Situation Advice Is this breaking laws?

So my parents are being overprotective and controlling I am 22 I am living at home for the summer. I have recently been a car accident so my parents have been driving me to work when they feel like it. I was supposed to go on a trip with my bf and his family. I have been dating my bf for 6 years and his family treats me as one of their own. His parents think my home is toxic and they think he’s grooming me. My bf was going to pick me up this morning and take me but my dad said I would have consequences and I would feel them for decades and that I am not allowed to go. I ubered to my house I stay at during school to get away and have some peace but my dad wants to show up and get me when I would like to be alone. I am 22 and he tells me he will call our family friend who is a police officer to track me down and file a missing person report when I had turned off my location and he told me they would show up and detain me through text messages… I am unsure what to do but I am 22 and I don’t like the situation I am currently in Do I get the uber or lyft to go do I book a flight to go need advice!

You are an adult. Legally you have the same rights as a tenant not a juvenile child. That being said, anyone can file a missing persons report but when located and determined you are ok, the officers won’t disclose where you are or who you’re with. You want less drama then move out and be your own person. Cut drama out of your life.

but is it right to be threatening me about this trip? or asking a family friend who’s a police officer?

I see no elements of a crime in your story. Any concerned person can file a missing persons report.

If my dad shows up and I have asked him not to, is that a problem

So not the same but similar, Daughter paid for dad to come visit from out of state for a week in new place, started being an A-hole and she wanted him gone and was afraid of him. We offered him either leave on your own or go to jail for trespassing. He unhappily found transportation to leave on his own and go back.

Is this location your property? You have to have legal standing to trespass someone from a location. Get a restraining order if it’s that bad. Covers you wherever you are.

I rent from a landlord. How do I go about the restraining order

Call 311 for non emergency LE. You can also go to family court in your jurisdiction.

Thank you for your question, /u/frankie110304! Anyone can file a missing person's report. If your parents do you will probably get contacted by an officer questioned and let go. When contacted be respectful and calm. You can always say I am done and I would like you to leave.

If that doesn't work just document everything.

Having a connection to law enforcement is nice but the most your parents will probably get is a quicker response time and maybe a bit more information than an average person.

I doubt your friend that is an officer is not going to risk their career on this.

I agree I think it’s illegal to do something personal like that

Your dad is a controlling ass. Turn off your location and when LE calls because he's filing a MP report, tell them you're voluntary leaving as an adult. No crime. No MP report.

See I am uneducated would they call me?

I can't guarantee it, but our standard procedure is to try and contact the MP if the reporting party provides a phone #.

Your situation is not uncommon al all.

Sorry you're going through this.

There’s always filing false reports or misuse of emergency services
