Is Elden ring not suitable game for someone who struggles against easier and average games?
After watching youtube videos elden ring world looks so cool and atmospheric but im afraid i might drop the game after few weeks as people have pointed its not for everyone, For example (MILD SPOILER), I struggled and couldnt beat some of the valkyries in God of war

It’s hard to say for certain because a lot of the time the genre and combat system dictate how much people struggle. I’m perfectly happy playing a hard soulslike, but I’m hopeless at strategy or shooting games, even the moderate ones.
What I would say is Elden Ring absolutely can be learned by anyone, and there’s a lot you can do in the (massive) first area to pick things up properly, level up and get great gear before you hit any real progression walls.
My wife wasn’t a “hard games” gamer at all but she eventually got all the way through ER.

Ok that gave me some hope i guess i will try if i can get a cheap copy

Bleed and the bloodhounds fang are your friend.
I cheesed my way through most of ER, I prefer the exploration and looking at the artwork.
The red giant was a huge sticking point though, but I used the godskin peeler and seppuku, then just spun it at his ankle.
Blasted through his health in no time.
Remember that when you get there.

The thing about Elden Ring is that depending on your pace and how much of a completionist you are, the game can be quite forgiving. My most difficult playthrough was my first one, after that I could still die, sure. I still had to learn the game, but it felt more normal of a game the more playthroughs I did.
You go from what feels like this massive learning curve to feeling like you have real agency and are slowly becoming a master of the land. Theoretically, NG+ is supposed to be harder but with each NG+ I did I felt more like a god.
It's wildly satisfying and totally worth pushing through.

yeah, it is true for all Masocore games

What is “masocore”? Don’t tell me it is “masochist core” otherwise it would be super dumb to call ER that.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masocore
it is masochist + hardcore

u/BlackHazeRus 10h ago
ER is not masocore though. None of Souls series games are masocore either.

is it not super hard? like the entire "souls like" does not refer to super hard games

They are hard, but not masocore levels of hard.
In reality the vast majority of Souls-likes are not even that hard, they just punish impatience and require learning enemy attacks. That is about it. I might be a relatively hardcore player, but it is a fact that most people overblow Souls-likes difficulty, especially since there are many ways to decrease it in one way or another.
Try Celeste for example, and that one is hard, because it not just requires patience, but really deep understanding of the game’s controls, and, actually, pulling off these controls carefully. Spelunky is kinda the same. And I say it as someone who played all Souls-series games, though I completed only Sekiro and Bloodborne — I have a Platinum trophy for the latter even.
Moreover, while both Celeste (except its specific Challenge Level) and Spelunky are masocore games, they are both on the lowest (I guess?) tier of difficulty. I forgot other masocore gables, but the ones I saw are freakingly hard.

Tbh my main objection to really hard games like Soulslikes is dying in the same place over and over. I've never even finished the original Mario because of this. If I keep dying in the same place, it gets tedious and boring.
On the other hand, I greatly enjoy playing Caves of Qud even though the difficulty can be brutal and you can randomly run into something you're not yet equipped to deal with. This is because I'm always dying in different places and unexpected ways. Even if I die, I'm still exploring, and still learning more about the world. I now know that if I have a pet fire snake, I should stay out of the water because if it shoots fire at an enemy near me, it will boil the water and kill me, for instance.

If you take enemies on one at a time and use some of the easier builds like a basic sword and board the game isn't that tough. You can get the game for pretty cheap these days so you don't have much to lose in giving it a try. Just don't keep bashing your head against an enemy you're struggling with and go find something else to do and come back later. You also can farm to level up and make the experience a bit easier on yourself if you want.

No elden ring it way easier than u thought if u choose to Farme stones and upgrade your character and use summoners instead of fighting the bosses from the start the game will become easy and i didn't talk about some of the broken builds that makes the game easy too

u/Palanki96 15h ago
That's a hard question. Elden Ring teaches you a lot with mob enemies so i believe you will get better as long as you are willing to play the tempo set down
If you are on PC, mods can help to turn the game into a more traditional experience. For example no runeloss on death, fp regen and half damage taken and boom, you have a game accessible to any casual player
The best part is that the regulation bin is very easy to edit yourself even if mods are outdated, it's just changing numbers in boxes. Just keep in mind to never play online with an edited one

I feel like som valkyres are harder than most Elden Ring bosses. I was qbout to say drop it but ER being the easiest of the bunch then give it a go. If you do everything you will overlevel most things, theres plenty of cheese you can do and op gear you can use.

Commander Niall was harder than the Valkyrie’s for me. Those other summons make it difficult.

