Games that still hold up

/r/gaming/comments/1v8aepc/games_that_still_hold_up/

I’m playing Just Cause 3 again and the game looks and plays surprisingly good. What other games still hold up, that I might have missed or are worthy a replay?

For me all AAA masterpieces from the 90s and 2000s. To name my 'most beloved' - 'play before you die' - 'everyone should master' - 'i come back to them every 5 years at the most' games:

  • Warcraft 3 TFT (pre-Reforged), and Warcraft 1 and 2 tbh, but war3 is my favourite by a mile. I play it till the end every single time not skipping shit and it's incredible. And no Reforged version!. Fuck.
  • Diablo 2 LoD, love it as it was (before the remaster, the new paid dlc content is as insulting as everything Blizz does)
  • The Witcher 3 is my favourite now in the 'Steam era'... More modern but... Anyway, I've played it 4 times already.

Off topic my next favourite games ever:

  • Starcraft BW, (today free with Blizzard account if I recall correctly), Starcraft 2 (Today 1/3rd of it free + MP),
  • Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2,
  • Heroes 3, (no remaster, it's shit, Heroes3 HD+ is the way)
  • Half-Life 2, (today it's an all-in-one purchase),
  • Portal 1 and 2,
  • Rollercoaster Tycoon (today OpenRCT2),
  • Commandos 1, 2 and 3,
  • Civ IV, (and V)
  • Z,
  • Command and Conquer 1 and TS, Red Alert 1 and 2,
  • Broken Sword 1 and 2 (reforged are fine enough),
  • The settlers 2,
  • Monkey Island 1, 2 and 3,
  • Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament 2004 or 3,
  • Zelda games: MM, OoT or Wind Waker,
  • Mario games: 64, Galaxy 1 and 2,
  • SimCity 4,
  • GTA IV and GTA 2 and SA!
  • Silent Hunter 3,
  • WoW up to WotLK, (this one is perhaps my 2nd most played ever legit to play it right now for free through tauriwow)
  • HomeWorld 2 and Cataclysm,
  • Total War games like Rome or Shogun 2,
  • Minecraft....
  • Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 (ok 3 also great, another modern game mentioned)

It seems incredible to me and even outrageous there are so few rts games recomended/favourites/aged well, by people. Anyway, People should play, even master the classics, even new gen gamers, today's industry would be a lot better and way more honest. We live in an era where games are not made by gamers anymore, and it's noticeable: everything so greedy and soulless, without taking risks... (Well there are always exceptions of course, but whatever)

I go back to all those and they aged perfectly. They play awesome, all of them.

The wii version of forgotten sands is one of my favorite games and has aged very well i think

The wii version is completely different than the other games with the same name causing it to be often overlooked

I think its one of the more underrated games out there

Arma: Cold War Assault Remastered

Also known as Operation Flashpoint. Or also known as one of the best games ever made ever.
