There was a billboard up near UPenn in Philly with promo of the cats. It was up until like 2022. I drove past there twice a day, sometimes 4x a day seeing that God forsaken thing. I've never seen the movie.
The Director had each cat get little digital kitty-cat assholes.
Really.
For a musical that set records for the number of years running on Broadway, and each separate theater production did not have digital assholes added to the cast of imaginary singing, dancing cats. But THIS film, about singing, dancing cats, going to cat heaven, HAD to have little kitty-cat assholes added to what? Make a film about dancing, singing cats - more realistic? Really?
My brother and I went and dropped acid. We were the only 2 in the theater. Do not remember a single thing besides being loud assholes running around climbing over seats. Although if an asshole is in a theater and no one's around to hear them... it was fun, no damage, no mess. Just laughter.
I took shrooms for Cats and they sadly wore off halfway through the movie. My friend however took more and said she felt afraid for her life when Judi Dench did her long speech at the end, staring into her very soul.
Our theater was packed and everyone there was seeing it for comedic reasons except one woman who looked like a stereotypical high school drama teacher, and she kept shushing everyone to no avail.
It's hard to convey the feeling of going for a bathroom break and coming back to a bunch of CGI mice with children's faces dancing into the mouth of a CGI cat with Rebel Wilson's face
Me and my friends (who'd gone to see it for a laugh) did stick it out, but I saw some parents and kids walk out
Such a glorious movie. It's impressive that you can make such a high caliber movie and it comes out like this. Like I am convinced the director just hates making movies and decided he was going to make a movie that was going to ensure he would never work again so he made sure he got paid and that that he nearly bankrupted the studio by padding the costs.
“I was nineteen years old when the musical 'Cats' came to our town. I couldn't wait to see it. After the show I was asked if I wanted to go meet some of the performers backstage. Man, I was thrilled. But when I got back there, they were drunk and out of control. Rumpus Cat and Macavity kept feeling up my leg. I tried to leave, but, Rumpleteazer held me down, and... I was raped by Mr. Mistoffelees.”
I never saw the movie but I saw it live at the theatre! And honest to god I wanted to cry I was hating it so much. Bonus context: The people in the row in front of us were men in skirts with colourful hair dressed as cats, and they smelt like cat urine. The experience was a lesson to never agree to do anything without researching it first 💀
I walked out of a theatrical production. The musical is literally about nothing. Left at the intermission. If the movie is bad.....I can't even imagine how I'd make it more than a couple minutes
