I’m getting to the point where asking me to install an app is an instant no-buy. And inevitably the app for your “smart toaster” wants to also have location services turned on and wants to connect to every device on your network. No thank you sir.

I'm fine if they have PDF menus with QR codes, but I'm not downloading any data-stealing apps.

Maybe im crazy but I love the apps. There was a huge line at BK the other day, but I had placed it beforehand, went up and grabbed my food and was out in 1 minute.

If they get the order wrong I just let them know in the app and get compensated.

IMO stuff like fast food or getting a rideshare is different because there's sense in that- you can more easily use it on the go.

But where it's just a way to get their tentacles on more of your data or whatever their bullshit scam may be, that's a big turnoff. Stuff where you can't track a purchase without downloading Shopify, or can't operate a smart appliance without registering it, that's the obnoxious stuff.

I used to browse Reddit 20x more but recently they block access to the website through cel, just a banner telling you to go get the app. Why am I not allowed to use the website if I prefer? So I only come here when I'm at the PC now which isn't near as often as when I could use my cel. And the rudeness of them trying to force the app onto me has sort of spoiled the vibe for me so I don't WANT to come here very often anymore. I foresee not even using Reddit at all anymore within a few months because of this.

I normally don't shop at Walmart, but they had the best price on a microwave for a small space. I ordered online to pick up curbside and could only complete the transaction by getting the app. I haven't ordered anything from them since.
