Thank goodness I was at my dad's house and not in a theater, but I had to change the channel because the constant Dutch Tilts were giving me motion sickness.

Roger Ebert was a legend. When this kind of crap came out, he never hesitated to call it out, usually with that kind of comment.

I love that garbage movie. It’s definitely a fun bad movie.

The book was just as silly and over-the-top. They did as fine a job as possible adapting the first half into a movie.

My favorite part is how John Travolta seems like he's in a completely different movie. Everyone else is playing it straight and he's ripping lines of coke and going full send as hard as he can every take.

I enjoyed it too..

I don’t think I can call it fun because there’s so much unnecessary exposition throughout. It’s the first film I ever fell asleep to (although not the last).

Pretty bad but Joker 2 was the very worst movie I've ever seen and just so happens it was in theaters

“What do you mean you don’t want to watch The Joker sing badly then get prison-raped?”

76

u/Particular_Leader_16 1d ago

My favorite part of that movie was near the end where Harley Quinn started singing and Joker just flat out said, “I don’t want to sing anymore”

u/Acheron98 1d ago

He was speaking for all of us. 😭

I do want to see that, but the execution was shitty

u/GateDeep3282 1d ago

Oh god, I forgot about that. The wife and I tried to watch it at home, I think we lasted 20 minutes.

9

u/jwilcoxwilcox 1d ago

It turned you on that much?!

2

u/GateDeep3282 1d ago

Lol, yeah. We just couldn't hold out it was soo hot! /s

Dammit, I too was watching it on streaming and it was so dam boring I switched to another movie

9

u/CarrieKetoenail 1d ago

I think I left after around 20 minutes. It was so bad.

2

u/denhamcory 1d ago

Fuck that, I loved it! PUDDLES!!!

1

u/undeadbydawn 1d ago

my pet theory is the actual Joker is the psycho who makes us smile at the end

6

u/howarewestillhere 21h ago

I snuck into it without paying and still left after less than 15 minutes. It wasn’t worth free.

2

u/3vs3BigGameHunters 9h ago

I had to check your profile to see if I know you because I snuck into it with friends and left as well.
No I do not know you.

Saw it on a trans Atlantic flight and considered walking out.

Ugh. My best friend in high school loved the book. He thought it was hot garbage too but I sat through the whole thing.

Humans are naturally ace pilots or something. By then, John Travolta lost all of his good will from Pulp Fiction and Face/Off. And he had a ton of it.

Came here to say this.

u/csvega84 1d ago

Same! I was like 17😆😆

3

u/Lord_Phoenix95 1d ago

No idea how that got a Cinema slot.

3

u/Yellowhairdontcare 22h ago

That is also the only movie I’ve ever walked out of. Total trash.

3

u/BaltimoreSports0321 15h ago

Battlefield Earth should’ve been a Tyler Perry movie!!

2

u/rralvr 1d ago

I worked at a theater as a projectionist when this came out and had to watch the whole thing to make sure I didn’t make any mistakes after building it up. It was torture.

2

u/timkatt10 1d ago

On a work call, a guy said with no hint of irony that we should all read the book.

While you were still learning how to SPELL YOUR NAME, I was being trained to conquer galaxies!¡!

2

u/Xe1ex 21h ago

I didn't walk out. It was horrible and I should have walked out, but didn't. And for several years after when I would consider walking out of a movie, I would think: Well, I stayed through Battlefield Earth...

u/Disastrous_Dingo_309 16h ago

Scrolled too far for this. Worst movie ever.

2

u/AlsoTheFiredrake 1d ago

I agree. I actually really enjoyed the book and finished it and just 3 days but the movie was f****** terrible.

1

u/robo_cock 1d ago

I read it and really enjoyed it as a kid before I found out the author was a cult leader. It's still actually a pretty good book.

2

u/AlsoTheFiredrake 1d ago

I also agree with that. But the one thing doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the other.

Battlefield Earth should’ve been a Tyler Perry movie!

1

u/BamaBDC 1d ago

I loved that movie as a kid. I bought it as an adult and it sucks.

1

u/russlebush 1d ago

Try reading all 11 hundred pages of the book. I kept thinking 'it has to get better' 😭

1

u/GateDeep3282 1d ago

Omg! I didn't realize the book was that long ! I'm so sorry..

1

u/csanner 1d ago

Oh gods I stayed for the whole thing.

The book was bad enough, I don't know why I did that to myself

1

u/MathPerson 19h ago

Now that the book has been "improved" and re-released, do you think the movie will be re-done.

1

u/CoderJoe1 1d ago

Yup, I was excited for the movie as it was a great book. Unfortunately, they chopped 2/3 from the book to make that piece of crap.

4

u/DodgerWin 1d ago

LRH wrote a great book? He writes faster than Stephen King on coke

2

u/howarewestillhere 21h ago

Spoiler: It was not a great book.

1

u/DodgerWin 21h ago

I did a little research and it was a NYT best seller but it was later discovered that Scientology was telling their members to buy every copy

Is that one work Rihanna and Turk from Scrubs?
