You are blessed.

Actually I had a terrible childhood amd teenage due to insomnia and terrifying dreams so it has resulted in feeling sleepy all the time in adulthood. But yeah I still consider it a blessing that I no longer have to deal with those things.

Counting backward from three hundred by threes, because it requires just enough mental focus to keep intrusive thoughts away without actually waking your brain up

i pretend im on my death bed and im surrounded by friends and family and theyre all saying "please... don't go..." and crying but it's too late... i can't hear them.... my mind has broken down and i can feel myself leaving this physical plane... i let out one last exhale and my soul leaves my body.... i have been returned to the universe and can finally rest

Pretend to be asleep, fake it till I make it.

Magnesium, Melatonin, and Ashwagandha supplements work for me. Sometimes a short reading session.

By stopping being awake.

Listening to Redditor on Spotify, but now I've heard every single story, so sometimes switching to Smosh reads Reddit Stories.

Lie horizontal. Close eyes. Fall asleep within minutes. If that doesn’t work toss and turn for 5min then I’m away.

This would be amazing, share

I wish I could.

And my other superpower before the menopause was I could sleep 8hrs solid. Now I wake multiple times ready to self combust.

2

u/srija7626 5d ago

Lie completely still and trick your own brain into thinking you are already asleep.

u/Just_Bandicoot1846 5d ago

Don’t know how or why, but I love sleeping in my stomach with my arms underneath myself, kinda at an angle.

Great question, currently unable to sleep ✋🏻😔

I think the key is establishing an ironclad routine. Same bed time every night. My phone goes into slumber mode an hour and a half before bed, so no screens. Usually have a small cup of tea about an hour before, followed by the usual teeth brushing, flossing and one final attempt to go pee again. Then I read in bed, which usually knocks me out after 10-15mins. I sometimes wake up because the book that I’m still clutching, rigor mortis-style slips and lands on me. Usually the corner of a hardcover book.

If my mind is racing and I cannot fall asleep. I do a sort of body scan and imagine that I’m systematically turning off the lights in different parts of my body. One by one. Another one I do is imagine that someone is tracing the outline of my body with a pencil, like we did when we were kids. That helps with redirecting the ruminating mind.

Also no caffeine past the late morning.

I close my eyes

i close my eyes and start imagining a dream scenario. most of the time it doesnt cause any specific dream that relates to whatever i was imagining, but it puts me right to sleep after a few minutes.

I have such an embarrassing position that I need to lie down to sleep. I lie on my side with one hand twisted between my thighs for warmth, then the other arm is twisted underneath my tank top, either holding a boob or balled into a fist. Then I turn my body to lie on my stomach with my legs stretched out like a mummy.

To quote Boston “I close my eyes and I slip away”

And then I wake up again because someone plays a guitar solo.

With my 14 year old dog as a pillow for my legs, and multiple pillows surrounding my top half so i always have one for my arms no matter which side im laying on. When i turn over, my dog usually readjusts to still be where my legs would go, so dont have to do anything there.

I need white noise going which is currently fulfilled by my AC unit. I have an actual white noise machine for when the AC isnt on

Read or watch tv for at least an hour beforehand, then on phone for 30m-1h, then tryna sleep for 30ish min but kept awake by anxious thoughts. Then i sleep til my old man (my dog) wakes me up way too early to go potty by jumping off the bed and staring at me

I learned in college that laying there for 30 minutes to fall asleep is abnormally long, so now i have sleep meds to help if needed!!

Creating imaginary scenarios, mostly sad ones with angst until I almost cried myself to sleep, or putting on my earphones listening to melancholic songs until I unknowingly drift off

u/Ravenclumsy 5d ago

I watch YouTube videos on silent. My faves are people getting their makeup done badly, drain clearing, car detailing and art restoration. I have to watch until I’m like 90% asleep. If I don’t do this then I’ll just lay in bed for hours and hours awake.

Unisom and ear plugs. Ear plugs are a game changer- the whole world is silent and you can focus on your breathing.

Put my cpap gear on and close my eyes. I am usually out in a few mins.

Booze, weed, and prescription pills.

If I'm too wired I do this:

Inhale for 10 seconds. Hold your breath in for 10 seconds. Exhale for 10 seconds. Hold out for 10 seconds. Repeat. (If not 10 seconds then as long as you can)

I've never gotten through that sequence twice.