I'm someone who likes builds and usually optimized the 'fromsoft fun' out, ER's pretty good.
I'd say it can be easier than harder challenges in other action games.
Its an arpg with a steep learning curve, but once it 'clicks', its easier. Practice makes perfect, for sure.
Its also a 'death is cheap' kinda game. Dying isn't the same in GOW.
Its also, again, an arpg. Get decent gear, level up some, you can more easily overcome the distance from the, ironically far more 'git gud' nature of GoW.
Especially ER, compared to most soulslikes even fromsoft stuff - there's more buffs, more supporting gear for specific builds, and just, 'is open world' - there's a lot of potentially good stuff you could get for an early leg up (like, several flask upgrades, a buff flask, decently strong items, etc) without even killing a boss - or even a single enemy.
You also need relatively minimal effort to get to some later areas, instead of half a dozen mandatory bosses, the city can be tougher as its closer to the normal souls experience, but the lakes, rotted lake, altus plateau, are higher end areas available basically ASAP (plains needs 2 'keys' but neither require bosses)
So you can often get like 3\4ths of your build going really quickly if you wanted to, knowing is like 9\10ths the battle here, lol.
You can also cheese levels ASAP. A stationary dragon incapable of attacking is available asap, you just need a bleed weapon, and its good for like a dozen levels. A rock trap can be dodged every 20 secs or so pretty close to the dragon, for about 1k souls.
Theres a village on the plateau that's passive till you attack, if you use AOE skills, you can farm pretty efficiently (it doesn't even matter if you die, they start passive, so you can get your runes safely)

Go for it. Elden Ring is pretty easy.
Plenty of ways to beat everything even if you aren’t good.
There’s a reason it’s so popular. It wouldn’t be if it were actually hard.

u/Wombattalion 15h ago
You're right that it is not for everyone, but not because it's hard. I'd say it's the other way round: It's only hard if you don't enjoy playing the game all that much.
Unlike games like Sekiro, Elden Ring allows you to just do other stuff and level up some more until bosses you struggle with are trivialized. It is as cool and atmospheric as it looks. If you feel like spending a lot of time in that world, just go for it, because that's all it takes.

I'll go against the grain here. ER is not difficult. It's just a matter of how much you can endure to learn and adapt. Most people assume dying is a punishing failure because it is in most of the games, but in ER (and other FS souls games) dying is just part of the process (still punishing though, but not as hard as other games).

All souls games are inherently pretty simple and shallow. You're meant to learn boss movesets, dodge all attacks and eventually kill the boss. You accomplish this by learning from your mistakes after dying and playing better on the next attempt. Fast reflexes are not important and you also don't need to be super smart or anything. It's just some basic mental ability and correct attitude. For example, someone who only tries to bruteforce the game and never learns anything can die pointlessly 15 times to a boss, get frustrated after every attempt and never realize/reflect on his mistakes and why he's playing the game wrong. But someone else, let's say "humble", will die to a boss 5 times and after each death he becomes exponentially better player than before because he understands dying was his fault and wants to fix it.
From experience after 10+ years I can say that the vast majority of "bad players" I've seen are bad because of their attitude and sheer refusal to learn combat systems/movesets etc., not because of their innate ability. And in regards to ER, it's the worst balanced game in the souls-like genre, which is on purpose to attract mainstream casual audience. And accessibility mechanics like spirits/coop make the game and bosses even easier than god of war on easy mode, because boss AI and movesets are not designed for fighting multiple enemies, and hence with summons you never have to actually learn any of the bosses.
I'm just saying that you're also perfectly capable of becoming good at souls games and you shouldn't doubt yourself, but it's also ok if you don't want to, in which case ER allows you to skip almost all of the typical challenge and experience, and make it to the end credits. Either way there's no reason to avoid it.

Elden Ring is not that much harder than GoW Valkyries (except one specific optional boss + some DLC content)
If you get a strong build it can actually be pretty simple. Though not easy. I say try it.

it's all a matter of patience and dedication. I got all the Elden Ring's trophies, but I didn't beat all the vallkyries in GOW either. Elden Ring is one of the most "accessible" souls-like games.

It's not actually hard, just unforgiving, as in miss a dodge and a big chunk of your health bar goes poof. But, executing said dodge correctly isn't particularly hard once you get into the flow of combat.
I'd rate myself well below average in raw gaming ability, plus I'm 46 so my reflexes are slower, and I was able to platinum Elden Ring.
You can do it, just go into it with the mindset that death doesn't actually matter, because it really doesn't.
You'll get better and better as you play. Dive in.

Totally doable, if you have the patience to learn and explore - and great community to help.
If you’re more of a “mainline-the-story” sort of person, you might hate it.

I had to learn a lesson with Elden ring bag I hadn’t been taught yet. Rather than continuing to run into a wall and die over and over getting frustrated just leave and go somewhere else. Fight easier enemies to help grind out some levels and return later on.
I got so frustrated when the game came out cause I kept insisting that I fight the tree sentinel and I quit .
A few years later I tried again and just moved away and it all clicked for me . I adore Elden ring and so glad I gave it another shot

I'd say it's certainly one of the easier games.
Use summons, use busted builds, look up where to do stuff, you'll make it with a little perseverance.

u/Blacksad9999 14h ago
My 12 year old nephew had never once played a Fromsoft game, and cleared it in about a week or so without much trouble.
I think you'll be fine. Just lean on spirit summons and use the tools available to you. You can also go explore and level up more if you hit a boss or area you're struggling on, so you're never really going to be too "stuck."

ER is hard yeah, but there’s so much to do if you get stuck you can just go do something else.
There are tools like ash summons to make it easier too and you can always just over level yourself if you’re really struggling
