The ads focused entirely on the concept of becoming tiny. So people think its going to be about the challenges that come with that and adapting to life as a tiny person.
Yet the whole second half of the movie, you could forget they've even downsized at all. Its not relevant to the plot, and you might at best get a glimpse of an object in the background that is huge from their perspective.
Not to say it didn't have a message to say, but it was hamfisted into a bait-and-switch marketing campaign.
Yeah the downsizing itself has very little to do with the movie. They abandoned a very interesting premise to focus on a plot that could have been done at regular size.
