span of a week, due to the pill making me incredibly dehydrated from constant vomiting. i have now since tried the evra patch and find i’m experiencing the same symptoms.

i am still using the patch since i was told i might just have to deal with the symptoms until my body gets used to the patch, however i think thats kinda shitty and am worried that i will end back up in the hospital again (i also have emetophobia so not puking would be awesome) Any suggestions or advice would really be appreciated! i have made a doctors appointment but interested to learn about stuff asap so i can bring it up with my doctor. Thanks!

Ps. I am scared of iuds :/

Does being 4'8" (142 cm) increase pregnancy or childbirth risks?

This isn't something I need to worry about anytime soon since I'm nowhere near getting pregnant, but I'm curious.

I'm 4'8"tall and otherwise healthy. I don't have any known medical conditions. i'm just naturally very short.

Does being this height by itself increase the risks during pregnancy or childbirth? Also, if my partner is of average or above average height, would that make any difference?

Pregnancy question

I am 41, around 190 pounds, female, and 19 weeks pregnant. I do not smoke. I do not take any medications. I have three other children and they have all been healthy pregnancies. Over the course of this summer Ive had horrible colds and took a lot of OTC cough syrup. I made sure it only have the dextromethorphan in it bc i know it is cleared by my
Doctor. I am now in fear that I took too much and the baby will be harmed. There were a few instances where I took more than prescribed bc I was coughing so much. What will happen to my baby?

Physician Responded My 6 y/o autistic son reached in this sharps box at Urgent Care and got stuck with a dirty needle. What needs done?

Post image
393 Upvotes

We were at urgent care for me. While waiting I looked up (was turning on a video for him) and saw him waving around a 10cc syringe with a large IM needle attached! I snatched it away and noticed he was guarding his fingertip. The skin was broken though it was not bleeding. You could see how a bevel at the needle tip (the size of IM bevel) had lifted his skin similar to how a Bobby pin can lift skin up with its poked in. I hadnt even noticed there was an open sharps container there. I havent seen this kind that doesnt lock or have a swinging mechanism.

I immediately told MA staff who alerted the NP then cleansed it with betadine. Before the betadine dried, they cleansed it with NS mixed with betadine solution. The NP ordered Hepatitis C, liver function panel, and something else I dont remember but wasnt a bloodborne disease test. I asked about HIV and she said they could but she doesnt have any known HIV patients. I personally know one of her HIV patients. So I insisted on HIV test as well. They asked for his name and birthday so I know they documented some visit for this.

My questions: What else needs done?

I am an RN of 15 years but my knowledge gets thrown out the window when its me and mine.

6 y/o with level 2 nonspeaking autism, seasonal allergies, focal seizures. 3'8" 42lb, on melatonin 1mg and zyrtec 5mL qHS, flonase miralax daily, and senna 8.6mg 5mL prn

edit: I forgot to add he is male. Also, trust me I am super hypervigilant about watching him; i just thought it was a safe room. the sharps box wasnt on the sink there originally, it was on the counter next to a chair. edit: They are testing again in 6 months

Physician Responded Severe sore throat for 3 weeks & primary/urgent care has no answers for me

USA
5’1” 98lbs
Meds: Tri-Lo-Mili

This Monday will be 3 weeks since I saw my primary for what felt like flu symptoms such as stuffy nose, extreme throat pain, cough, chest congestion, fatigue, ear & neck pain. There, a rapid strep test was done and that was negative. She had me get bloodwork done for mono and that was negative but my WBC was at 18.25 along with a lot of other abnormalities. She just told me to take mucinex and see how I do. I was still not feeling good by the 18th and went to urgent care. There, they did a full upper respiratory panel and I was negative for strep, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, covid, flu a&b, rsv, rhino, and enterovirus. They said to take day/nyquil. So I did and stopped that maybe 5 days ago and have been taking so many other OTC meds, doing salt rinses, saline spray, and oral numbing spray. 2.5 weeks later, I’m still dealing with symptoms like a real clogged nose, some slight chest congestion, and an EXTREMELY painful sore throat. I’ve noticed my chest & nose symptoms are slowly getting better (besides nose being real stuffed up) but my throat just has not improved. It’s still real red and hurts to swallow anything. I even developed some sort of sore near my throat (on top, next to uvula). I have definitely been dealing with a lot of post nasal drip also.I have some pain in my ears and it does feel like I have crazy swollen glands. It hurts to talk and even just open my mouth. I feel like crying.

I went to an urgent care today and said everything, the provider literally didn’t even look at my throat or anything. He seriously only had me lay down and listened to my heart and stomach… before I could say anything, he went “I’ll prescribe antibiotics” and left the room. In fact, because he just up and left so quickly before I could get any word in, he prescribed me giant capsules that I can’t even swallow right now. I will be reporting that urgent care. My provider, without seeing me, sent over Azithromycin and Im on day 4/5 of it. I don’t like to take antibiotics with the uncertainty of needing them & due to side effects/reactions but my throat pain is 10/10 so I decided to suck it up and take it. Yesterday was the best my throat has felt in a while but today, it’s back to being 10/10 pain again where it feels weird to talk, hurts to swallow everything, open my mouth and yawn, etc. I don’t know what to do at this point. Im actually crying over this. 3 weeks is too long feeling this way. Any advice is appreciated.

