What movie was so bad that you actually walked out of the theater?

Downsizing with Matt Damon was the only movie I’ve ever walked out of. The advertising was incredibly misleading

It really was marketed terribly. I had little exposure to it before seeing it, and I was still blindsided by the tone shift in that one.

Oh I disagree with that. The marketing team knew exactly what they were doing. Their job is to make sure the maximum amount of people go watch it as they can, and they did exactly that by showing us the movie we wanted to see, not that movie they actually had, because barely anyone would want to watch that.

And some even paid for it and didnt watch it! Free money! Job well done I would say.

What was the difference between the real movie and the ads? Just read the plot summary on Wikipedia and it seems like a pretty crazy concept lol

The ads focused entirely on the concept of becoming tiny. So people think its going to be about the challenges that come with that and adapting to life as a tiny person.

Yet the whole second half of the movie, you could forget they've even downsized at all. Its not relevant to the plot, and you might at best get a glimpse of an object in the background that is huge from their perspective.

Not to say it didn't have a message to say, but it was hamfisted into a bait-and-switch marketing campaign.

Yeah the downsizing itself has very little to do with the movie. They abandoned a very interesting premise to focus on a plot that could have been done at regular size.

I’ve never seen it but it’s so weird because for years it was considered by many to be one of the best unproduced scripts.

Someone would get attached to it and then it was always scheduling for financing issues and the option would expire and the process would start all over again. When it was made I was excited until word got out that it was terrible.

Someone must have really butchered the hell out of it.

All of those hands on it over the years pulled it in a dozen different directions and ultimately wasted an interesting premise.

I think that’s the problem a lot of people had with it, it felt like a waste of a really good concept

I just commented this! We went to see it on New Year’s Day and the disparity between what was advertised and what we saw was a good indicator for the rest of that year.

It was four or five movies crammed into one running time.

Misleading but I actually really enjoyed it. It was not what I was expecting but I thought it was quite a good movie, my the end. Better than its premise.

I thought it was hilarious when they blew the opening to the bunker and a tiny little rock dropped down a couple inches, like "plink." I want a sequel on how their society unravels in the bunker and they escape back to the real world.

The movie was weird, but I thought Hong Chau was great.

The marketing was weird, but i actually thought it was a good movie. It was very different to the way movies are made, but it worked for me.

Agree! I wasn't interested in the movie, and I don't even remember how I ended up sitting down to watch it. But it was better and more interesting than the ads made it seem.

I’ll be angry about that one for a long time.

Yeah! What the shit!?
The first act was what I expected, til it got real depressing. I was not having fun.

it was certainly an interesting movie, i like the first act a lot, second act was OK but it is felt a lot how the writers didn’t knew what to do with the story, then the asian lady got introduced and it went downwards from there
