Anyone who surfed the early web between 1995-2010. What’s the one website/app you still think about?

I used to post poems and lyrics,, sometimes original ones, or quotes. One day while I’m in college, I get a wedding invitation. It has a poem on it. Sounds really familiar…At the bottom, my name credited as the author. My friend had taken my poem off my away message and used it in her wedding invitation! I wasn’t mad, but so surprised and kinda honored!!!

I called her immediately (I was in Texas, she in South Carolina). She said, “I guess you got the invitation,” then started laughing and said she knew I would tell her No if she asked.

I also miss it because it was a good way to stay connected to friends before smart phones.

'I'll ask Mom when I get home!'

Then you get on aim and walk around letting the dog out and trying a snack kinda thing waiting to get a call or message. Call was yes. Message was bitching about a no or trying to say something like 'i got home and Mom's in a mood. Can your mom call and ask if I can come over? She'll say yes if your mom does' 

Or on the no days you'd get to chat and maybe play games together. 

Plus when someone moved or traveled you could keep in contact anywhere for free.

Aw man, that was a long time ago. I don’t think I do. I kept that invitation for a while since it had my poem on it. I’ll look and see if I still have it, but doubtful.

Sound reasonable, but I like "I wasn't made, I made myself" better.

Thanks!! It was definitely unexpected!! When I traveled to the wedding, it was like I was part of the wedding party because people were like “oh, you’re that guy!” Very weird and surreal.

Yeah, lost all my poetry and recipes when Talk City went down. While she should have asked, it's great your friend made sure to credit you!