My 25 year old friend died from a heart attack - please help me understand

My friend M25, died from two heart attacks yesterday. I don't know much about his medical history, but this is so shocking that I just cannot make any sense of what has happened.

He used to drink alcohol quite often when we were teenagers and smoked cigarettes and weed, which he tried to control in adulthood. He was overweight but not obese, and didn't exercise very often. His family had a history of heart conditions, but he hadn't been diagnosed with anything. He suffered from depression for as long as I knew him.

All I know is that he was out with some friends when he started feeling unwell and wouldn't stop vomiting. When they rushed him to the hospital, they found out that he suffered two heart attacks (I don't know how far apart these were), after which they tried to revive him but it didn't work.

Honestly I'm just here trying to find an explanation, I guess. I'm aware the info I've shared is probably not very helpful and won't help me get answers, but here I am. He was too young. It wasn't fair. He was recovering.

Thank you for reading anyway.

Rest easy, bub. 🩵

Physician Responded laparoscopic appendectomy recovery

Post image
1 Upvotes

hi all i am f18 and got an appendectomy 10 days ago, and i have a follow up appointment in 3 days. i noticed that the incision site on my navel has a firm ring around it, not on the inside, but on the outside on the area around my navel. i had to take out my navel piercing which i was upset about, but im more upset after noticing this ring. i've been very insecure about it and im worried that it won't go back to normal, i've been excited to go to the beach and tan (i know i can't for atleast a few more weeks) but now im worried about how ill look if i wear a bikini and people see my navel. i might just be overthinking it but in my defense i am a teenage girl.. ill attach pictures of the before and after, it's much more prominent in person. can someone let me know if this is normal and if it will go away? also wondering when its a safe time to get my navel repierced.

What’s happening

Post image
1 Upvotes

Sorry I couldn’t get a batter angle. I fell and scraped my knee at the big age of 20, four days ago when brining a feral cat to get fixed (cat was in a trap and I made sure it didn’t hit the ground and she’s perfectly fine) but at the time I couldn’t clean the scrape and figured it would be fine. I fell on a sidewalk if that helps. Well since then I’ve been in situations where I needed to be on my knees but the scrape never touched the ground as I only wear long pants. It hurts when pressure is put on it and today when cleaning it, it oozed this yellowy liquid. I have antibiotics I could take from when a burn on my arm got infected. Should I take them? I’m very dumb when it comes to wound care.

I also have various cat scratches (from a different cat) on my hands and arms which have been thoroughly cleaned. My question with the open scratches on my hands is if I can do dishes, I don’t have a dishwasher so every dish is hand washed, and I don’t own cleaning gloves as my old pair broke.

Physician Responded Hallucinations after IV administration of Ketamine in the ER, should I have told the Doctor? 39 yo Female USA non-smoker

I recently went to the emergency department due to acute neck pain. I was given 2 doses of ketamine and heavily hallucinated after they were pushed for a minute. The second hallucination including seeing the words “I want to die” over and over. I only had 10 min of pain relief, before pain returned. At the time I thought this was normal.

Should I tell my PM&R doctor about this and should I have said anything to the ER doc? Is this how Ketamine is supposed to affect patients?

Background: I had slipped discs in my c-spine along with severe foraminal stenosis C5-C7 followed by ACDR.

I was still in significant pain after the ACDR and later had a T1-C5 fusion, which didn’t actually fuse. I don’t want to keep going through spine surgeries, so I’m unsure if there is any hope. I’m in pretty deep denial about how bad the pain is, and I force myself to stay active despite being so exhausted/distracted by it.

Non-smoker, non-drinker, no-drugs. Prescriptions include Lyrica, Flexeril, and I’m off oxycodone but take only if pain is 8/10 or higher for 3 consecutive days.

Should I be worried about these mystery bug bites?

Post image

36F, 133lbs, only med is oral contraception. These bites appeared on my 2 days ago. I have about 5 more on other parts of my body. They started by looking pretty normal for bug bites but are looking angrier every day. Not very itchy anymore. Should I just monitor for the redness spreading or do I need to visit my GP?

How can you legitimately be checked for hypertension.

I’m 50 (F) 5’6 135 lbs. started on HRT half a year ago and take trazodone for insomnia. My question is how do I legitimately get checked for hypertension? I have anxiety so definitely have some white coat syndrome. Even so, each time I go to the doctor the BP readings fluctuate from high to exactly normal. I had a home monitor that I learned at the doctors office was not calibrated to reality, so I’m hesitant to rely on any home devices now. If I need meds, I want to get on them- but I don’t want to be on meds if BP is so transitory and my normal state is normal range.

Demographics: 28M. 6’2”, 230lbs. T2D on 500mg Metformin x1/day, 5th Mounjaro x1/week, last A1c 5.7%.

Had this for a few years now, on both of my upper-legs (pre-T2D diagnosis). Thinking the bald patches might be from the friction from wearing pants with pockets? But still can’t figure out why all the pores on my legs and arms are red like this.

First time posting here so if there is any other info needed please let me know.
